It literally is just a stick of light, poorly designed, it really is a symbol of the failed Mexican government they spent millions of dollars building this to commemorate the bicentennial commemoration of independence in 2010 but it wasn't ready til 2012 at a cost 3 times more then the original design...... And there's nothing special about it, Just not worth a trip, if your there already then you might want to take a picture of it but it's not worth it walking to it just to look at it

This really is a sore spot with locals. There is obvious disgust when you ask about it.
From the street it really isn't anything and very easy to walk right on by.
Don't! Go underneath to the light chamber! It is very cool. Just a monstrous white room with huge foundation pillars and ever changing lights with a Spanish voice telling stories. It was very relaxing and the acoustics were pretty good too. There is another area with science and technology exhibits that was fun too.
