We've always loved Mexican food, but never thought we could recreate these dishes. Turns out we could! Upon meeting Oscar, we planned our menu which included: tortillas de masa, salsa de jitomate (and 3 other types), Tamales with chicken and squash flowers, Tortilla soup, horchata (a drink with almonds and cantaloupe), Mole negro (the star!) and sweet corn ice cream.... Oscar Carrizosa is an artist and a historian. He eagerly shares his unique knowledge of traditional recipes and cooking styles, his love of local, fresh ingredients, and his earnest appreciation of Oaxacan culture and gastronomy. His cooking course is a delightful mix of hands-on application and friendly mingling in lovely setting. Go with an empty stomach; if there is such... More

I took the cooking class when I was in Oaxaca in June. It was great. Oscar did a good job of getting everyone involved. We made fantastic oaxacan food. He even modified a recipe to meet my dietary requirements. The others in the class were really interesting and fun. Definitely worth it I went back for dinner and it was... More

My friend and I took Oscar's cooking class at Casa Crespo and it was incredible!!!! Oscar was so helpful, knowledgeable and fun. He is an amazing (and efficient!) chef. We spent the morning planning our menu, going to the market (where we learned A LOT), preparing our meal, having a few drinks and eating the incredible food that we had... More

We spent the morning with Oscar at Casa Crespo early on our trip. He was an incredibly gracious host and teacher. I especially loved our trip to the market with someone who could show us the ropes and explain all of the different foods and herbs that were new to use. Small class, very personal attention, we were able to... More

I have never done a cooking class before (let alone while travelling), however I LOVED IT! We only had 4 people in our class so it was really hands on. The food we made was some of the best we had in Mexico and Oscar was very helpful. He also gave us a great lesson as well as lots of... More

Oscar was both patient and helpful with the cooking class members and included a bonus extra dish/ recipe. I have just arrived home to Australia and will be trying out the recipes soon.

We had such a great time at Oscar's Casa Crespo cooking class! Oscar is a very patient and talented cooking instructor. Oscar takes his clients through the whole Oaxacan cooking experience - from planning the meal, going shopping at the market, actually cooking the food and then, the best part, eating the fantastic meal! Oscar VERY promptly emailed all the... More

We were lucky enough to have Oscar to ourselves last Saturday morning for a cooking class. We learnt lots and tasted lots! A real highlight of the trip.
