Totally recommend this company for fishing charters! It was our first time fishing and Travis and César were amazing, helping me to catch my very first fish, which just happened to be a 25lb, 46” barracuda! We traveled as a family of 5, with two young children, 2 and 6. Even my 6 year old got in on the action, catching a cuda of his own that we ate as the freshest ceviche I’ve ever had prepared by César as we were docked in the shallow waters of Playa Norte, Isla Mujeres. Travis is also incredibly knowledgeable about the history and fun facts about Isla Mujeres and it’s clear that he respects the people and culture of his adopted home. At the end of our trip, César filet our catch for us and suggested ways to cook it up. We ate well that night! Especially during this pandemic, it was awesome having a small charter just for our family. Definitely would recommend you spend your time with Don Chignon Charters!

During the first week of June, we had the opportunity to fish with Don Chingon Charters. Months prior to our trip I was coordinating with Travis, the owner, who answered all of my questions! Since Travis was out of town, his right hand man, Cesar, and another close friend Captain Luis were going to put us on some fish!
We originally had one 6 hr trip booked, but wanted to catch some more fish! The first day, we caught queen trigger fish, Bonito, and a strawberry grouper while bottom fishing since trolling was slow.
A couple days later, we went on another 6 hr trip. The bite was very slow trolling so we switched to bottom fishing again while having live bait out on other lines. We caught some Bonito and a jack while trolling to another spot. With only 30 minutes left before heading back in, a storm was about to roll in. The water got very calm, then right as it started storming with rougher seas and heavy rain, one pole went off with a sailfish. 30 seconds later another pole went off with a sailfish. We were fighting two nice sailfish at the same time! Mine was 92” and hers was 88”. Both days we enjoyed drinks and freshly cooked fish at the local restaurant back at the dock. As promised, the Don Chingon crew put us on some fish and trophy fish at that! Even out of sailfish season, they were able to find us these fish. If you want to catch fish, Travis and his crew are the only way to go in Cancun! The next trips are already being planned!

Our trip was everything we expected and then some. Our Captain Ceaser and First Mate Gustavo were incredible. These two guys hustled to put us on fish and to keep lines in the water. I do a little fish guiding in the states and these two guys did not let my expectations down. We paid for a 4 hour trip that was very reasonable in price, but we caught a lot of fish for the amount of time our lines were in the water. The communication from Don Chingon Charters was perfect as well. They responded to all concerns and questions immediately after emails were sent. We also used Don Chingon for our hotel shuttle for the airport and other trips in town as well. They were always punctual and greeted us by first name. This charter service does it right on everything they do. Thank youTravis (owner) for such a great experience. We even stopped on the way back for a refreshing swim.

We came down for a wedding from California, and myself, my father, and father-in-law decided to take a day out with Don Chingon fishing Charters. We had an epic day the captain (Felipe) and his two deckhands were amazing! We caught so many fish, different species of fish and had a great time the whole trip. The experience was seamless from the start. I had reached out to Travis and he was exceptional with making sure everything was taken care of leading up to the trip. Explained to me in detail of how to best arrange getting to the marina and boat. In the first hour we hooked into a large white Marlin, from there on it was fish after fish. From Bonita, to amberjacks, wahoo, barracuda, grouper, and many more. The whole crew worked hard to get us on the fish and it definitely showed and payed off. We recommend taking a trip out if you ever have a chance with Don Chingon, and when we return to Cancun we will be sure to book another trip.

well... this was a weird experience. We booked a 6 hour fishing excursion for 4 adults - 2 of which are football linebackers. Combined, we were probably 1,000 lbs. of extra weight in addition to the captain, the first mate and all their gear. The boat is very small, maybe 25' x 4', with absolutely no room to move in ANY way. We all had to sit separately, one of us on a cooler at the back of the boat. The ride out to catch our bait fish and to the fishing locations was very rough and the cooler slid repeatedly.
We were under the impression WE would be fishing. Turns out they do the fishing for you and only let you reel the fish in. Maybe this is because there was no information given about fishing licenses and we didn't have them? All other charters indicated 'license included". But honestly, there wasn't enough room for us to fish anyway. We sat and watched them fish. At one point the boat starting taking on water and the first mate was bailing it out by the buckets. No life jackets were ever offered the entire trip and we were 10 miles offshore.
The captain and his mate did let us reel in 4 nice Mahi-Mahi - a beautifully colored fish. We didn't want them so we gave them to the captain. The hospitality was nice and the beverages and sandwiches provided were good, but we weren't fans of this trip at all. It wasn't what we expected in any way. We left out on the boat at 7a for a 6 hour trip. We asked to go back early and were back at our resort by 12:30p.

Ok.. where to begin… 1. We have 6 boats of all sizes for our clients to choose from based on their specific needs and/or wants. You chose the smallest and cheapest boat on the website. Some people prefer smaller boats and some people don’t. It’s personal preference.. if you need to rent a car for 4 people totaling over 1,000 pounds, would you rent a small compact car or a suburban? I think a suburban would be a better option in this situation. Same applies to renting a boat and common sense applies. 2. In each of our boat listings, we list the Pros & Cons of the boat to prevent our clients from booking something they don’t want or expect. The boat you booked clearly states that it’s small and can be rough and wet in certain conditions. We aren’t hiding anything and strive to be clear, open and honest about all of our boats and experiences that we offer. We provide very detailed info on our website and cover every topic and question you may have. Ultimately it is up to you to decide which boat and or experience you want and it is up to you to research and make an informed decision. We are always more than happy to answer any and all questions, always. * We would prefer to loose your business completely as opposed to any of our clients having a bad experience. 3. Regarding fishing licenses… There is tons of information on the website including info about licenses and much much more. We are actually known for “over delivering” on how much info we provide to our guests so that they know what to expect and what they need to do to prepare for the trip. We didn’t ask you for a fishing license because you didn’t need it and that info is clearly stated on the website and you didn’t ask about it so there was no need to talk about it. If you were concerned about a fishing license, just ask and we would have answered any questions you may have had. Again, we are not hiding or withholding info. If you ever had any doubts, just need to ask. 4. Weather and rough seas… we are dealing with Mother Nature here… This is unfortunately an element that is out of our control. If conditions are unsafe, we have to call the trip and head in. A weather forecast is an educated guess, the weather can not always be 100% accurate and can be better or worse than expected and that’s why it’s called a weather forecast and not weather facts. Safety is always first. 5. Life jackets… we are required by law to have life jackets on board for every person. We always inform our clients that there are life jackets if they want them. 6. “Not letting you fish” but you got to reel in 4 mahi… ??? Not sure how those two things can go in the same sentence but… The conditions that day were rough and because of your groups “larger” size and the small boat that you booked, maneuverability was limited and the Captain and mate did everything they possibly could to quickly hook up to some fish to give you the best experience possible before heading in. In conclusion… you said the service and hospitality was good and you caught nice fish. I think what it all boils down to is that YOU booked the wrong size boat for your “plus sized” group. My recommendation for you is to not book a 50cc moped for a linebacker, get the Harley next time.

We had an amazing time fishing with Travis! He is originally from Texas before moving to Mexico so he speaks perfect English. He and his first mate Caesar knew the perfect spots to catch the big fish!

In our short four hour trip we went off shore (which I didn’t expect) and caught a huge Wahoo, black fin tuna, red snapper, along with trigger fish!! We caught way more then we were expecting and had so much fun!

Travis was great with communication. He kept in touch via IMessage and even let us move our fishing trip to another day that had better weather (less choppy). He was waiting for us on the dock when we arrived and was ready to go.

Travis and the mate filleted all the fish for us and gave it to the restaurant at the dock so we could eat our fresh fish for lunch. Travis and Caesar went out of their way to make sure we had an amazing experience. This fishing trip was definitely the highlight of our trip and we can’t wait to go out with Travis next time we are in Cancun!

Went on this trip with my 80 year old father and my girlfriend and brother. We did s 5 hour trip and they continuously Tom’s us how we needed to do more time to get the “big fish” and that we shouldn’t expect much from such a short trip.

I have done a few dozen fishing charters from costa rica to Alaska in my life and wasn’t enjoying their BS. The continuously talked about us tipping them and every time we had a fish on the line they would say “big fish big tips”. It got very annoying.

They were pretty rude to my father and girlfriend when they lost a fish on the line. They are novice at this and needed some help. We caught about 8 fish but we all left feeling annoyed and regretted the experience.

Most likely you’ll catch some good fish, but I don’t really want my family around these people.

I ended up going on this boat trip with a family I met at my resort. I had no idea what to expect, but I’m incredibly happy I ended up going! Captain Travis got us out to the bluest water I’ve ever seen. We fished on our way out there, then went snorkeling once we got out! While everyone was snorkeling, Caesar made us the best ceviche I have ever eaten. We wanted lobster, so Travis got a boat to come over and sell us 5 lobsters which we took to a restaurant and they cooked them up for us! It was so nice to get away from the resort and experience “real” Mexico. Hands down, my favorite trip to Mexico and this is the reason for that! I will definitely be booking again next time I’m in Mexico! Go see Travis and Caesar! They will not disappoint!

Amazing fishing experience with Captain Travis on his boat Bubba. When I was in the process of booking the fishing trip, I had some questions and used the chat option on the website. Travis called me immediately and answered all my questions so I proceeded to book an 8 hour trip.

I arrived in Cancun the day before the fishing trip and unfortunately the trip was canceled due to bad weather. Travis was flexible and was able to rebook for a different day when weather got better.

The fishing trip was fantastic, had a blast. We snagged several bonitas and tunas.
Highly recommend Don Chingon for your next fishing trip in Cancun!

Travis and his mate Caesar made our first deep sea fishing trip an amazing experience for my 9 year old son. I let Travis know that my son wanted to try and catch as many species as possible and boy did Travis not disappoint. Travis mixed trolling with bottom fishing. We caught barracuda, snapper, grouper, Bonita, and almost a sail fish among other things. Travis interacted so appropriately with my kid and did a great job making sure not only that he had a great time- but also so he was safe. Travis took care of everything from arranging transportation to making sure we had food and drink during the trip. You could not beat his price either. We will definitely be back!!!
