I suppose everything pales after Santo Domingo. The facade is very impressive, the interior I found rather plain.

It was impressive building and interesting but sombre and dark inside. It is a massive stone building and worth a look but it was dark and lacked much atmosphere or interest.

the Cathedral sits in the area next to the Zocalo. It has a large market area around it (where they were play Coco on a large screen). The church itself is huge with many small side chapels and a beautiful larger one that seemed to...More

If you’re on foot, you will walk by. Stop and have a look. You’ll see lots of people gather around this area. Outside if your lucky you’ll see oversized paper mache wedding costumed people dancing with musicians celebrating....yes, a recent marriage. We were there when...More

There is nothing particularly special about this Cathedral. Because of the seismic activity in Oaxaca, the walls are very thick and the towers are not tall. There was nonetheless damage done in last September's twin quakes. As another poster noted, if you're in the vicinity, stop...More

If you are next to it, go inside, but don’t make a special trip. There are prettier churches in town, especially Santo Domingo. The plaza in front of the Cathedral is a gathering place, and you can see traditional music and processions

the Cathedral is located around 10 minutes from the main square Zocalo, but it is worth the visit- you won't regret it

This Cathedral is not as sumptuous as Santo Domingo but it has some of the most beautiful carved glass doors. The glass panels depict religious figures simply using bas relief carving/etching of the glass. The sense of depth of the figure changes as you move....More

This is one of the most important churches in Oaxaca. Besides it’s physical beauty (rivaled by Santo Domingo), what I liked best about this church is that it was in active use. I saw many people praying inside the church. There’s a little museum behind...More

Before we went in we passed this massive but also beautiful Cathedral several times. The facade is beautiful with a lot of great details. The atmosphere in front of the church and around the Zocalo is hectic and sometimes a bit loud but once you...More
