We stopped for a drink, and we were approached with a fake tequila experience. Thirty minutes later, we were sold said tequila only to come home and be given different bottles than we purchased (not the good stuff). And one bottle we could not open once home. So disappointed in La Reserva Tequila. A JOKE! And we paid WAY more than the going price. We were taken!

Do not go here, vendor tried to keep my and my fiancee there because we refused to get a lift with him, made sure none of the drivers in the area took us and we had to beg an American couple to give us a ride back around the island. Wanted to take just my fiancee on her own before me. DO NOT RISK IT and stay well away

We visited Cozumel just under a year ago, we travelled to the east side (definitely recommended) and stopped at many of the beaches. At the time when we stopped at El Mirador we didn't know what the name of it is was. It's a very interesting and different site. It's amazing the things that nature can create. To see the waves crashing and water coming up through the holes in the formation. It has the appearace of a bridge. You definitely won't be swimming off this beach. Make sure you have good shoes while walking on the formations.

My wife and I stopped by this breathtaking beach with a tour group for a much needed drink. The view was fabulous, the refreshments were wonderful. We bought several souvenirs and they were a bit cheaper than in port. Our tour guide let us know that our money goes straight to these families here and not some corporation. What has stuck with my wife and I since returning from our week long trip was the girl we met in the restroom across the highway. She couldn't have been older than our young daughter and she kept the restrooms clean, hauled water across the road, and poured water into the toilets to flush them as there was no running water. She poured soap into our hands when we were finished and poured water over our hands to wash them. We left her the only cash we had on us, $4 and we've regretted not being able to leave more since. If you get a chance to stop by this lovely spot, please stop by and say hi to this lovely girl and, if you have it, leave her a few more dollars for us.

Biggest recommendation - if you are going to climb on the rock formations, wear good shoes! These holes are huge and can swallow your foot very easily. Great photo ops and the view is just breathtaking.

This was a quick stop on our way from San Gervasio to Punta Sur... We spent about a half hour here watching, listening to, and photographing the waves hitting the coral & limestone formations, and it was easily worth every one of those 30 minutes! We walked to the top of the formation where the Mexican flag proudly waves, but it is a bit treacherous to ascend. The limestone is littered with sharp points and holes that vary from very small to fairly large- it would be easy to slip and fall or twist an ankle. Use some caution if you proceed to the top.
It is a quiet location; we were 4 of maybe 16 people at El Mirador (not including vendors).
There is no entrance fee. Food and beverage are available for purchase from vendors. There are also some souvenir stands where shopkeepers encourage your visit, but were very polite. They left us alone when we said we weren't interested.
This could be a small, lovely beach on which to sunbathe, but as our taxi driver, Mario, told us, there is odoriferous seaweed that washes up on shore daily and the locals cannot keep it off the beaches. They clean it off, just to find more washes ashore the next morning. Mario stated that they have not idea where it originates (but think it may be Africa), cannot control it, and have oceanographers working on locating a solution to the problem.
This truly is a quick, beautiful stop for photo opportunites.

We have been to Cozumel several times and El Mirador is one of the reasons why. A drive down the east coast is a must when in Cozumel, and this is the most important stop to make. There's really just nothing like it. There are two coral bridges extending out into the ocean. You can walk on them, but don't wear good shoes because it's a little tricky (but well worth it). The waves are mesmerizing and there's nothing but miles and miles of ocean in front of you. It is simultaneously peaceful and exhilarating. We stop by every single trip we make and can easily spend an hour just lost in the view. It's made even more special by the fact that the east coast is always free of crowds. We have never been to El Mirador and found it crowded. If you go to Cozumel, take a drive down the east coast, either by taxi or rental car and, when you do, absolutely stop at El Mirador. There is plenty of parking and it's not hard to find. Any taxi driver in Cozumel should know where it is. If you take a rental car, just keep an eye on the coast between the turn to the horseback riding place to the north and the Bob Marley Bar to the south. The roadside at El Mirador has been developed and there are a few shops now and it's easier to see than it used to be.

A must see. So beautiful here. You really need to take a tour down the coast and see this place. You get a different view of cozumel from the touristy areas. The waves are so pretty crashing against the rocks. We paid a cab driver to take us here and around the city for $70, it took around 3-4 hrs for all we did. Cab drivers didn't really want to take us at first because it's "so far out". Honestly it's like a 10-20 min drive from the tourist area. I think he told me like 45 mins when I asked the driver to take me.

Just a lovely place to stop and see the ocean crashing in. Interestingly Cozumel is only 15% developed. The rest of the island is preserved in it's natural state. Nice to see.

There was no free WiFi here but I was still able to use data. Just check with your phone provider though. There was free WiFi at the Port though.

Did you just get into a cab at the port and head out on your own?
Written January 6, 2017
We set it up on line a few months before we went. We met outside the port at a designated spot. Then we went where we thought would be cool and took suggestions from our driver

How was your experience renting a car? We really want to, but I feel unsure about it. The main reason is because we want to return to El Mirador
Written February 23, 2016
We have been to Cozumel a couple of times and just love it. We are going back in March and are considering denying a car. I'm a little scared. What was your experience ?
