We had a rental car so we got there early before the crowds. This place is tremendous and worth the effort to get to. Lots of vendors offering guide services for $1000 pesos but we did fine without one by reading a bit ahead of time, looking at the info posted, and eavesdropping one nearby tour guides on occasion. Tons of sellers offering everything from carved onyx to jaguar calls - haggle if you want to buy! We finished by noon and hit a nearby cenote for a bit which also less busy because the tour group crowds had not yet arrived.

Chichen Itza is quite well preserved and deserves the UNESCO designation it now has. Be aware that even though we were told it's illegal to have the merchants selling within the site they're still there by the droves. Not too much Mayan original stuff if you ask me but there is a ton of options to buy if your interested.

My family took this tour and our guide was Daniel. I still cannot believe I saw ruins that were built in 300 AD! It was a 2 1/2 hour ride to the ruins. Our van had a cooler full of soda/water and the lunch was a ham and cheese sub (with mustard/mayonnaise packets), chips, apple, snack bar and small bottle of water. We used the tablets on the van while Daniel explained the history of these ruins. The dirt walkway to the ruins (and that surrounds the ruins) are full of tables with locals selling souvenirs. We learned that most of the souvenirs are made in China. Plenty of shade and you may bring an umbrella to shade yourself. It was 87 the day we toured. Our guide explained that what we have been taught and/or see on the History Channel is not always the truth. He is part Mayan. Of course you may NOT touch anything, but I was in awe to see sacrificial 'tables' and carvings and architecture still standing. This day was so worth the travel time and money that if we ever get the chance we want to take another tour.

We booked the "Chichen Itza tour with Hubiku Cenote, Valladolid and Lunch". MISTAKE!
This was a terrible tour. 3+hrs on a bus with many broken seats stuck in recline position. Arrived almost 1130am. Expected lunch close to lunch time. Left Chichen Itza 145pm then more than an hour drive to lunch site. We only had a total of 2 hrs there, to eat, visit/swim the cenote, and visit the tequila "museum". But, first we had to suffer through a 20 min sales pitch for the tourist trap gift shop. Lunch buffet was terrible. American food (chicken, spaghetti, etc). And the quality was similar to an elementary school lunch. We were hoping for an authentic Mexican meal. Paid $3/adult extra for unlimited drinks. Only allowed to get one 6 Oz Pina colada or 6 Oz lime margarita (not frozen). And, we were only allowed to get 2 of these weak drinks bc the attendant disappeared. Skip the bathroom here... Disgusting. We stopped in Valladolid at a "jewelry store". I'm certain the tour guide gets a kickback for anything people on the bus buy. Tour guide ("Navarro") just kept randomly singing - not in any way connected to what he was telling us. He'd start singing after periods of silence; when half the bus was asleep. Very annoying to be awakened to a wanna be singer crooning. He seems to be knowledgeable but lacks the ability to read his audience. Would have been nice if he'd spent less time trying to sell us souvenirs and more time talking about things we were passing on the trip.

Supposed to be picked up at 7am but bus showed up at around 7:30, took us around to pick up 2 or 3 other passengers . Then they came back and parked close to our hotel to be transferred into another bus. That bus showed up at 8:15 and we finally started at 8:30. They could have easily picked us up at 8:15an. Seats on the bus were narrowly spaced, very uncomfortable for a 12h trip.
At Maya town, operated by Baktun, for over 45 minutes they tried to sell us black stones. Buffet lunch was pathetic and greasy. Tour guide pushed to sell us mosquito repellent. I bought one bottle for $10, found no mosquito throughout our trip. A big con artist.
Tour to various places was okay. We arrived back at the hotel at 9 pm. Felt stress and pain in my back and legs for 2 days. Totally mismanaged by the guide in their attempt to sell black stones and other things. Wasted lot of our time.
Never again.

What an incredible experience. Chichen Itza was breathtaking. The Cenote swim perfect to refresh afterwards. Food was good - remember it is a tour for loads of people but it was good.

However, the best thing was the service. Tomas, Carlos and Luis (unsure of spelling of his name) where fantastic. My wife and youngest Diaghilev got heat exhaustion during the trip and had to take it easy. Tomas went out of his way to help them.

Advice is to take the Plus package as it gives you refreshment throughout.

And please tip generously. We are lucky to be able to afford the trip and the local economy and people depend on us for their living.

We really enjoyed our tour that we booked through Thomas More. Our tour guide Gaby was really informative and fun. We were able to see and learn some really amazing history. The bus ride was made more fun through added perks. Be prepared for a long day. Lunch and drinks are provided. Plus a chance to experience some natural history as well. It was very warm so make sure to pack sunscreen and stay covered.

Amazing experience! This was my husband’s activity he chose to do while we were in Cancún, and I think I enjoyed myself more than him! Such a rich history and our tour guide Carlos is the reason my experience was so spectacular! With 24 years of experience and his own personal stories of his research of the ruins was amazing. We also paid for the VIP sitting in the front of the bus so I got to chew Carlos’s ear for all my thought provoking questions for hours. 🤣 the buffet lunch stop, the shopping the connotes were all added bonus’s. I bought allot of souvenirs there. Yes, it is a long day, but take the time to do it.

Scam, stay away. The tour guide Mr. Navarro only sells and sells and keeps selling. First, you will stop in the cenote, there the Mayas sell you tequila stones and more and more things. Then Chichen itzá, and to come back we stopped in Valladolid on a jewelry, my husband got me a ring with a stone that changes the color, a zultanita they call it, it’s not a zultanita. Please don’t choose this tour. Be aware, you will be scammed!

We had the Chichen Itza tour and they were amazing. They were the best for info and flow and showing us all the wonder this place had to offer. We had Adrian, David and Victor and bus driver was Pedro. They were the best hands down with info and flow and giving us the best experience. We would use them again. Its worth every penny.
