A whole new world—believe the five star reviews.
Our cruise ship was in Cozumel for a disproportionately short amount of time, so I opted to skip cramming in scuba and try freediving instead. My nephew was able to discover freediving with me, because his mother doesn’t fear it like scuba. Cabana Beach, where Julie teaches, is a great place to relax for an afternoon (private shade cabana with chairs, showers, restrooms, and bar with food and drinks). For only $16 per person, my mother, who is 79, and my sister (neither dive), were able to come with us and enjoy the cabana all afternoon. Julie was welcoming, and forgiving that crowds of cruisers made us a little late.
First we learned some basic principles, mostly about breathing (you think you know how, but you’ll never see it the same again). Next we went into the shallows and practiced the pattern we would need to breathe and dive well (eventually;))
Finally, we went offshore and took turns breathing up and going down, with Julie as our safety, still learning as we went.
Any healthy person who can equalize can participate in this activity. Julie is so experienced and calming that even when the wind kicked up and the current shifted, my nephew and I stayed relaxed and had a beautiful time.
There is nothing like the freedom of the one breath that seems to last forever in the clear blue underwater world of Cozumel.
I cannot recommend this experience highly enough.

This was the highlight of my trip! I was a little anxious going into the diving experience because I had never done it before, and because we were spending a significant part of our time/resources on this one activity... but it ended up being the best part of our time in Mexico.
Julie and her husband were the best instructors we could have asked for. They broke down the learning experience into digestible chunks, and were super calming and encouraging (especially once we got out in the ocean). We were lucky enough with the weather to get out to the reef on the last day, and the experience was unbelievable. Julie is the best, and shared a ton of diving resources with us to help us continue our learning after the trip.
My friends and I came out of this experience with diving certifications, sick pics to share, and awesome memories to treasure. I would totally recommend Freedive Cozumel to anyone looking for an exciting new experience.

I cannot speak higher of my experience with Jules for my PADI Mermaid Class! Both her and Ronaldo were so accommodating and made the experience top notch. I have always dreamed of being a mermaid in the ocean and Jules made this dream a reality. She kept safety in mind, but most of all made it fun and beyond memorable. I recommend this experience to anyone wanting to become a mermaid for the day and frolic through the ocean playground of Cozumel- you will not be disappointed!!!

I did a freediver refresher and photo shoot with Julie and it was delightful. We met at Cabana beach (which I also recommend) and did a one-on-one meditation to make sure my breath-hold would allow for maximum underwater time for my shoot. She was a great sport and allowed my husband to join in for a couple of shots. All in all, a lovely day, at a lovely place with a lovely human.

I cannot recommenced Julie and Rolando enough. Honestly, gaining my PADI Freediving certification with Julie was hands down the best thing I’ve ever done. What am amazing teacher!
I was not a very confident swimmer and through Julie’s calming way about her I relaxed and I reached my goal.
What am amazing couple - genuine, down to earth and all round lovely!
I was a solo traveler and this was where my holiday started and from that moment... it was all about being in the water.
Through, Julie I’ve found my passion of the ocean and that one breath. Thank you so much!!!

Julie is an experienced Freediver, Mermaid, and Instructor-Of-All. She took care to teach safety as well as techniques with fun splashed in for good measure. Above all else, there was flexibility in the courses to allow for adaptive techniques and mastery. I feel confident in my new skills as a Freediver, Advanced Mermaid, and Mermaid Instructor.
Rolando is charismatic and knowledgeable of the island history and culture as well as its beautiful marine life. He is enthusiastic about teaching and being in the water experiencing the aquatic world.
Freedive Cozumel is well connected for additional activities on the island; if you want something, just ask and they know a guy!

I was recently certified for level 1 freedive and found Freedive Cozumel online to schedule a freedive tour of the reef while vacationing in Cozumel with my husband. I chose them because of their positive reviews and detailed website. They seemed like a great fit and I was so right! Julie and Ronaldo were amazing! They took the skills I already knew and expanded them. Julie also got the best footage of me exploring below! My husband got in the water to snorkel while I dove and also had a great time.
They were beyond helpful and clearly love what they do and where they live. I will definitely be reaching out to them when I am in Cozumel again.

We did 3 days of Scuba Diving in Cozumel with Rolando who was an awesome guide and a great person to talk to on the boat. He's extremely knowledgable about the dive sites of Cozumel and we will definitely be back to dive with him again.
We also spent a day with Julie on a Discover Freedive course and can't wait to come back and do the full freediving course - it was amazing. Our Daughter will also be back to become to become a mermaid when she's a little older.
All in all, we couldn't recommend enough!

Because of Julie I was able to concur my fear of the ocean and water. Julie was very patient and welcoming. I felt safe while she instructed me the basic skills for freediving and mermaid diving. I am forever grateful for this experience. Thank you Julie, you have transformed my life and you believed in me when I doubted my ability to learn how to swim! I 100% recommend Julie for your dive adventures!

Short Version:
An absolutely perfect experience with world class instructors meeting you with abundant expertise, experience, love, patience and understanding. The perfect place for our PADI freediver certification course.
Long Version:
I’m a mountain man in two senses of the word: 1) I grew up in the mountains far away from the ocean. Growing up I loved wide open spaces and I was terrified of deep waters. 2) Apparently I have the body density of a rock and I sink like one. In elementary school, I was the very last kid to learn to swim after a girl who had only one arm... No, that’s not a joke - that’s really how bad of a swimmer I was :) Naturally, I was anxious when my dolphin-like wife asked me to take a freediving course with her.
However, my fears gradually dissipated when I discovered that I was to be taken care of by two freediving instructors that far exceeded my expectations. Jewels (Julie) and Rolando are incredibly experienced and knowledgable freedivers and taught me all the skills and information I needed to stay safe in the water. The dry training and learning we did before we entered the open waters made me very well prepared for the real deal.
More importantly though, they could not have been more patient, understanding and loving. There was never any shred of judgment or frustration in their responses to my questions and concerns. On the contrary, they always encouraged me to go at my own pace and not push myself, and they did so with a loving and calming presence.
The day before we met I tried holding my breath in bed and just barely made it to 50 seconds after several tries. The next night I held my breath for 3 minutes.
Before we went to Cozumel I was feeling excited, but also very anxious. However, I left Cozumel feeling like a dolphin thanks to the wonderful, kind and loving Jewels and Rolando. I’ll always be grateful to them for showing me how to become one with the underwater world :)

Hola Kim! While he always hope for natural encounters with dolphins, we can't guarantee mother nature will oblige :) We do run trips to swim with whale sharks during season; best time to do so is full moon July or August 👍🏼
