Really loved the experience at Mexico Horseback. Totally professional, amazing horses and a great location. We went on the Valley and Foothills Ride, a relaxed 2 hour ride through great scenery. Our horses were Niza and White Sox - both born on the ranch. The staff we're all helpful and friendly, a safe and fun day all round with the ranch carefully observing observing COVID-19 safety measures. Iris was our guide, she had great knowledge of the area, birds and plants too and Mary Jane the owner is there to help out too. It's been a tough year so this was a great way to get out and safely enjoy ourselves. At the end of the trip there was super fresh natural juice, home baked biscuits, watermelon and Mezcal.…

On our ride we embarked from an historic hacienda and rode some old trails that had been camino reals in times past. They are dirt and the had some stretches of trotting and cantering. We took some trails through the mountains. We passed by an ancient ruins as well as two local herders with goats, cattle, and sheep. Otherwise we where alone with our two experienced guides. The scenery was beautiful. The horses where great, spirited but easy to handle. The guides Mary Ann and Iris gave us some pointer on riding but where not overbearing. Mary was very knowledgable about the local area. The three and a half hour ride was a little strenuous but not supper challenging. My wife and I are have both ridden some before. She had racing and jumping experience and I grew up with horses and worked as a trail guide years ago. We stayed overnight. The room was simple but very nice and stylish in a rustic way. The walls where adobe bricks and the garden is beautiful. I saw a shooting star from my awning that night. The meals, cooked to order at the ranch, where excellent and traditional. The next day we did a hike up a canyon near the ranch and saw many different kids of flora and biodiversity including beautiful orchids and other flowers. We did a tour of of a church, a local weaver that is friends with Mary, and some other villages the next day. Mary was an excellent knowledgeable guide for this part also. I highly recommend this experience as an addition to eating in Oaxaca city and seeing the sights there.…

I spent 2 days at Rancho Pitaya and had an amazing experience. Mary Jane and staff welcome you with open arms and make you feel like part of the family. My first afternoon was spent hiking with Mary Jane who is a wealth of knowledge on all things Oaxaca...birds, animals, plant life, culture. She is an incredible person! . I saw some of the most diverse and incredible flora I had ever seen...organ cactus, agave, wild orchids, wild poinsettia to name a few. The next day we went for a morning horseback ride through yet more wild and beautiful countryside. Having not much experience riding horses, Mary Jane put me at ease with her training and by pairing me with Centurion...a great, loving horse with tons of experience! Overall, a fantastic 2 days...charming, comfortable accommodations, incredible, authentic Oaxacan cuisine, beautiful setting. You can't ask for anything more! Thank you Mary Jane, Iris, Gina and Gregorio for all your hospitality! I will be back! Michael PS...I loved it so much I did go back the following week for one night!…

I cannot say enough about the fantastic experience I had at Rancho Pitaya! I am an avid rider, and the week was filled with riding amazing and athletic horses. The ranch is so peaceful, the village farmlands and surrounding hills and mountains are so beautiful, and Mary Jane has such a deep knowledge of culture, history, birds, flora and fauna, and of course horses. The week's activities included riding every day except for the day spend birdwatching in the mountains, and eating delicious authentic meals. This trip was during COVID, so the focus was on socially distanced, outdoor, healthy activities. My accommodations were lovely. The weather was perfect. Tons of birds to watch from the breakfast table. We rode from the ranch 3 days and trailered out 2 days. I will be returning for more riding experiences in the future! Thank you Mary Jane, Gina and Gregorio for all you do!…
