Amazing team, fully recommended if you are looking for kind and professionalism tour guides in Cozumel. We had a great experience and Gerson thanks a lot for not only the tour, cultural information about Cozumel, but also for the quality of the service. Next time in Cozumel we will hire your services again!

My family of five (including two children) had this tour with tour guide Luis and bus driver also named Luis. The entire time Luis made us feel like family. We were a bilingual group and Luis easily transitioned between Spanish and English (with a few words of Mayan for us to learn and try!) to make sure that everyone understood everything he discussed. The pickup and drop-off process (we came to visit on a cruise with Royal Caribbean) was smooth, and they even had a pre-installed car seat ready for our toddler! They provided ice-cold drinks for us in the car and the air conditioning in the clean van was superb against the relentless summer tropical heat.

Luis was extraordinarily charming, knowledgeable, and humorous as well. He even got our 9-year-old (who normally is not into history, ruins, or anything of that nature) engaged in the tour, which is a testament to his gregarious personality. Luis is well-connected to the local culture, being able to provide a personalized and intimate Cozumel Island experience for all of us. What I appreciated the most about Luis was the immense fund of knowledge he had about the ancient Mayan culture, and more importantly, how the Mayan culture continues to influence Mexico even up to this current day. We loved seeing how passionate he was about supporting the local culture and people. Moreover, he was always bringing up new and interesting information for us during our tour. Luis is also a certified tour guide for the San Gervasio archaeological site, and therefore you do not need to pay extra to have another tour guide at the archaeological site, as you would have with many of the other offered tours. Luis accompanied us the entire day and made us feel welcomed and part of his family.

Luis tailored our experience to our family and ended our day at a wonderful beach club, unspoiled by the mass throngs of tourists that often crowd the more popular (and more rocky) beach clubs. Luis also was unhesitant to advocate for our family, ensuring that we got VIP experiences and were well attended to and cared for at the ruins and the beach. He assisted at times with getting our stroller through rocky paths at San Gervasio and went out of his way to ensure our toddler had shade during the tour. I would not hesitate to book Luis again- his entertaining yet educational style really makes him stand out! In fact, we are thinking of attending another Leon Tours with Luis in the future.

Congratulations on reading this review- you have done the hard part of researching all of the tours, and now all you need to do is not hesitate and be at ease when booking this tour and be sure to ask for Luis to be your tour guide! I promise you that you will enjoy your personalized tour of this island paradise.

Tips: Be sure to bring bug spray since the mosquitoes there are relentless and plentiful. Be sure to call/contact ahead and confirm details of pickup the day before as well.

We took a private tour for our family of four--husband and I plus our 2 young-adult kids. Our driver was Jose Luis and Guide was Santiago. We had a fabulous time. Both were very gracious and accommodating which made for a very comfortable and relaxed day. Santiago's knowledge of the island, including it's history and ecology made for a very educational and fun adventure. We spent much of our day at an eco park at the southern point of the island. In addition to visiting the historic lighthouse and museum, we spent a lovely time at a protected beach where we swam, snorkled and had a tasty lunch. We also stopped to view the lagoon inhabited by numerous fish, waterbirds and Julio, the resident crocodile. ( The lagoon is actually home to several hundred crocs, but this was Julio's territory. ) Our last stop was a visit to a tequila museum where we sampled delicious organic blue agave tequila and learned about the tequila making process. (Yes, we bought tequila-- it was so much better than any commercial tequilas we've had at home.) At my request, Jose and Santiago made a speacial stop at the Miami bar on the east side of the island where we had the best mojitos we've ever tasted. I highly recommend the private tour and tour guide Santiago in particular.

I booked this trip for my wife’s birthday. We’ve been to Cozumel several times but never left the port area. I picked this tour because I thought it would be great to spend the day in a comfortable air conditioned Jeep leisurely exploring and learning about Cozumel with our own private guide. Unfortunately, the vehicle we got was an old, tiny 2 door jeep with uncomfortable seats and a thin canvas top that was tied down with canvas straps. My wife (5’4 130) and I (6’1” 195) had to contort our bodies to try to get in the back where the canvas top flapped against my head from the wind blowing as we drove and the sun beat down on our necks because the top didn’t cover the whole back. No radio, no a/c, no carpet, broken metal brackets…..worse than the Vietnam era jeeps I drove in the military 30 years ago. Our first stop was a store for them to buy drinks for the tour. The second was an ATM so our guide to get cash because he had to buy gas for the jeep because it was on empty. Third stop was the gas station. Fourth and fifth stops were to find ice for the cooler. That wasted about 45 minutes of our tour. None of the reviews I read before booking this tour mentioned any of these issues and the jeep shown in picture 1 on TripAdvisor is definitely NOT what we got. This set the tone for what could have been a great day. Our guide, JC, and driver Raoul, were very nice and I’m sure very knowledgeable. But between the flapping top and wind blowing through the jeep, they didn’t talk much unless we asked questions. I think they were also disappointed in the jeep they were given, especially as we drove past dozens of beautiful 4 door enclosed air conditioned jeeps from other tour groups. They said that this was the only jeep left at the rental agency they got it from. As for the tour, the only “customizing” we did was cut our trip short when I got tired of climbing through the side “window” because it was easier than contorting past the front seat and lifting my poor wife who has a torn ACL out of the back seat because she couldn’t contort enough. The tequila “museum” was short but interesting. Punta sur might have been more interesting if we weren’t so hot and sore from bouncing up and down on the unimproved very bumpy road in a jeep with no shocks. We went back to the ship after that…3 hours was enough…plus we were out of gas again😳.

Dear Richard, thank you for taking the time to share your experiences with us. It would have been great if you had talked to us directly. We always strive for customer satisfaction but we can only change things if we know that something is wrong. We saw your review and already got in contact with you. We are glad you accepted our apologies. As we explained to you, the jeep we had reserved for you had a technical problem. We tried to exchange the jeep and get another one for your excursion. As it was an extremely busy day in Cozumel with 7 cruise ships, there was no jeep left. Unfortunately, we had to use this older one that does not compare with the jeeps we usually provide. We are extremely sorry and we always try to do our best that technical problems do not occur, however we cannot completely avoid this. Due to the technical problems and the time it took our guide to get a working jeep, he was not properly prepared for the tour. He told us that he apologized and offered you some drinks to compensate for the circumstances. He also told us he did what he could to make the tour nice for you. If you had talked to him that you do not feel comfortable in the jeep we could have organized a different vehicle for your tour (even if not a jeep). Again, I would like to take the opportunity to apologize for your experiences. We hope you could enjoy your cruise and your vacation.

My wife and I booked the Leon jeep tour for something different than water activities. It was a great time exploring the island and would highly recommend it. J.C. and Raul were fantastic. We would recommend you ask to go to the Coz Coffee shop and get the peanut butter coffee.

I wish I could give this experience 10 stars!! Our guide JC was awesome & let us choose exactly what we wanted to do. He was super friendly & showed us the authentic, undeveloped side of Cozumel. The super cute beach bars were our favorite part of the experience, we enjoyed the super fresh fish tacos, delicious Mojitos & resident rescue dogs ( they were adorable & very friendly). We also visited the Mayan ruins, our driver Raul ever taught us a few words in Mayan. Then we headed to the tequila tasting & purchased a couple bottles of their family owned small batch tequila, it’s so much smooth, no lime needed. Our last stop was Coz - Coffee Roasting Company, where I had the best coffee of my life, the peanut butter coffee was out of this world amazing!! I highly recommend booking this tour with JC, he will show you a great time & be your personal paparazzi.

JC picked us up in a red Jeep promptly at 10 am outside the port but guests need to know that is about a 15 minute walk between the ship and the 7-11 meeting point. JC goal was to have us have a memorable day on the private Jeep tour in Cozumel. We went completely around the island while JC told us interesting facts as well as his personal
Story. He spoke excellent English and he seemed to feel comfortable being with us the whole day. We stopped to see the Mayan Ruins, Tequila Tour, riding along the windward side of the island was interesting since it is undeveloped. We particularly enjoyed the visit to the village where the first mixed residents dirt safety shelter from the civil war in 1845. Going through the quaint colorful important village that was founded on 5/3 and each year a great community celebration is held. There is a Mayan Temple and Church side by side. We had great traditional lunch on the windward side which was quite picturesque. We enjoyed seeing the large iguanas, crocodile and the raccoon like creature where the darted into the highway. After 5 hours we returned back to the front of the port. JC was a delight, kind, informative as well as a gentleman.

Very fun and professional tour. JC was our fabulous guide. He was just awesome. He told us a lot about the island without it feeling scripted; he’s just very kind and informative. We are so glad we did the tour as we got to see a side of the island we did not know. We loved the beachside lunch and drink spots, the private snorkeling at the end, the tequila tour and Mayan ruins. At the ruins it is well worth the 20 or so dollars to get the national park guide. He went into the whole history of the area - very good. Excellent and all very well organized and communicated. Perfect.
