Looking for a dive operator for your trip to Cancun? Look no further. Seriously! I will save you the 2 hours I spent researching dive operators for my trip to Cancun. I finally came across Scorpio Divers which had excellent reviews. Well now I can vouch for them too. These guys run a good operation.

I booked a 3-day 6 dive package (4 in Cancun and 2 in Cozumel as a part of the day trip to Cozumel package). Outstanding experience all around. Professional, safe, and knowledge guides who really know what they are doing (Alfredo and Miguel). Also the groups are really small so you almost get a personal dive guide (on 4 of the 6 divers we did!). Just me, my wife, and the guide.

The day trip to Cozumel is a must. You here that Cozumel is one of the best dive sights in the world and it lived up to the hype (by far our 2 favorite dives of the week). The pickup in the morning went great (driver was on time) and within an hour we were in Playa Del Carmen and onto the boat to Cozumel (don’t waste your time with the ferry to Cozumel unless you like lines and crowds).

This was my first experience with a “boutique” dive operator (I usually book through big dive operators) but this experience changed my outlook on them. Trust me, go right to the email, send Jorge an outline of what you are looking to do (he is great at follow up) and then have peace of mind that you will be in good hands with Scorpio Divers. Thanks again Jorge, Alfredo, and Miguel, we had a great time with Scorpio Divers this week!

Emailed Jorge before the trip to book our dives. Very helpful, and great communication. We went diving with Alfredo two days during our vacation and it was just my husband and myself. The first dives were on the reef in Cancun. Alfredo pointed out so much wildlife - saw much more than I thought we were going to see. Our second day was to the cenotes. They picked us up at our hotel and we drove down to the site. This was our first time diving in fresh water and Alfredo was very helpful and took us to a cenote that is good for first-timers. Again, he was great at pointing out lots of fossils, the rock formations. They usually get you a meat sandwich for lunch, but I am a vegetarian and gluten-free so he brought me a lot of fruit which was super nice and over and above what he needed to do. Highly recommend Scorpio Divers.

I highly recommend Scorpio divers. My husband booked Scorpio with a private dive master. I am a beginner diver with my last dive being over 5 years ago. Alfredo was patient and sat down with us before the dive to discuss the plan which eased my anxiety. During the dive, he took several pictures and videos of us which were sent to us after. We will cherish those pictures forever. We had an excellent time before, during, and after the dive and the sites were absolutely beautiful! Thank you, Alfredo!

Came down to Cancun to escape the evil monster named Covid. Completed our Advanced Diver Course. Seas were a little rough in the narrow boat but provided good experience diving in strong currents. Did two additional days of diving in Cozumel and the Cenotes. Transportation and service was excellent. The Cozumel Wall and Reef are beautiful. The Cenotes are one of the coolest dives I’ve done, not for those that are afraid of the dark or limited spaces.

I emailed Jorge very late, the day before I dove, to book my trip and everything went perfectly. He answered my questions promptly and confirmed my reservation as soon as he received payment. My dive instructor was Alfredo and I ended up being the only diver under his care, which made the experience very personalized. We did a wreck dive followed by a reef dive. Everything went smoothly and felt very safe. I had an awesome day!

We were 4 65+ old divers. From start to finish we were well taken care of. Adolfo was very pleasant & considerate. I had a problem with PayPal but They took us diving anyway. We did get it sorted out. I was a little concerned when I found out they work out of the Marina, but I was pleasantly surprised. They picked us up on time & we never waited for our ride back to the Resort. We had first class treatment from beginning to end! As an added bonus Adolfo took pictures & sent them to us free of charge! I’ve never had that done in my years of diving. I recommend them as a first class operation. Thanks so much!

Highly recommended!
I was very happy that I booked my dive package with Scorpio Divers. Jorge took care of everything from hotel pick up to the dive site in Cozumel. After 2 dives I was back at my hotel in Cancun by 230 pm. No need to take the ferry from Plaza del Carmen to Cozumel which will take so much of your time. Our dive guide Miguel was very nice and knowledgeable. Same with Vicente who introduced my kids to Discover Scuba Diving. The only downside was I didn’t have the chance to meet and thank Jorge personally.
Muchas Gracias, Jorge!

With the pandemic having shut everything down, my logbook showed it was three years that I hadn’t been diving. On our return to Cancun there was only one choice for getting wet again: Scorpio. Jorge was able to arrange a nice progression of dives, from the simple to the adventurous, and his instructor Alfredo was always in the background ensuring that I was comfortable.

Thanks guys, I am back in the groove and ready to dust off my rebreather at home.

I dove with Scorpio a few weeks ago while I was in Cancun on vacation. My critique of this dive operation is based just on my expectations vs. the reality of the day. I'm a fairly experienced diver, ~100 dives all in the Caribbean including Cancun and many trips to Cozumel. So I'm not complaining about the current being too strong or the divemaster taking me beyond my comfort zone or skill level.

Issue #1 was one of expectations. I was staying in the hotel zone and expected that the boat would leave from the ferry terminal area in town. Instead, it was really far away, on the very opposite side of Cancun, a 30 minute, $35 cab ride. That information would have been good to know ahead of time. Especially since that area is NOT frequented by cabs, so at 5:00 PM when the boat got back, I was a little concerned about how I was going to get back to my hotel and wound up hitching a ride on a shuttle that was there to pick up some other people. The driver was kind enough to let me tag along.

Issue #2 was one of professionalism. I was told to be at the dock at 12:30. I was there at noon, and assumed we would be leaving at 1:00 or so. There were 2 snags. First, the boat didn't get back from the morning dive till 1:30. Second, the afternoon dive included a class full of "adventure divers", and their instruction didn't get done till after 2:00. So our boat didn't leave until after 2:30, and it gets dark at 5:30. Our divemaster called our second dive because it was getting dark, and I still had about 1800 PSI (maybe 30-45 minutes worth of bottom time) still in my tank. I assume that they knew about the adventure divers ahead of time, so why waste my time by telling me to be there so early!? Sitting around for 2 hours sucked.

Issue #3: expectations again. I definitely let Scorpio know I was an experienced diver. My expectation was that I would be on a small boat, which is what they play up in their advertising. Not that I expect any kind of preferential treatment, but I think it would have been nice if Scorpio told me that I was going to be on a bigger boat with a big group of beginner divers. That information might have influenced my decision on whether to dive with Scorpio that day instead picking a different day (and I suspect that's why I wasn't told about it.)

To sum up, I did enjoy the dive at MUSA, and I did make it back to the hotel safely that night (although long after dark, and late for dinner with my wife). I just think that more honest and open communication from Scorpio would have made it a better experience for me. If I had it to do over again, I would have booked with the dive operation that was right across the street from my hotel. I could see their boats from my balcony. It would have been a lot cheaper and a lot less time-consuming. Lesson learned for next time...

Hola! Thanks for the review. In Scorpio we care a lot for customer service but as any business have bad days. Unfortunately we had a setback with that day's afternoon group which made it complicated for us to keep schedule. There's are thigs we cannot control like the day getting dark early, and actually have changed time zones Feb 1, 2015. Distance, transport and groups are mentioned on the terms of service to detail even with a map. For solo divers we need a group to dive and it is mentioned in the questionnaire you filled in to register as well as terms of service. I appreciate your business and we sell dives, the dive seems it was pleasant for what I am happy. Again I apologize for the set backs and any inconvenience, even in paradise we have bad days. Thank you for your comprehension and emailing me (owner) directly helps improve the service :)

I did some research online before going with Scorpio and boy am I happy we did. From the initial enquiry stage that I sent off to 5 different dive operators, Scorpio was the only company to email back a genuine response that wasn't just a blanket template and answered all my questions and suggested things to do (both in and out of the water). We ultimately decided on 4.5 days of diving in The Cenotes, Puerto Morales, Cancun, & Cozumel with our advanced certification bundled in. They packaged it up for us and did us a really good deal.

Once we arrived and headed to our first dive site it was like Ben was an old high school mate that we hadn't seen in years. Extremely friendly, helpful and knowlegable with a great sense of humour! There was a group of 6 of us doing different things and all at different certification levels and expereience and Ben & Jorge worked out the schedule perfectly so that we could all do certain dives together (even though I'm sure we drove our driver crazy!!!).

Our first dive day was at dos ojos in the Cenotes. It was our first time diving in fresh water and also our first experience cavern diving. Unfortunately on our first dive one of the other people in our dive group couldn't keep his buoyancy and/or air consumption under control so it limited us to what we could see, note to all, if you struggle with neutral buoyancy this is not a good dive for you!!! The underground cavern's stalactites and stalagmites are extremely fragile and if kicked/broken they will never reform again so the divemaster will not take you further into the cave if he thinks you are a risk. Thankfully our buddy used both of his tanks in the time it took all of us to use one so the second dive was an excellent exploratory dive in an underwater landscape. It was like diving on mars underwater, simply remarkable!!!

Our second diving day we headed out to Cancun for some drift diving along the reef there. Unfortunately the Crab I'd had from the Crab Shack the night before wasn't agreeing with me so I will forever remember this dive as the first time I profusely vomited into my regulator throughout my entire ascent. Also I almost completely ran out of air on my first dive due to the combination of strong current, queazyness, weak stomach and insufficient propulsion device (fins were too small), my wife/buddy thought I was taking the mick when I made the out of air sign so swam off. Thankfully Jorge was right there to do a buddy breathing ascent with me and take me to surface. Note to self, check gauges more regularly & buy a good set of fins.

Our third day we went out to Cozumel for some deep wall diving. All I can say is.... WOW!!!! I'd never encountered anything like this. Crystal clear water with easy 150M visibility and amazing underwater formations made this quite a memoreable experience. Being 40M down and looking into the abyss and seeing a huggggge turtle a further 100M feet down or so was amazing, just gliding along chillin out. Our second dive was a drift dive along the shelf, very nice and relaxing with good variety of marine life.

Our last day we went out to Puerto Morales for a wreck dive and also a night dive. In between the day/night dive Ben took us to a restaurant that had, quite possibly, the best fish tacos In the world. My god they were amazing. Wreck and night dive were fun and when we'd finished we were certified advanced divers :)

On our last full day we organised our driver Tony to take us out to Chichen Itza for the day and also stop by a cenote for a dip/cliff diving on the way back. Talk about an awesome way to round out the week of diving!!! There isn't much these guys can't organise!!!

In summary, if you're looking for personal service, small groups, local knowlege & variety of dive sites, these guys are the go. It's the way diving should be!!!
If you want to just be a number in the group of 50 divers trampling on the coral, missing out on local cuisine & being herded like the money cow you are, check out a competitor.
