We really enjoyed our private tour to Chichen Itza and Ek Balam with a swim in a cenote. Nephi did an excellent job with the history of the area and the people. Being a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, it was nice to have his perspective of how the Nephite and Lamanite people played into the ruins we visited. The personal tour was so nice and we loved the delicious, authentic lunch we stopped and had in one of the small towns along the way. It was interesting to sit and watch the Mayan woman hand make and cook tortillas over the fire. It is a real skill because the tortillas she let us make looked nothing like hers.
The cenote Nephi took us to was really neat and we had the whole place to ourselves which was such a treat.
We felt like we were able to take in a few major sights, learn some history and also see a bit of what real life looks like for the Mexican people. We would definitely do another tour through Helaman Tours and would recommend them to anyone.

We went on two private tours (highly recommend a private tour). The first one was a tour to Ek Balam with Mosiah and the second was a tour of Chichen Itza with Nefi (Nephi). Both days included a swim in a cenote. The tour of Ek Balam was awesome. Mosiah explained so many things that helped us understand previous and current culture. After the tour, he took us to a cenote that was underground in the middle of a town. If you are a good climber, you can scale the walls and jump into the water. The family had a blast.
The second tour of Chichen Itza was cool, but because you cannot climb the stairs, the site itself felt like a museum. Again, Nefi did a great job explaining things and helping us understand the architecture. My husband, joking, asked if we could go to a cenote with features we thought impossible (open cenote, with fish, something with walls we can jump off of, and no people). Um...he TOTALLLY delivered! It was so cool!
We highly, highly recommend Helaman Tours!

We booked Chichen Itza, Tulum, and Cenote. Helaman is amazing. His knowledge of Mayan belief, culture, history, and scriptures is amazing. He explained things so simply to understand. Spent time explaining the carvings and significance of the building to the sun, etc. Great lunch, cenote was incredible, he took care of all tickets (did not have to wait in any lines), explained things while we were traveling. He is so nice. Every Christian should book with Helaman. Amazing experience.

Our day trip was slightly disappointing. We tried to book a private tour for our sons birthday who was turning 11 to have it be a special day for him weeks ahead of time. Two other groups were added to our tour group, one being added the morning of the tour. The price did not drop with additional group. We felt extremely rushed through Tulum not even given chances to take photos with what could have been interesting to children (ie. The tourist attractions near the gift shop). The whole trip felt very rushed. We went during busy season, but we booked our private tour weeks in advance. When my son asked relevant questions he was completely brushed off. Helaman certainly knows his stuff, but I would consider using another guide in the future in hopes they would be more child friendly. The sites themselves were absolutely worth seeing!!! Having an LDS perspective on these ancient sites was truly amazing. Visiting the sites is a long day leaving the hotel at 7:30 am and returning back about 7:30 pm. (Our trip was Tulum, swimming in a cenote, buffet lunch and then Chichen Itza). I would almost recommend skipping a part so you can go slower and enjoy what you do see. Just a thought. I would absolutely not recommend this tour for anyone with children under the age of 7 unless it’s a private tour. Problem is you can’t be sure!!

We had a fabulous day trip to Chichen Itza, Ek Balam, Cenote and lunch! It was a private tour for just our family with Nephi as our tour guide. Nephi was an absolute wealth of knowledge when it came to the historical sights! He made the places come alive for us and the kids tying in archaeology, history, and our religious beliefs. He took us to a Cenote that we basically had to ourselves and lunch was absolutely delicious and gave us an appreciation of the local culture and food. The kids said that it was the best meal of the trip! It was an absolutely wonderful day and would highly recommend to others!

Heleman was an amazing tour guide with years of experience and tons of information about the connection of the Mormon religion and the ruins of Coba/Tulum. However, the highlights of this tour was both the cenote and the lunch. It was truly the best tacos we have ever had. With homemade tortillas that she makes in front of you, the most perfectly spiced and tender pork, and amazing horchata it’s is a must eat. The cenote was the coolest we were on our entire trip and jumping off the platforms was an amazing thrill. We love you Heleman.

Jonathan was a wonderful tour guide! He took us out on Christmas Eve, and it was so special to hear stories of the Mayans and the similarities in our beliefs. He’s very knowledgeable and really had our attention. He was always accommodating and made sure we were comfortable and had plenty of bathroom breaks and cold water. He also made sure our 72 year old father didn’t have to walk very far. We were given ample time at each location, and he was very patient allowing us time to explore and take photos. He also made sure to time each location just perfectly so that we missed the huge crowds. Maybe the only thing we would change is that he start wearing SUU gear instead of BYU. teasing… 😉 We highly recommend this tour for your next adventure in Mexico!

Helaman Tours took great care of our family while vacationing in Cancun. Helaman Tours connected with us immediately and understood our family values as we got to see Cancun. We loved the adventures and food at Tankah Park, and the comfortable transportation as well. Ezekiel is a very knowledgeable guide and made historical connections for us as we toured Tulum. Thank you, Helaman Tours!

We took our kids (8, 11) on the Chichen Itza, Ek Balam, Cenote Tour. We all really enjoyed the whole day! It was our favorite thing about Cancun. Don't miss this tour if you are in the area. You won't regret it! They are professional tour guides who will let you see the ruins with a LDS perspective. This will be a completely different experience than if you just try to go on your own. You need to go with this tour company to get the full experience of one of the 7 world wonders. We want to go back and do Coba and Tulum next time!
