My husband and I chose coconut divers, not out of accessibility as it was, literally, right next door to Sunset Marina Resort & Yacht Club we were staying at, but we chose it because of the awesome reviews. We booked two trips with them, Whaleshark and diving at the reef. Crew for both were very nice and easy to talk to. For our whaleshark trip, al I can say is it was amazing! There were several other boats located with the whalesharks feeding and were very respectful. Their rule of thumb, one shark per boat. So the boat would locate a shark that would be passing by the boat, an instructor/leader/photographer (all one person!) would key us to jump in and swim your little heart out to keep up with this magnificent animal. You cannot dive with them in Mexico, snorkel only, which is fine; we didn't need scuba to enjoy these amazing fish. The leader would get pictures of you in front of the shark which ended up being some awesome pictures! You were not allowed to touch the sharks, which proved to be difficult as the one my husband and I were following turned course and ended up coming up right underneath me. I had to curl my legs up so tight as to not touch the tail. You had two swims per person and at the end if there was more time you could go for a third time. Once we disembarked from there we all went to a nearby beach, anchored and snorkeled the shallow warm waters and had lunch. The ceviche is a delight! So fresh and delicious. Had an amazing time with them!
For our next trip, the reef diving. It was a small group, myself, my husband, another gentleman, guide, and two deckhands. I like the smaller personal trips. The reef we dove was so full of life. Huge schools of fish was a sight to see. The guide pointed out a stone fish, and spotted a school of Barracuda about 30 feet above us. He motioned for us to stay put while he went forward and started to wave his arms wildly to catch the attention of the fish. And sure enough a couple came straight down to him to check him out. Didn't care about him and went back up to the school. That was awesome!! As we were ascending we needed to do a safety stop to allow the nitrogen in our blood to escape slowly and naturally, we were in a thermal cline and boy was it cold. We were slotted to do two dives, but that did me in. The lone gentleman and guide went down for their second dive and my husband and I stayed up on the boat so I could warm up. The guide was a little concerned that we would leave a bad review as a group sometime before us got sea sick and were upset the company didn't give them a refund. I assured him we would not do that. I was just cold, no worries. It was our money and I chose not to do the second dive, and it was purely my decision. Shame the couple before us tried to get their money back because they got sick...
All in all, we highly recommend Coconut Divers, very professional and friendly. If we are ever back in Cancun, we will definitely chose them again!

I did two days of diving with coconut divers. The first day we went out to a wreck and a reef. Ulises and Ricardo were great. The wreck was surrounded by horse eyed jacks with barracudas in the middle of them. The reef was one of my favorite dives a very relaxing drift with so many fish and coral swim through.

The second day was the cenote diving. Leif came down to Cancun from playa del Carmen. We went to chac mool cenote and to say it was amazing does not even come close to describing the dive. Leif was an awesome dive guide he was so thorough in pointing out the coral fossils and making sure I saw all of the perfect vantage sights. There are so many things to look at in the cenote it is very easy to miss things but Leif made that dive for me it was truly an experience I will never forget and will definitely dive with Leif and Ulises again.

Everyone at Coconut divers were very friendly and easy to deal with, I am a cold dark water diver in the Pacific northwest so this was a very fun change of pace. I highly recommend Coconut divers they are the exact opposite of the big "cattle boats" were they take as many people as possible. Coconut divers are very good divers very knowledgeable and care about the sport and their customers, not to mention the lunch we went to after the cenote was the best meal I had while in Mexico.

We booked two days worth of dives with Coconut Divers and had a fantastic experience. From organizing the dives a few weeks before our vacation to the experience on both days, the staff was terrific. My son was already certified and did a refresher course the first morning, and my daughter was a referral who earned her certification the trip. They both had terrific experiences. Additionally, there were four other people in our party that snorkeled one day and were treated to a wonderful time.

I highly recommend Coconut Divers if you plan on diving in Cancun!!!

I'm an experienced diver who came to Cancun knowing that I wanted to find a diving package that included the Cenotes, Cozumel, and a couple of local dives. I messaged several dive shops but none worked out - either no availability, or prices that I knew were too high after shopping around. Coconut divers not only had the best price I could find, but they were also willing to take me even though I was the only diver! They are extremely professional and will ensure that you have an awesome diving experience

Fabian, Karen and Leif made this an awesome diving experience. I am an amateur diver who actually certified with this group here a few years ago. They are on-site at our resort Hacienda Tres Rios and take divers right out from the resort-so convenient. The group is friendly but very professional, and have all the necessary equipment on hand if needed.
This trip I did two reef dives with Fabian and saw some amazing fish including a lion fish, queen angelfish, king crab and an arrowhead crab, and some huge moray eels, just to name a few.
I really can’t recommend this group of divers highly enough-They obviously love what they do!

Another great day with Leif and staff at Coconut Divers!

Our kids are up-and-coming divers, but still too young to complete a full open water dive program. So we elected for a snorkeling trip to a reef nearby Hacienda Tres Rios.

It was the best snorkeling trip we have been on! We have snorkelled in Cancun, Cozumel and Hawaii, and this trip was the best of them all! More fish than we have seen on our other trips (diving and snorkeling) combined!

Thanks again to Leif, Pato and Coconut Divers!

I dived with Coconut Divers in Cancun for 4 days as I was staying in the resort right next door (Sunset Marina). I enjoyed my 8 dives with them, 4 of which were practically private dives as I was the only customer. This is not because they lack customers (far from it) but – I believe – because they went out of their way to ensure that I had a great time, as an experienced diver. I did morning dives; the afternoon dives were mainly for newbies and less experienced divers. The dive centre itself is small and a little lacking in facilities that I am used to, eg. rinse tanks and showers, but as most customers use the rental gear (no discount for own gear), they didn’t need to lift a finger – the staff did everything! My dive guides Ulises and Montezuma were the best – experts at what they do and making it fun for the customer.

I also dived with Coconut Divers in Playa Del Carmen, at their base at the Hacienda Tres Rios Resort. Here I had a mixed experience. I did a day of sea diving followed by a day diving a cenote (Chak Mool). Unfortunately, rough sea conditions meant no diving (in the sea) for the next 3 days and the day after that (Saturday), they were closed. I was therefore unable to dive for most of my stay at Playa Del Carmen, despite specifically going there for the diving. Although it is no one’s fault that the weather prevented me from diving in the sea for 3 days, I found that I had no other options with Coconut Divers, which was very disappointing. I considered doing another day of cenote diving (which would not be affected by the weather) but unfortunately it seems Coconut Divers only offer cenote dives on certain days and the week I was there, they only went to the same cenote, Chak Mool. Sea conditions cleared on Saturday but as Coconut Divers do not operate on a Saturday, I was unable to dive. Note – Hacienda Tres Rios is very remote and other dive operators in Playa Del Carmen will not pick up from there. I am writing all this in my review as I hope it may assist someone else in their choice of dive operators. Had I known all this beforehand, I would not have chosen to stay at Hacienda Tres Rios and/or dive with Coconut Divers. Notwithstanding that, I must say that the 2 cenote dives I did with Leif were pretty amazing. I have dived the cenotes in the Riviera Maya (including Chak Mool) on a number of previous trips to Mexico but have never had such a detailed and informative briefing as I got from Leif. He took us off the beaten track (so to say) and showed us some awesome sights. After the dives, he took us for lunch at an authentic local taco shop – what a treat!

Always an awesome diving experience. Leif and his crew are amazing Dive Masters. They are incredibly patient, knowledgeable, and really take the time to make you comfortable. The dives are cool and they know the conditions so they customize the dive to the level of experience of the divers. I've been diving there for years and wouldn't go anywhere else. Highly recommend the snorkeling as well. When you check in at Tres Rios, head right over to Leif's hut.
If you're up for an interesting dive, ask about the Cenote dive. Really cool.

Our captain was perfect at finding the best places to go and our divemaster was excellent. The business is reputable, well stocked with equipment, and pleasant to work with. It was our first shipwreck dive, and we spent plenty of time penetrating the ship's interior. Great experience followed by a colorful reef dive. Recommend!

We went to Coconut Divers to do our open water divers (for the PADI open water certificate) and we also had our friends come with us for discovery dives. Our instructor was Gonzalo and our captain was Miguel.

First, if the website is still broken--email/call/WhatsApp them, because Alex (the shop owner) is totally responsive. They said they're fixing the website, so hopefully that won't be an issue soon. They're also on PADI website, so you know they're real.

We found the shop friendly, flexible, and willing to go the extra mile to make sure we had a great experience. Gonzalo is obviously very technically skilled, and it was wonderful him swim just as comfortably as the fish in the ocean.

Gonzalo made sure that we actually demonstrated the skills we needed to to get the certificate, as that's very important for safety, and I had to practice a few things more than once, which he took the time to do.

Coconut Divers is a smaller shop, but this is actually a good thing, especially if you're going with a group. We had 5 people the first day, which meant we were on our own "private" boat and could get the experience tailored to our group.

MUSA was fun, but actually, we liked the reefs a lot more. We're hoping to do another dive with Coconut Divers later this trip (as actually certified divers).
