This continues to be one of the most meaningful experiences to be had in a place filled with all kinds of terrific experiences. This time we hiked above the clouds and learned even more about the villages of the Sierra Norte and the plants which have long been a source of natural healing... We feel so fortunate to have discovered this wonderful, caring organization... Do not miss this.

My husband Francis and I went on a day hike to Llano Grande, and had a wonderful time. Yves and his wife have been doing ecotourism in Oaxaca since before it was a word--20 years or so. He was knowledgeable about the area himself, and still hired a local guide from the village for the hike--who was also wonderful. Beautiful scenery; we learned so much and the day ended with a wonderful lunch. We'll be back and will do a two day hike next time!!

My husband and I recently did a 4 day hike in the Sierra Norte mountains with our guide Yves, his sweet dog Keta and local guides. The scenery is breathtaking, varying from soaring pine trees to Spanish moss, ancient oaks and magnificient agave plants. The vistas are amazing and we even came across wild horses on two occasions. The daily hikes were about 5-6 hours per day at a gentle pace. Each afternoon we would arrive in the villages for an authentic lunch and stay overnight in cozy cabins with fireplaces and lots of blankets ( nightly temperatures around 6 degrees) Yves is knowlegeable, funny and truly passionate about the villages and the Zapotec people. Claudia, his wife organized our pick up and was always responsive to emails. Overall a great experience, highly recommend!

This was the second time I had booked a trip with Tierraventura. Last year I went on the Cuajimoloyas day trip which was a great introduction to the ways of Yves and Claudia. They have lived in Oaxaca for decades and know the area quite intimately. Yves is one of the most patient, gentle and kind men I have ever met. He’s just naturally very Zen and sweet and so much fun to be with. I went with two other women who I did not know and we all got along like we had known each other for years. We went to wonderful family restaurants (one of which was in a local woman’s home ❤️) in the village where we stayed overnight in absolutely lovely accommodations which are run by the Mixtec people of the village. There were two hikes - the first one to the village of Apoala through a gorgeous canyonland, and then the second day we went to very mystical waterfalls outside of the village. I am a 67-year-old woman who is in decent shape and I handled it all quite well. In fact, I got to use hiking poles for the first time and I’m planning to buy some for myself to continue with my own hiking back where I live in New England. All of these things are provided for you by Y and C - even hats! You can bet that I will be returning next year when I come back to Mexico in the winter and I will look forward to seeing Yves and Claudia again. I feel like they’re old friends at this point. A wonderful resource for anyone staying in Oaxaca who wants to get far outside the city and doesn’t want to rent a car and drive on their own. Wonderful!
