Educational, packed with activities and fun- the best experience on Cozumel
We loved this experience- they pack so many different activities into the tour and it’s very educational and fun too. The staff makes you feel welcome and appreciated and they really seem to enjoy sharing Mayan history and culture with you. We had a very good time while learning about the Maya and the dancing at the end was amazing to watch. Our tour guide was funny and personable- this was hands down one of our best experiences in our many trips to Cozumel.

We all loved it! Wheelchair, scooter, stroller accessible, too!
We highly recommend going here while in Cozumel. We rented a taxi/driver and spent a couple of hours in this immersive, educational, and entertaining experience. Bonus, it has paved pathways throughout so that mobility scooters, strollers, walkers, and wheelchairs can go through with greater ease than at any of the other sites that we saw while on the island. Our guide was knowledgeable and funny; he made it so entertaining!

    Pueblo de maíz Massa tour
Great tour, great tequila tasting and informative. If you are coming in May bring water and stay hydrated. It brings history back to life. But it is Cozumel, apart from civilization and you have to do your share of walking therefore, comfortable shoes is a must. And sandals are a good choice, short pants and long sleeve is recommended to protect you from the sun. Chocolate tasting. Tortillas old style it come accompanied with great sense of humor and humble people.

I can’t say enough about the people working here; they obviously enjoy what they are doing. Our family enjoyed the many activities: making tortillas, grinding cocoa beans, drawing water from a cenote, making chewing gum, watching the dancers, etc. The length was just right; short enough not to bore the little ones, but long enough to learn a lot. The taxi driver had trouble finding it. Tell your driver it is on the Transversal highway. The entrance does not look like much from the street. It is tucked away right next-door to a long low tequila tour building with a parking lot in front of it.

We decided to visit the Pueblo del Maiz while staying on the island of Cozumel and are so glad we did! Visiting Pueblo del Maiz was a perfect opportunity to learn about and experience the rich Mayan culture. We learned about their environment, language, significant foods, religious practices & offerings. We even had the opportunity to make and eat tamales and chocolate. It was a wonderful experience and will enrich our visits to the Mayan archeological sites. Our guide Kawil along with everyone at the site worked really hard to make our visit enjoyable. It’s apparent the people of Pueblo del Maiz are truly committed to preserving their culture while promoting knowledge and understanding to others.

The place was way too crowded with cruise people and there really was not much to look at. They made some tortilla samples which were actually good and you could see the artisan lady cared about the mayan process. this was the only highlight.

We came here for the special Dia de Los Muertos (Hanal Pixan) festivities and had a great time. Such incredible effort and attention to detail went into each costume and dance. Friendly people and great experience.

We paid to do this while on the island and we enjoyed the experience. You get to eat a few small things they prepare and get to learn a lot about the culture. There were plenty of picture opportunities on the tour and we got to watch a live performance. It was definitely a unique experience compared to just sitting at a beach like we usually do whenever we visit. The location is mostly shaded by trees so you do not have to worry about getting a lot of sun.

Pueblo del Maiz was a fun and educational experience, especially for us first-time visitors to the island. We took a one-hour tour of the Mayan village and learned about Mayan culture, food, and traditions. There are a lots of interesting props scattered throughout the village that you can learn about and maybe even try out (for example, our guide showed us how agave plants were used to make material for shoes and clothing). As part of the tour, you get to make a traditional tamale, taste a cacao bean, and watch a ceremony for the Mayan goddess Ixchel. Overall, this was a great excursion and would be good for families and anyone who wants to learn a bit more about the island and its heritage.
