I spent two wonderful days with Mary-Jane and her horses. The ranch itself is set in beautiful grounds with very comfortable lodgings. I particularly enjoyed the food, delicious local recipes with ingredients from the surrounding area. Mary Jane knows her horses inside and out, many of them having been born and raised on the ranch . She is able to... More

I love the ride across the valley to Dainzu. The fertile farmlands are a testimony to sustainable agriculture and to preserving their traditional methods - horse drawn carts and yoked plow oxen. You were a natural on horseback. It was a pleasure riding with you and hope you will come back! Thanks for taking the time to write this review. More

Mary Jane was a delightful host. She gave complete and excellent instruction prior to our ride. The horses were well cared for and calm, the scenery was breath-taking and the dogs made the experience all the more fun. The four adults in our group all raved about the trip. My daughter (16) had a great time on her first trail... More

Funny you should mention the dogs. I was just, yesterday, discussing the role that Noche and Sasha have with the horses. They are definitely a part of the horses' society, in fact we have noticed that when one of the young horses is being ridden as lead horse by the guide and we come upon something new and therefore a... My 8-year-old daughter and I took the full-day ride. It was stunningly beautiful. Mary Jane did a great job familiarizing us with the botany of the area and pointing out the incredible biodiversity. Definitely recommended!

I really enjoy taking families riding. I learned to ride when my son was seven and for the last 17 years we have enjoyed riding as a way of exploring the world and as a competitive sport together. I hope you and your daughter will, too, enjoy many years of riding together. More

We were four adults and one 16 year old young woman. The ranch is in a lovely little pueblo about 30 minutes outside of Oaxaca Centro. It's beautifully rustic with adobe buildings surrounded by huge Organ Cactus. Mary Jane gave us a warm welcome and got us up and on the horses safely with a brief lesson on how to... More

It is an especially good feeling when Oaxacan residents come out to ride. Thank you and don't wait so long before coming again. There is a network of trails we keep trimmed so you can ride the Discover Oaxaca Half Day Ride several or more times and not experience the same route twice. More

Wonderful experience. First time to ride a horse, and it's such a beautiful place to be in. I was nervous in the beginning up and down the trail. Mary Jane was an awesome guider and made me relaxed and enjoy the trip so much.

It is easier for the novice rider to relax after receiving a little basic instruction. Also when riders go out knowing how to let the horse do its job, the horse it much, much more likely to march down the trails cheerfully. It's important to me that my horses enjoy their work and do it willingly. More

The horses are well cared for, the scenery was breath-taking and the little dogs were a delight. My kids (13 and 17) had a great time on their first horseback riding experience. A bit more practice and instruction would have been helpful for me before we headed out on the narrow winding trails.

In fact, Horseback Mexico has often been praised for, indeed, giving a brief instruction demo on trail riding before actually heading out. We offer helmets and half chaps to protect the legs. People are coming out for a guided trail ride not an equitation class. Considering all the superlatives you assigned to the experience: "well-cared for horses, breath-taking scenery, delightful... Our family took the two day back country ride with Mary Jane. We are a mom, dad, and two teen daughters and all novice riders. Mary Jane is an excellent instructor. Her horses are easy to ride and well-trained and in excellent shape. We went through a remote mountain pass. WOW. What an experience. We traveled up 5,000 feet, seeing... More

It was a pleasure! People like you, who are looking for adventure off the beaten track, allow me to have this wonderful job. Thank you. Come back; me or my son Gabriel can give you some practical trail ride instruction and we can move out at a faster pace next time. More

Healthy, well cared for horses and a beautiful natural setting for a trail ride just 30 minutes from Oaxaca center. Mary Jane did a great job of matching horses to riders so that my husband and I (who have only ridden horses a few times) could have a fun outing while our daughter, who does ride, was able to learn... So glad you enjoyed your first ride so much. Torrid Elegance is an amazing mare and you were her last rider before she has her foal in early February. The vet wants her to just walk about freely but no more riders for a couple of months. He said that she is a very, very healthy 20 yr. old mare.... More
