Why does trip advisor need reviews for different parts of the same complex? Anyway, the observatory is cool, but would be more interesting if you could see it at night. Nice to stumble upon.

We enjoyed having a guided tour of the Observatory and learning about the astronomical and mathematical skills of the ancient Indians there. Also learned how the observatory was important to the Mayan religion and their calendar.

This is part of the experience when you see Xichen - just a total wonder - this is the Observatory where the Mayans studied everything that we've come to learn and know today.

This is all part of the Chichen Itza archeologic site. There ar a lot of stories about this place, but there is nothing to verify it with as all the Mayan codexes have been destroyed. Would hae been great to be able to study them...More

The guide spent a lot of detailed time at this site. It was one of his favourites, the amount of research he put into it was second to none.

We did a guided tour around Chichen Itza and it was amazing, we learnt so much that i feel we possibly wouldnt have learnt walking around on our own. The buildings are so well maintained. So glad we got to come.

Visited the Observatory whilst in Chicen Itza, very interesting to see that an Observatory with 8 Windows could already been built such long time ago and scientists were studying planets and stars.

A lot of stories are told about this complex and how people research the sky and its movments, up to you what is to believe. Anyway the observatory is very nice to look at.

What's incredible about this structure is the associated understanding that the ancient people were so brilliant and had such a good knowledge of the stars etc. Not to give a history lesson here, but it's worth looking into before hand (or with a guide) so...More

We walked a long way in the heat to see this place and it was worth every hot step.No doubt it was an observatory and was designed and built by local geniuises. To bad it has so decayed.

Yes. Only a short walk from the pyramid. It's the oldest part of the site I think.
