Fabulous Class
Apr 2021
My wife and I had a great time learning to make classic Oaxacan food. From salsa, to guacamole, chile rellenos, tortillas and mole. Esperanza is amazing and the class is laid back and fun. Augustin, who owns the home where the class is held is a great guy and we enjoyed getting to know him. The food was fabulous (best meal we had in Oaxaca). Highly recommended. Note this is not a class taught in a restaurant by a professional chef making complicated recipes you will never make again. This is a hands on, taught in a home kitchen, cooking local food and taught by someone who cooks for her family and others every day.

a MUST DO for Oaxaca!
Feb 2021
We did Augustin and Esperanza's class on our last day in Oaxaca and both agreed it was the absolute highlight of our trip! Esperanza leads you through the market, stopping to try whatever you'd like and explains the ingredients so thoroughly! We wish we'd done the class sooner in our trip so we could have had more knowledge of what we'd been eating!
Augustin welcomes you into his home so graciously - what's his is yours. Help yourself to beer, mezcal and his friendly little pup, Morena becomes your best friend instantly. We didn't want to leave without her! While Esperanza shows you the ropes of a true Oaxacan kitchen, Augustin tells great stories of his travels, time in the US and how he started the classes. Make sure to let him DJ the music - he played some of our favorite Grateful Dead songs and told stories of seeing them live in San Fran in the 80s.
Esperanza is so patient (especially with us gringos with little cooking experience) and shows you every single step and all the hard work that goes into making the traditional dishes of the region. We made salsa, guacamole, chile relleno and finished with a DELICIOUS red mole dish. We have such a greater appreciation for Oaxcan food now.
We left full, tipsy and reeling from an incredible 6-7 hour experience. We cannot recommend this experience more - it is a MUST do. We feel like we have friends/family in Oaxaca now, thanks to Augustin and Esperanza and we are already planning our trip back.
If there is one thing you do in Oaxaca, make it this class!

Incredible, authentic experience
Jan 2021 • Couples
This was best cooking class I have done anywhere, hands down. Esperanza is the third generation of her family to cook these wonderful dishes to expert level. If you talk to them in advance, she and Augustin will tailor the class so that you leave having made the Mexican recipes you are most interested in - and you will never have tasted them this good before! First of all you will go to the market to collect ingredients for your day (which will also give you the chance to buy some extra to take home with you). Then you’ll go by taxi to Augustin’s place which is not far from the centre and is a perfect sunny, quiet, well-equipped spot for your lesson. There you will meet the amazing Morena - Oaxaca’s best-behaved and cutest puppy! Augustin and Esperanza are a great double act; he is a total chatterbox who will ply you with beer and mezcal while talking about his travels. She is a quiet culinary genius, running you through a series of fresh, delicious dishes with total ease. I cannot overstate how good the food is. I plan to return in the next few weeks to learn more from her, and to take full advantage of Agustin’s abundant mezcal supply! <3

The BEST mole!
Sep 2020 • Couples
It was an amazing experience to cook with Esperanza. We went to the market, then on to the kitchen. Everything was ready for us to begin our class. We learned to cook salsas, chiles rellenos, and mole and more. The BEST mole! Esperanza is very knowledgeable and explains everything very well. I will never forget this experience and now get to be able to cook this food at home and have a taste of Oaxaca with me. Oh and all while having mezcal which just adds to the experience.

Best cooking class ever
Mar 2020 • Friends
We chose this cooking class because we wanted to learn from a traditional cook and esperanza did not dissapoint. We got to decide on the menu as a group, then shop for our ingredients in an incredible market tour. The food we cooked was so delicious perfectly accompanied with beer and unlimited mezcal in a fun party atmosphere. This is the perfect class for a group of friends looking to learn loads and get involved but also drink and have a really fun party afternoon. They are lovely local people, running a local business making yummy local food. I enjoyed my first class with agustin and esperanza so much I went back and did it again with different friends a month later.

Tasty insight into real mexican cooking
Jan 2020 • Family
We booked only a few days before via email with augustine who responded really quickly and accommodated & entertained our 5 month old daughter while we participated in the class.
Espiranza is a true Mexican cook and taught us to make a delicious red Mole aswell as tortillas, 2 salsas, guacamole &
Augustine invited us to help ourselves to the beers & mezcal & even sent one of the girls in the class home with some!
There was a special request to learn Tamales and Espiranza accomodated for this despite it not being part of the program.
We came away with full bellies & the skills to make a mexican feast! Cant reccomend enough!!! Thank-you!

Delicious and fun!

This cooking class was not only an educational and fun experience, it blew my mind. We had a lovely small group(including the sweetest little 5 month old, Ophelia). Esperanza met us in the zócalo and took us to the market. Her knowledge and being a natural with teaching created such natural energy through the day.She was so much fun! We learned red mole, different salsas, tortillas, and more. We had beers and tasted mezcal throughout the afternoon while Augustin chatted with us between courses. I am a chef from NY and absolutely fell in love. Highly recommend to anyone who loves to learn, eat, and hang with the locals!

One of the Highlights of Our Mexico Trip!
Jan 2020
We did this excellent cooking class today and it was honestly the highlight of our trip so far. Booking was easy with Agustin who was quick to respond. The class is not too big (max 7-8 people) so everyone is able to get involved. Considering the duration of the activity (7hrs), the food and drinks included and the unforgettable memories, the price is very reasonable at $1250MXN pp.

We met Esperanza at the Zocalo and spent an hour wandering the markets and picking up beautiful produce (with regular taste testing along the way!) for our cooking class. This was a unique addition and learning about the produce made it a much more enjoyable experience. We then proceeded to cook and eat some incredible authentic Mexican food for the next 6 hours interspersed by stories and jokes from Agustin who is a real character. We made salsas, stuffed chillies and two types of mole and were full to the brim by the end of the day.

Esperanza is a beautiful person and an incredible teacher - thank you so much for a wonderful experience we will never forget!

Great class with great food!
Jan 2020
We had a great class with Esparanza! She took us to the local market and showed us where the produce was coming from. She also provided vegan options for 3 of us in the group that required it. Only 4 in the group total so it was a great size. Definitely is an all day event so be prepared to leave full and tired. We met at 11 am and went until about 4 pm. The complimentary beer and Mezcal made for a fun environment with lots of great conversation so we overstayed a little (oops). Would definitely recommend.
