We have breakfast on October 1, 2023
We decided to go to the hallway with conspicuous smoke to cook the meat on charcoal, we sat down and they served us at Irving butcher shop (blue shirt)
We requested a package of 150 pesos, however when it came time to charge us they told us that they had made a mistake and had given us more meat, wanting to charge us 210 in total.
We asked to speak to the person who helped us and he never came out.
In the end I only paid him 150 but they try to intimidate you, I was left with a bad taste in my mouth.
There are inspectors in the market where we filed a complaint.
If it happens to you, pay only what you asked for and look for an inspector.

Pure chaos! I loved it! The Pasillo de Humo (alley of smoke) was just an amazingly fun experience. You pick your meat, they find a place for you to sit, you buy your condiments and drinks, then they bring the cooked meat and tortillas to you and... yum from there! If you can stand noise and chaos, and sharing your tables with some locals... and a very smokey room (from all the grills), this place will have your mouth watering for more! I recommend the cecina, and don't forget the grilled onions for your condiments.

At least once in a lifetime you should eat at this market. It is not the most luxurious in Oaxaca, but it is a typical place where everyone can eat at a very good price. There is the roast meat area where buying your meat includes roasting service. There are people selling sauces, drinks, tortillas and you can eat at a shared table. All very tasty and at very good prices. There is also the run food area where you find homemade food from the region. Highly recommended.

I must during a visit to Oaxaca, fresh chickens, produce, bread.
There is an enclosed "alley" with multiple vendors selling meats by the kilo who then grill it for you. Purchase vegatables, salsas and tortillas separately.
A real treat!!

There is a little something for everyone at this market from food to clothing to home goods. All of the eat in restaurants were full when we visited before noon. Being from North America we are not accustomed to shopping for our fruits, vegetables and meats the way they do in the Mercado. Fun experience and lots more shopping on the nearby streets as well.

I ate here and food-stall-hopped at least 4x in Oaxaca. The food is great, lots of locals and tourists dine here. Plenty of seasonal, fresh fruit, meat, cheese and tlayudas, tamales and tacos and sopas to be had plus Oaxacan Chocolate, which is amazing.

Only a food market. Seems that all the locals, ALL OF THEM, can be here eating so therefore the street food in here must be good. However, I was on the hunt for gifts for home and found that more helpful next door at Mercado Benito Juarez!

The market is beautiful, very traditional and picturesque… it is a place to visit as part of the Oaxaca tour, however if you don't know where to eat it is no guarantee that where you sit you will eat delicious food. We sat at one called Mary and the truth is that it wasn't delicious at all, in addition to the very bad service, the food was horrible, the mole was not delicious, the service was very bad on the part of the people who served us.
In general I do recommend the market, but I do not recommend the place where we sat down to eat called Mary.

Mole, mangoes, chico zapote, tlayudas, tostadas, fresh juices, breads, and more, so much more. It is a feast for all your senses. Such good and cheap eats. Grab a couple of bags of mole paste to take home as a delicious souvenir. I would have eaten here every day if not for my travel partner, who wanted a finer dining experience for a couple of meals.

What are the hours of the market? Is it open 7 days/week?
Written December 28, 2017
hello , I would say yes it is open 7 days a week , from probably 07:00 am till evening time , we went in the late afternoon , early evening and it was still very busy with locals being local produce and earning in the various food stalls .
As it supplies local ingredients for house wives , I would safely say you will not be disappointed ...
