I had the absolute pleasure of attending the quesillo making workshop with Andrea Luna, and her lovely daughter. This woman is a walking wealth of knowledge around quesillo and sooooo much more, including everything dairy (I walked away with about 10 different recipes), local history and culture. In addition, she was just a pleasure to be in the presence of and she made us a delicious and beautiful meal that was ready for us when we arrived. I am not a tour person in general, as I often find them impersonal and contrived. This was NOT that and I thank Tlayudona and Andrea Luna for the effort of making available.…

We went to the country and prepared tortillas and salsas in Doña Juanita’s house. It was truly a fantastic experience. We loved seeing and doing the work that goes into good healthy food, loved the conversation and the atmosphere. Our guide, Octavio, was very engaging, friendly, and kind. We loved every minute of it.…

Cooking in the Campo. A terrific series of cooking classes where you receive hands-on instruction in the preparation of traditional Oaxacan meals, snacks, and drinks. The classes are led by a native Oaxacan women at her farmstead 30 minutes from Oaxaca centro. I had a great time, I learned a lot, and I'll use that knowledge to impress my friends with my Oaxacan cooking when I return to the US. Spanish to English translations done on the spot by the very capable and charming Tania de Tlayudoña. So fun, so reasonably priced with transport included to and from the city. Do it. Just do it.…

Our family of 4 (including a teen and preteen) had a great time learning to make quesillo with Andrea. Tanya drove us out to Etla where we enjoyed a hands on learning experience making quesillo. Andrea also shared with us a typical Mexican breakfast (everything homemade including the yogart). It was delicious and a wonderful experience to share stories with Andrea and some of her family. Afterwards Tanya drove us back to Oaxaca. All in all it was a very personal and authentic experience. My only suggestion would be to possibly include another activity with it to extend the fun as it was finished by noon.…

Thank you so much for your review. Come again soon! We also appreciate your suggestion about adding another activity. Recently a group also toured the nearby "castle" and had a great time, so we´re looking into adding that, since quesillo-making is one of our shorter experiences. Some people like a half-day experience though so they can plan other things in the afternoon, so we might run both versions. Feel free to email us with any other suggestions too! We´re always happy to receive critical feedback and to improve :-)

Had an incredible experience on Tlayudona’s mezcal immersion. It was intimate and honest. I learned a lot, had great mezcal, and felt so welcomed by our host. I would highly recommend booking an experience with them if you are interested in hands on experience, opportunities for real discussion, and an alternative to highly commercial tours and excursions. Will definitely be booking another tour.…
