Wow! Lorena was our guide for the sunset rooftop food tour and was amazing! She was extremely friendly and knowledgeable about the food and culture of Oaxaca. We felt like we were spending the time with a new friend. The restaurant choices were perfect and left me wanting to try another food tour they offer. I would absolutely recommend them and any restaurant they recommend. My favorite was the moles at Tierra del Sol but La Rambla's tuna taco was OUTSTANDING! There wasn't any restaurant we tried I wouldn't return to gladly. Thank you Oaxaca Eats and Lorena for a wonderful food tour!

Thanks Melissa for the incredible review of the food tour and our fabulous guide Lorena! She brings the food and Oaxaca to life in such an interesting and friendly way. Tierra del Sol is a master at moles and you can't beat the view that's for sure. And, La Rambla rocks with their shrimp and seafood tacos. Thanks for mentioning both of these great restaurants. So great to meet more of the family we have come to know over the last 3 years. Safe travels home.

Wow this tour was great in so many different ways! From the many different moles to the unique mezcal cocktails, it was great from start to finish. Our guide, Fernando, was extremely knowledgeable about Oaxacan food and culture. He was fun and laid back, we never felt rushed. The owners came and visited us during the tour and gave great suggestions about where to eat and play while in Oaxaca. We always do a food tour early in our travels so we know where to eat later on in the trip. This tour was one of the best!

Thanks Taylor for taking the time to write such a wonderful review of the food tour and our guide Fernando! We really appreciate it. It was great to meet you all and to be able to celebrate your anniversary with you. You all have it right with starting with a food tour. It's a great way to learn the city and to find great places to eat. We hope to see you all back in Oaxaca when things get back to normal. Cheers!

When you come to Oaxaca you will certainly want to experience all of the amazing food that the city has to offer. The sheer number of options is overwhelming; Oaxaca Eats food tours offer a well-curated selection of partner restaurants where you will receive a tasting menu created especially for your tour. I feel that it is important to emphasize that what Oaxaca Eats provides is not only a food tour. Come hungry for information, not just for the food! My guide, Lorena, went FAR above and beyond my expectations - her passion for the cuisine and culture of her city shines! In her eyes, one can truly see her deep connection with each dish, and her knowledge is apparent as she explains each unique ingredient, the backgrounds of the restaurants, and how she can answer any questions that you may have. Beyond the restaurants we visited, the walks between locations included Lorena’s recommendations for other restaurants, the best rooftops with views, specialties of the house, where to find great cocktails, interesting museums, other tourist sites, and her memories of the city. Bring a notebook! The Oaxaca Eats experience was the perfect way to be introduced to a nice variety of fantastic “off the beaten path” locations - in fact, during the four weeks spent in Oaxaca, I ended up canceling nearly all of my reservations for the major restaurants and enjoyed dining at many of the places that Lorena had recommended. Many thanks to Lorena, Dean, and Kay of Oaxaca Eats!

This is a can’t miss culinary tour. Our local guide Lorena was very knowledgeable about Oaxacan food, spoke excellent English, and was very personable. She took us from small stands to hidden courtyards and to a spectacular rooftop with great views. We sampled over a dozen delicious dishes from moles to ceviches, even with some mezcal thrown in. We were introduced to lost indigenous recipes that chefs are trying to preserve. The restaurants were all lovely with friendly chefs and caring staff. While we had been to Oaxaca before and were fairly familiar with the food, this tour was a gem. This is a do not miss activity in Oaxaca and the best way to spend a few hours.

Hi Andy!! Thank you for taking the time to write such a wonderful review about your experience with Oaxaca Eats Food Tours. We apologize for the tardiness of this reply. Your review painted such a nice picture of what to expect on the tour for others. And, since you were already familiar with the food of Oaxaca we're so glad that you both found new things to try and truly appreciate your high praise of our guide Lorena and the tour itself. We hope to see you back in Oaxaca again soon. Cheers!

I ate very well and would recommend this tour for the food but I also want to be honest about my experience of the tour which is why I only rated it 3 stars. When I first met up with the guide, there were 2 guides, not 1. One of them was the owner of the company (an immigrant from the US) and he was accompanied by Fernando, a local. I found out that this was Fernando's first tour and the owner was reviewing his performance. This created a tense atmosphere for me as I felt like everything Fernando said was being analyzed, especially when the owner would chime in or encourage him to elaborate more. I know the owner had good intentions but him hanging around made me uncomfortable. I also didn't appreciate his story of moving to Mexico simply because it is more economical. Not really what I wanted to hear on a cultural tour. When he left, the tour was perfect. Fernando was an incredible guide and explained all the foods we ate and their preparations. We went to all the top restaurants in the city. After 5 hours of walking and eating, I was knocked out! While the guides are local and all the restaurants are very authentic, being shadowed by the non-spanish speaking owner was odd. I hope future guides will be tested one-on-one instead of on an actual tour.

Thanks for taking the time to offer your thoughtful review of our tour. We're sorry that this wasn't a 5-star experience for you like the majority of our clients experience. To guarantee a great experience our training protocol requires an owner or manager accompany our new guides on their final training tour. We apologize that this wasn't explained more clearly to you. Consistency and standardization are important so that each guest receives an equally fantastic food tour no matter who the guide is. You're right. Fernando, is an incredible guide and we are so happy that he is a part of our team. Yes, we are from the US but we have called Oaxaca home for over 3 years now. We started Oaxaca Eats to showcase the food, history and culture of Oaxaca when we discovered that a walking food tour didn't exist at the time. We hire local guides and support 2 local charities with a donation of 5% from each ticket sold. We support as our tour restaurants by paying for all food, drink and gratuities. We've been welcomed with open arms from our neighbors, restaurants and charities. We are a part of the Oaxacan community and continue to support it through social media, paying local taxes, and through sharing its riches with our guests. Unquestionably, Oaxaca is more affordable than the US, but that was not our driving force when when we moved here. Obviously, there was some confusion for you to highlight this as a purported negative. Again, thank you for your review.
