If Oaxaca wasn't configured like a chessboard, you could wander endlessly in this market. Typical local fashions and wares are on display (aquarium section was a surprise), but much of the space is devoted to food. If you truly want to eat like a local,...More

The full array of the foods of Oaxaca. Be prepared for the onslaught to all five senses!....in a good way. The market is immense.... everything is organized by food type: breads, meats, poultry, vegetables, fruits, spices....the list goes on. Multiple lunch counters serving freshly prepared...More

Food everywhere. Local market just next to the benito juarez market. Big and full of many things including clothes and souvenirs.

We visited twice. The first time we sat down at a counter, called Alex. (I didn’t want to eat at a place where the girls were thrusting menus in my face.) Alex was serving one thing only. Green Mole enchilada with beef on top. It...More

This market has a good diversity of prepared food. Loved the chocolate shake! Hated the BBQ smells. Choices of vegetables for purchase. Watch the process for making Mole and do some tastings also.

This place reminds me of a meat market I went to in Montevideo, Uruguay. You pick your cuts, and they grill them for you in 5 minutes! The chorizo is fantastic, and be sure to try the chiles de agua.

There are just too many choices, so I will have to return. Food is prepared for you, it is delicious, and it dirt cheap. Lots of interesting choices; mole, tlayudas, the tripe soup seems popular, and don’t forget the grasshoppers! You may have to brave....More

The chaos of the Pasillo de Carnes Asadas in this market turns out to be quite well organised and a really tasty lunch option for those who enjoy meat. First of all you pick and pay for your meat from one of the dozen or...More
