We took a tour with Elcielocozumel.com and snorkeled El Cielo. It was AMAZING! The starfish are all laying about a foot from one another and glisten under the water when the light hits them. Awesome little piece of heaven on earth!

Star fish and yellow stingrays in calm crystal clear water. Two other reefs were included on our tour and had plenty of fish and coral to enjoy.

We went out to El Cielo a few days after a bad storm hit and apparently the starfish moved. There was one starfish to be found out of the 30 minute tour. We did see a stingray, moray eel and a conch. Just make sure...More

Literal hundreds of sea stars in the sea floor this is my snorkel dream, I loved this place. Be respectful with the wild life. When visit this place do not touch the sea stars. or other sea life.

An absolutely stunning place. Our fishing charter, Fishing with Pedro (find them on Facebook), brought us by for a break in fishing, and we played with the stingrays, some fish, and one obviously well fed barracuda. Everyone should make it a point to visit at...More

We had never been to El Cielo before the star fish are plentiful and the sandbar area the water is barely waist deep and crystal clear. Super soft sand perfect place to relax!!

Lovely water, warm and clear... we went on the Fury Caribbean Combo tour.. ONE starfish. Locals said there's been a decline and sea grass is on the rise, still a great spot.

No, it’s deep enough. People are not allowed to touch them, just observe.

‘Advanced’ snorkelling options (8 Replies)
Hi all I’m travelling to Cozumel for a couple of days (as part of a larger Mexico trip) with two girlfriends in February, and need some advice on how to experience the best snorkelling on offer. I’ve been trawling through the snorkelling tours listed on trip advisor but none of them seem right for us. We are from Australia, fairly well travelled and grew up around the water. I don’t want to be held back by inexperienced swimmers or by people who are too afraid. I’d like to see...More

El Cielo is accessible only by boat, so you will need to do a tour. Blue Angel and Tiger's Adventures get good reviews and you can read them. I've done both and they offer a different experience. I think the prices are in the $65-75 range? You can find both on FB. For snorkeling on your own, scroll down the list of Top Questions to the right for more information
