About
Mercado de Coyoacan is one of Mexico City’s most iconic markets. It’s a massive two-story complex, with a maze of stalls selling everything from textiles, art, woven bags, fruits and vegetables, to handmade trinkets. You'll need a few hours here—there are plenty of delicious food stalls for a midday snack (like tacos and tostadas!). After having your fill of Mexican street food, stroll around the narrow alleys and watch the locals go about their day shopping for spices and groceries. Consider signing up for a tour—the market is often included as a stop on a food tour of Coyoacan. – Tripadvisor

Top ways to experience Coyoacan Market

The area

Address
Neighborhood: Coyoacán
Once you step into Coyoacán (“Land of the Coyotes”) you'll find picturesque parks and cantinas that will transport you back to the colonial era thanks to the brick and stone details of the area. Iconic writers such as Trotsky and great painters like Frida Kahlo seeked refuge and inspiration in this area, and you can see the unique spirit of this neighborhood reflected in its colorful market where nieves, sopes and all kinds of traditional 'antojitos' are a must try. Restaurants and cafés throughout its peaceful paved streets contain traditional but unique murals and decorations, where one can enjoy a mezcal at noon or the best churros with a cup of coffee.

This is a must see when in Coyaocan...would recommend the Tostado place for food as they are everywhere inside and serve delicious food and various drinks (had the coconut juice and was outstanding). there is also a chocolate with tasting from all over Mexico....its in the middle of the market and can't remember the name but it was fantastic. Market is only a couple of blocks from the Frida museum so easy walk.

Traditional Mexican market. We went there twice to eat, it is not expensive and you can eat it without chilies, something essential for us. In addition, there are many crafts, they sell all kinds of fruits, vegetables and meats.

It is a traditional Mexican market with very good food options at a somewhat high price for this type of markets in Mexico.

In general, the people of the Coyoacan neighborhood (neighbors) recognize two neighboring posts as having street prestige; the guava atole 1 block away in the morning and the man and woman who make tlacoyos outside the market. Good seafood toast stands!

You can find almost most products of vegetables, fruits, tortillas, etc.

The place is dirty, disorganised, with lots of cheap quality stuff. The fruit and vegetable stands were nice, but most peope were rude and did not allow photos of even potatoes. I would not revommend this place for a visit.

We came here for lunch, but we did wander around a bit. It wasn't as much fun as the Medeillin Market, but maybe because this market catered more to tourists and the other market served locals. Lunch at the counter was both fun and good. Nothing fancy but solid middle-brow Mexican food.

Safe, somewhat interesting museum in the Coyoacan area of Mexico. Fairly big and has a large variety of items. Not a great place for handicrafts, however, but if you are interested in seeing how locals from this area shop, this is your place.

Definitely go here! Basic Spanish will help your experience, but even my parents were still able to enjoy it without speaking any.

Had tacos at one of the stalls, so gooood. If you are veg, you have to choose whether or not to eat here because they don't clean their grills after every dish they cook.

Lots of stalls to walk around! It's very close to Frida Kahlo's house.
-There are no ATM's inside, so grab cash from elsewhere before getting here. We had to walk about 3 or 4 blocks before we found a bank.

This market is pretty cool. Very safe and friendly. Worth a wander about. Probably not much you’re going to buy if you aren’t a local, but there are some taco stands and such inside. Lots of produce, meat, and fish. More fun to walk around rather than plan to buy anything. But definitely go if you’re in Coyoacan.

I absolutely loved this market and I am trying to back today. I could get lost in here for hours. So fun and lots of nooks and crannies. I 100% got lost and circled around several times. Treats, treasures, toys, clothing, food, flowers, everything you could think of! Bring home dulceria for your family and friends!

This is my kind of place to eat. No tourists. No English menu. Real food. Don’t worry if you don’t speak Spanish. Just sit down at a communal table, point at the menu or what someone else is eating, and enjoy! We had barbacoa, which you usually find outside the city, and it was fantastic. The market is great to walk through as well, and good if you are looking for less touristy stuff. It’s only on on a Tuesday.
