I volunteer with the organization which restores historic organs throughout the State of Oaxaca and Tlachochahuaya is one of my favorites. The restoration of both the church and the organ was done to perfection. The town is just off the highway to Mitla. The restoration was another project of the Alfredo Harp Helú Foundation which has done so much good for Oaxaca.

This colonial church in the small town of Tlachochjuaya is one of the most beautiful we visited in our 6 months in Oaxaca. It has a beautiful 18th century pipe organ that has been restored and is used for periodic concerts. Must visit if you have the time.

The details is this church are amazing, especially when you look closely and can see the pieces of Zapotec ruins that were used when building this church. Spanish were infamous for want to try and destroy native culture/religion but pieces are stil there to be found in this church.

Set somewhat our of town but easy to get to by taxi, Sam Jeronimo is a beautiful village and well maintained. The people are delightful and the exconvento was lovely to visit.
Paved streets and small stores you'll fall in love with the simplicity of this place and how life may have been 50 years ago, 100 years ago and maybe longer.
The church is stunning with all the gold inside and the pipe organ is played often by the locals.
My friend took me around to show me something she called 'the little secrets' which is
about the conquests that happened here. If she wasn't with me, I wouldn't have known.
Do visit. It's well worth it.
Wheelchair friendly. Kid friendly.

This church was unique in terms of its construction, unfortunately, not kept clean and badly in need of upkeep. not too popular with the tourists, it was just that my local friend took me there.

A very nice church but its simplicity is it 's gift. We didn't look around too much because there was a service going on but it did not have that much on the walls to look at. A big courtyard though and it looked as if it had many events there and in a side chapel.

This seems to be listed twice on trip advisor. We arrived on Sunday while service were in session. There is a sign asking for tourist to respect this active church. We respectively looked from the rear of the church. We loved seeing the stunning ceiling which is so uniquely painted. The outside of the church is quite simple. Until you enter, you’d have no idea how special this place is. Make sure to have an ice cream nieve out front from the vendor planted across the street.

Check out this church in the small town of Tlachochahuaya, on the way to Teotitlan del Valle. It has been beautifully restored inside and you can climb a spiral staircase to see the small bellows pipe organ.

San Jerónimo has benefitted from ten years of restoration and is a really lovely gem. The interior is unique is it was painted by native artisans in a beautiful floral style. For a ten peso donation, you can walk the circular stairway to the lift and see the restored organ, considered the earliest working organ in the Americas. This is on the way from Tule to Mitla and you’ll likely be the only people there. A lovely spot.
