We went looking for a traditional mezcal bar and were recommended here. Unfortunately the staff didn't seem to have time for us and we didn't really like much of their mezcal selection that we tried. The atmosphere however was great and there was some live music when we went. Sure its good for a beer or with a group of friends.

We happened into this place one afternoon when Louis was working. He educated two ingenues about the production, origin and types of mezcal and everything after that is history. We are hooked. We returned multiple times and were never disappointed in the service and knowledge
level of all the staff. Music was nice also.

This bar has an amazing selection of mezcal and some very tasty mezcal cocktails. However, one drink on their menu was so repulsive we had to leave and wash our tongues with tacos.

The oaxachuate (spelled similarly to that) smelled and tasted exactly like vomit. Think about a time you almost puked but saved yourself the embarrassment by swallowing the puke before spitting up in front of your friends. That was this cocktail.

Everything else was amazing and this place would be perfect if they took that disgusting drink off the menu.

Mezcalogia has the house brands of Nuestra Soledad, Casa Cortes, and El Jolgorio, they also have a variety of mezcals from local producers that they sell without a label. You can find whatever you need mezcal wise and it's a good place to start or finish the night.

I love Mezcal. I find it the most interesting, varied, and complex liquor on the planet. I'm not talking about the crappy Mezcal that has a worm in the bottle. I'm talking about the small batch Artisanal liquor made by true masters of their craft out of wild and sometimes very rare species of agave. Once you've tried the really good stuff you will see what I mean. This is the place to try it. All of the Mezcals here are incredible, and the people who work here are very knowledgeable about the different types of agave and the many other things that differentiate the various Mezcals from each other. The variation of flavor even between Mezcals made from the same agave, just in different villages, is truly amazing. During my two weeks in Oaxaca City I visited every Mezcal bar that I could find and there were three that stood head and shoulders above all the others, out of those three this was my absolute favorite. One evening I was in Mezcalogia trying the El Jolgorio line of Mezcals (all excellent) when a man came up and introduced himself and it turned out that he was a member of the family who made these Mezcals and also an owner of Mezcalogia. After we chatted for a bit I told him of my interests of visiting a traditional Palenque and he said "I am actually going to some on Friday would you like to come?" He took me and my girlfriend on an incredible day visiting farms and Palenque's in the beautiful Oaxacan countryside, it was unforgettable (thank you Asis!). If you are someone who is interested in learning about Mezcal and in sampling the very best Mezcal in the world, make this place your first stop.

I know many people think it is not ok to have mezcal in a cocktail, but this place will change your mind! They have created the most perfect cocktail I have ever had! I recommend the "Bees Knees (with some chili)". It was a special, but if you ask Owner, Bobby, or bartender Victor, I am sure they will be happy to make it! In addition to a beyond amazing drinks, they also have one of the mezcal selections in Oaxaca, an amazing and welcoming staff, and an atmosphere that makes you immediately feel at home. We spent many nights of our trip in this establish and made friends for life! We feel lucky to have found this place in our travels! You would be silly to not give it a try!

Great collection of mezcal. The bartender is patient with non-Spanish speaking guests and friendly. The ambiance is lively. The place is popular with locals and tourists. They have a limited cocktail menu.

Come for the Mescal but definitely have one of their custom cocktails. I live in the land of Mescal and to be honest I would much rather have a well crafted cocktail and this joint did me good. Again, like many places in this funky town, it is small but full of life. One might get sticker shock at first but once the libation ordered is tasted then one knows they have found a sweet spot.

Local food pros come here to wet their whistles....this food pro approves.

We bumped into this place by accident while we walked Oaxaca downtown first evening and... we were coming there every night for the entire week we spent in Oaxaca.
They have a huge choice of different local good quality mezcals and fantastic cocktails (try their cocktails of the day, and if you are cold, take Bate al chocolate :-) ).
