This is a *great* museum -- excellently designed, and well thought out. The exhibits were set into a useful context and the displays were visually stimulating, making for an informative and engaging experience. Wonderful layout. Loved this place.

The museum is great, but this listing has an incorrect address. It's located further up the main street across from the market. The other listing is correct.

If you know nothing or even very little about Mayan culture and history, this museum is worth a visit. You could probably blow through it in about 1 hour but give yourself 2 and you'll walk away with a better experience. It's 3 floors, very open, nice displays and lighting. Overall it's well done and does a great job of educating visitors. Also it's in the heart of Chetumal which is a bustling city that in itself is worth the experience. There's a good place to grab food just about 2 blocks south next to the Ucum hotel. At the same location behind the museum there are some neat art galleries with peaking into. Parking is crazy. We found a spot on the street. It's really chaotic down there if you plan on driving so be alert and conservative in your driving methods. It's like driving in LA or NY.

Great museum with an extensive history of the mayan culture. One could spend hours delving into all the interactive screens explaining the language, calendars, etc. Excellent variety of displays and lots of information pertaining to each display. Very reasonable admission fee. The bathrooms could use some TLC though.
