All-Inclusive Chichen Itza, Valladolid with Cenote Swim & Mexican Buffet

992 reviews
Chichen Itza is an ancient Maya city in Mexico that was abandoned in the 15th century. Now a UNESCO World Heritage-listed archaeological park, its intact temples, and famous stepped pyramids may be explored during this comprehensive guided tour, which tops off fun-filled history lessons with a visit to the colonial town of Valladolid and a swim in a sacred limestone waterhole. A savory buffet lunch is also included.

Look no further if you need a trustworthy, reliable and knowledgeable guide for transport or a personal day trip/tour. Our group fell in love with Avelino. During our visit to Akumal, our clan--next-door neighbors from Minnesota: 4 parents and 4 college-aged boys who have shared family vacations over the years--were blessed with Avelino's insights, his warmth and his humor. Our trip was emotionally charged from the beginning as my son will soon graduate from college, and it may be difficult for our group to plan future vacations together. Avelino was waiting for us at the airport, making it super efficient to get started on our trip. He had us laughing and joking before we even entered his spotless van, and when we asked if we could make a quick stop for a cold beverage on the way, it was done! He immediately connected with everyone; within minutes, he knew each person's first name. With Avelino's help, we arranged a day trip to Tulum, the Grand Cenote, and a visit to Casa Cenote, a restaurant on the ocean we would never have found on our own. Avelino made suggestions about the itinerary, and we followed his very knowledgeable lead--no small task when 8 people have different thoughts about how to spend the day. He was so patient with us, and quietly told us, "I think I know you now, and I think you will like this plan." One of my sons had to leave early for the airport, and we did not hesitate to send him on his own with Avelino, who by now, felt like family. When Avelino returned to pick up the rest of the group for our return to the airport, he quietly shared how he and my son had talked all the way to the airport. It was lovely to hear about their exchange, with my typically-reserved son sharing his plans and Avelino sharing his wisdom with this almost-college-graduate: "When you find a job that you love, like I love mine, your job will not be work." This sums up the way Avelino engages with his customers--he truly loves what he does, and he always ensures that his customers feel safe, cared for and enriched by his love of his Mayan culture. Thank you, Avelino, for sharing yourself with our families and making our trip uniquely special. We are forever grateful. See you back in Akumal.

Hello Reader, if you are looking for a more authentic Maya tour experience, you owe it to yourself to contact Avelino, the Mayan Traveler. he's a sweet man, has a lovely wife named Blanca and a 14 yr old son who is showing an interest in the hospitality business. I'm a travel agent and as many times as I have been to Quintana Roo, I have never enjoyed a day away from the beach, more than Oct 25th 2018 when he came to pick us up at the Secrets Akumal resort. He took us to the the village inland called Filipe Carillo Puerto. You will be hearing more about this area in the months and years to come. But if you have more time than we did, get Avelino to combine the city tour with a stop at the less visited Muyil Ruins or Bacalar lagoon. Awesome trip, Avelino. You're the Mayan Time Traveler! Avelino was suggested by the lady we rented a a VRBO from in Puerto Aventuras. I reached out to him via email, and he quickly responded and provided airport transfers to and from Cancun (about 1 hour 20 minutes). He even let us stop at a large grocery store in Playa del Carmen for us to do our grocery shopping. On the drive to Puerto, we discussed transportation to Xcaret. Avelino provided our transportation to and from Xcaret. He is so full of knowledge about the history and culture of the area. We enjoyed him so much that we have already booked his services for our cruise in April. We have a day in Cozumel, and we are going to take the ferry to Playa del Carmen, and Avelino is going to pick us up for a full day of adventure. The best part about travel with Avelino is that you get a totally private tour with personal touches. I am so glad our paths crossed with this wonderful gentleman. I would definitely recommend his services to anyone. He texted with us and worked with us.
