Let me start by saying the tour was great, 12 hours of culture, education, and adventure. Our guide Ricardo was funny, friendly and informative. The town of Valladolid was quaint and charming, and the stop with the Mayan artisans was very interesting. Chichen Itza is beautiful, and the stop at the cenote was a perfect way to cool off.
However, the itinerary above makes it seem clear that Chichen Itza is visited first, then the cenote with lunch, then the town of Valladolid. We picked this tour because of its early morning start, with the intention of seeing Chichen Itza when it was both cooler temperatures and less crowded. What we actually did was visit Valladolid first, then lunch break, and then we arrived at Chichen Itza at nearly 2pm. This was very disappointing, as it was the hottest time of day and looked like Disneyland with about 50+ big tour buses in the parking lot.
Simply put, the tour was great and we have no regrets, but if we had known the actual itinerary we would not have bought the tour.

Overall it was a very good day and our two guides were informative and entertaining. What I did not like was the two hour infomercial prior to stopping at the Mayan Craft Centre. Actually would have liked to miss that and just have an hour to hang out in Valladolid. It is a quaint narrow streets town with lots of little shops crying to be explored. Crafts are extremely expensive and buffet so so. Was thrilled to be able to visit Chichen Itza. Too bad it is spoiled by on site vendors every where you turn. They are in your face. Was told around 2,000 stalls are on site.UNESCO Heritage has told the Mexican Government that if they do not remove all these vendors from within the boundaries of the site their world heritage status will be removed. Let''s hope the government takes action. The cenote was beautiful. Since I am older I am not able to manouever the 91 steps and down to the water, but enjoyed the view and the surrounding scenery.

I feel bad about having to rate this tour only a 3 stars but wow was it not what we expected.
First off, the bus picked us up 30 minutes late. We didn't make it a huge deal but it was slightly annoying because we were waiting for awhile.
When we get into the bus and start picking up all the other passengers we realized that this bus is a little too small for all the people on the tour. Every person still had a seat to their own but it was cramped and I felt anxious the whole time because of how little room we all had. My fiancé is 6 foot and barely could sit in the small chairs.
Our guide introduces himself, he says that they have changed up the schedule of the tour. This made us very angry. Instead of going to Chichen Itza first, we would be making a stop at Valladolid, A store I'll get into that in a minute, Ik Kil Cenote, and then Chichen Itza. He said that they were doing this to avoid the heat of Chichen Itza. Which was not the accurate reasoning and we'll get into that in a bit.
So for the next two hours, our guide turns our educational talk into a sales pitch. He brings out these trinkets that he claims to be the perfect replicas of Mayan artifacts. He claims that you can only get these perfect replicas at one place. He then also proceeds to talk about a Mayan birth certificate that he bought at this one place. He talks and talks and hypes it up and then tells us that we too can have one for a small price! It was clear where he was going with this discussion. He hands each of us a little card to write our names so that we can get a Mayan birth certificate because.. surprise! We are stopping at this store.
Stopping at this store was clearly not in the description of this tour. If it had been, I would have picked another tour because my fiancé and I did not come on this tour to shop. We came to learn about the mayan ruins and swim in the cenote. We go to Valladolid for 25 minutes so not worth going. Then we stop at this authentic Maya store and take 40 minutes to allow people to shop. A majority of our bus did not buy a thing because I had a feeling they didn't really care to shop either.
It was a very much wasted 40 minutes and 40 minutes we could have spent at Chichen Itza.
We then went to the cenote and had a wonderful time because we were on our own the whole time. And got on the bus to head to Chichen Itza.
When we got there, our guide tells us that no one is allowed to bring backpacks in. So we leave our stuff on the bus and proceed to go in. And what do you know? We notice every single other person at the site has a backpack or large bag on them. We really don't know why he told us to leave things in the bus but it was super inconvenient because we now had loose stuff in our pockets and were carrying all of our important items rather than conveniently carrying our backpack.
He then takes us on a guided tour which was actually very nice because I like to hear what he says and it taught us a lot about the Mayan ruins. However, he talked for a long, long time. So long that we barely got any time on our own to walk around the site. He promised us 40 minutes to ourselves and we maybe got 25. I can't help but wonder if we hadn't gone to the store... would we have had more time for Chichen Itza? See where I'm getting at.
And then, it was SO hot while we were there that all of us felt like we were instantly getting sunburns and sweat was dripping down our bodies. We are aware that it is Mexico and that it's hot. But any individual knows that the hottest part of the day is between 3-5:30. And we show up right in that time frame. It was clear that he didn't really change the tour because of the heat, but so that he could fit in that Mayan Store before all of us got tired and warm after touring the Mayan ruins.
This clearly made us mad and we could tell other guests on the tour weren't happy about it either.
There were also a lot of little things on this tour that made us go hmm but if I tried to list out everything, we'd be here all day. It's sad because this tour had the potential to be SO COOL and awesome but it definitely fell flat. It was disappointing that we didn't have an amazing time on this tour but we are hoping that it was just our tour that had this experience and not all tours are equal. My suggestion is to not allow this tour to turn into a sales pitch and if it is, include it in the description of the tour.

We purchased this package after reviewing the description, photos & reviews on Trip Advisor. The tour-guide (Ricardo) was unprofessional, arrogant and unfriendly person, and got offended when we asked him that we were expecting a luxury bus and don't feel comfortable in the Van. Other passengers were also not happy throughout the tour as all were expecting the Luxury bus. As we were a crew of 16 people only, they decided to bring the Van, which was completely packed and got very congested. The entire ride is very bumpy and it gets very uncomfortable in the Van.

Believe me for USD 79 you can easily get luxury bus for this trip. The guide told me that this what you will get (Van) and if we have a concern then feel free to add review comments on the website.

Dear Traveler, We are sorry you got such a bad impression of the tour. However, we would like to comment on your review, because there is no notice in our tour description on any web site, that the tour is operated on a big bus. We do offer a comfortable air conditioned transportation for our clients, but we do not promise any particular type of the vehicle. However, we do usually send big buses because of the number of clients. In your case - we sent a 18 places van for a group of 16, we provide this type of vehicle even for our semi-private little groups (for a higher price than 79USD) & have never received any complaints. In you case you have received a semi-private little group service for a regular public tour price. We would also like to point that we are always available to respond any inquieres in less than 24 hours & in a case that the vehicle type was a crustal point for your, you could have contacted us in order to reconfirm if the big bus is programmed for your date. Our guide Ricardo has offered you to leave the tour only because you were complaining about the vehicle quality, which you may understand prevents Ricardo from doing his job as a tour guide. Please feel free to contact us if you have any additional questions. Best regards, Mariia Kireeva

We were a small group of 6 people who went on a private tour to the 3 Mayan sites near the Mayan Riviera. The sites were so amazing! We would have loved seeing them no matter what, but going in a private group with our knowledgeable tour guide made the experience great. The very nice SUV we toured in wasn't real roomy, but it fit us all and our belongings. Al was super nice and he told us so many interesting facts and stories. He even climbed Coba during our visit! It was a long day going to all 3 sites and swimming in a beautiful cenote, but we all thought it was worth it. Definitely use bug repellent if you go. Even with it on, we were bitten by mosquitos.

Positive: go to Chichen Itza. Amazing place!! Cenote should be first stop so that you are cool enough for walking through the ruins. Be aware that there are souvenir sellers everywhere. Which brings me to the less than positive: the tour company was fine; the bud was newer and air conditioned. Seats too narrow, though, for comfort. And much of the trip to see the sights was like a time share presentation: selling stuff to a captive audience. A personalized Mayan calendar; 1.5 hours at a trinket store with lunch (the lunch was good); habe hour picture taken and then trying to sell it back to you (on the bus) with a bottle of liquor. Some other hidden costs: you must rent a life jacket at the cenote if you want to jump in. Not a big ticket item, but good to know ahead of time. And, it’s not an hour of swimming. After showering, changing, and renting the equipment, it comes to about 15 to 20 minutes in the water. Just so you know.

Dear Travelers, First of all, thank you for booking with us our shared tour to Chichen-Itza and taking your time to leave a review. We are sorry to hear that some of the tours circumstances had not allowed you to fully enjoy the experience. However, I would like to clarify some of the facts you are pointing out. First of all, there are no hidden costs in the tour. Such things as souvenirs or life jackets are completely optional and are not listed in the "included" things. It is completely up to you to buy or to rent it. So, we can´t name it a hidden cost, because it is not obligatory. The timing of the tour does include 1 hour visit to the cenote. Again, it is up to you how you distribute this time. After the whole day walking and sightseeing, we find it more conveniente to visit cenote at the end, so our clients can freshen up. Souvenirs sellers are local people most of the times from Indigenous villages. In order to give back to the local community and help them, they are allowed to offer their products on the tours operated in Yucatan. As for our vehicles, they are standard tour vehicles, with soft seats, air conditioners and restrooms. Our clients experience are of extreme importance for us, we will take all your comments into the consideration for future improvements. Hope to see you on OlMar Travel Tours again soon. Best regards, OlMar Travel Team

On our last night in Cancun saved this tour for last. We have travelled extensively and the ceremony felt authentic to us. It was an awesome evening with delicious homemade food served by Mayan people in their own community. The drive out is long ie 1hr 45 min from Cancun so be warned but on the way back you are so relaxed you sleep the whole way! The swim in the cenote under the moonlight was especially memorable. Would highly recommend.

I would really recommend doing this excursion. The price is really great for what it includes. Our tour guide Tacho was fab!

The lunch was really good! Lots of selection. The cenote swim was very busy. it is clearly a very popular one and they make you pay for lockers/life jackets. It was still very good. I would say try a different cenote if your looking for a better experience there.

Only pointer was the air con there are back. The bus had a lot of broken caps on the fans above your head. We were freezing and it made the very long journey there and back extremely uncomfortable for us as we were dressed for the warm weather.

Besides that... it was great and we really enjoyed it!

We liked it allot cenote was beautiful the ruins was amazing a little too humid for me but worth it. The only thing I didn't like it took the whole day, not enough food for the whole day, only lunch available, so bring snacks, also driver was excellent Don Francisco 👍 our tour guide was great but got to involved in his culture, got a little boring for me, talked about how everything is connected with the moon, menstrual cycle, really?? I don't want to hear that in a tour , other than that even though it was loooooooong day it was ok, got picked up at 8 am got back almost 9pm
