I had the great pleasure to attend a live feed from the MET Opera House of Madama Butterfly in November of 2019... Unforgettable!

Bolshoi Ballet Performance of the Black Swan
May 2019
This is an amazing restoration of this historic theater. My first time in Oaxaca and I never imagined that I would be watching the Bolshoi Ballet. (March 2019) et. Any seat would have felt close up. Just could not stop smiling afterwards. Look forward to attending other performances there in the future.

Beautiful Theatre in Oaxaca
Mar 2020 • Couples
This is one of the most beautiful buildings in all of Oaxaca. Do yourself a favor and walk by. If possible go inside for a tour. Just breathtaking!

Amazing
Feb 2020 • Family
A unique magical place. The theater is very intimate which makes you appreciate the events they host here even more. I attended a FREE concert that the theater had, but definitely will be back for an upcoming performance. My kids enjoyed their time and highly suggest you expose them to this unique place.

The Nutcracker Ballet by the Saint Petersburg Ballet
Dec 2019 • Solo
The ballet was amazing, each move well executed and polished. But I was also mezmerized by the stunning Theater. Macedonia Ácala was built in the early 1900’s, possibly 1903, by the order of Porfirio Diaz, the President at that time. He also had 3 other theaters constructed with the same colonial architecture of that era. It is beautiful and exquisite at the same time. I sat in the upper balcony, but I had a great view of the ballet, as no one sat in front of us. And the stunning leaded-crystal chandalier hung in front of my view. It was at least 3 meters long, and I was told, it weighs over a ton. There was attention put to so many details, that I found my eyes wandering around the room taking it all in; from the heroes of a past era in music to some of Mexico’s own heroes, their faces surrounded us. It was an enchantingly beautiful setting for the Nutcracker ballet. The ballet itself was beautiful, but at the moment, I am reviewing the Theater. I do hope you will find a moment to go to a music event or a show sometime. You won’t be disappointed!

Interesting Old Theatre
Dec 2018 • Couples
Sitting on Independencia is was started in 1903 and completed in 1909 in what they called French modernist style. It started life as a Casino theatre and changed its name later. It was an interesting building unlike most others and worth a look. It was not open to the public.

Quake damage/closed
Oct 2017 • Solo
I last visited Oaxaca for the month September of 2017, the year that Oaxaca was hit by two major earthquakes. As a result, the theatre was closed and I didn't get to see it. (I believe its staircases collapsed.) I'll be back this year, staying in the center rather than La Nória, so I hope to experience a performance there this year.

Inexpensive Elegance
Apr 2018 • Couples
Located one block from the cathedral, Teatro Macedonia is a small concert hall that's as fine and ornate as any you'll find in Europe. If a concert or show is scheduled during your stay in Oaxaca by all means buy a ticket and go. There are no bad seats in this elegant theater and the prices are very reasonable. We saw an elaborate Guelaguetza performance highlighting folk dance from every major region of Oaxaca. We were even invited onstage to dance in the final celebration! Highly recommend.

An exquisite building ... inside, and outside
Feb 2018
We enjoyed seeing the Met in HD in this superb theatre. Could there be a more appropriate, or beautiful, building for enjoying an opera? It's certainly a far cry from our Cineplex back home. Visitors to Oaxaca should make a point of seeing this grand building (it appears to be open during certain events) and -- better still -- attending a performance here.

Beautiful classic theatre
Dec 2016
This lovely theatre dates from the early 1900s. Good views no matter where you are seated. A varied program of music and shows but dont miss the Oaxaca symphony orchestra if they are playing!
