Ruth is both a wonderful chef and tour guide. She is incredibly knowledgeable about Mexico (and obviously Mexico City), its flavors, cuisines and history. We signed up for the mercado tour and day-long cooking class and really loved communing with Mexico and its food in that way. Ruth took us on a tour of her local market, where we explored... More

There is nothing as wonderful as being in a huge, chaotic foreign city and getting a hug from a new friend when you arrive at a new apartment. This is how our time with Ruth started out. And ended. Ruth hugs her city like she does her food and the people in her life- with gusto! We thoroughly enjoyed our... More

Ruth was great and kept the tour interesting. She has a vast knowledge of the cuisine and is well respected amongst restauranteurs and chefs alike. Ruth was able to get us into some of the most sought after restaurants and we were able to get a glimpse into some of the working kitchens which was amazing to see firsthand. We... More

My tour group spent a delightful day with Francisco our guide, who brought us to to the market in Jamaica to see the floral arrangements and sugar skulls and fresh produce. It was more colorful than normal because of Day of the Dead festivities. We sampled several food items there including corn in a cup with spices and seasoning, a... More

We were able to do the Mercado a Cocina tour with Ruth. I wouldn’t hesitate recommending this to anyone looking for an amazing culinary tour of Mexican cooking; it was the highlight of our trip to Mexico City. Ruth has such an incredible local knowledge as well as gift for teaching. The day spent with her gave us an understanding... More

Ruth is hands down the most delightful and knowledgeable guide I've ever met. Our itinerary included three markets: Xochimilco (where we got to see the preparations for the celebration of Candelaria, honoring the infant Jesus), Coyoacan (where we attended a pan-Latin-America tamale festival), and Jamaica. We ate wonderful food, chatted with vendors, gawked at the sheer abundance of everything, and... More

What a fabulous Sunday spent with Ruth.. Our "tramp" through the Jamaica Market, experiencing the collision of food and culture was coupled with the expert tutelage of Ruth’s vast knowledge of pre- and post-Spanish Mexico agriculture and cuisine. This was followed by a hands-on culinary one-on-one in Ruth's kitchen. (Actually two-on-one with Ruth's assistant doing the heavy lifting) and the... More

I did the Mercado a Cocina tour with Ruth. This course was brilliant as an introduction to Mexican markets and cooking. Ruth is very friendly welcoming person who shows a great passion for Mexican food, with a huge wealth of knowledge on personalities involved. She tailored a course specifically on what I wanted to learn. She has an extensive library... More

As I began to think about what to say about Ruth's tour of the Jamaica Market, I read through some of the other reviews and there isn't much I can add. Ruth is extremely gracious and passionate about food expecially Mexican food. It is a real treat to go through the market with her was an experience I shall long... More

My friends and I only had a day and a half to experience DF. We were just coming off of a two week Food Studies Abroad program and were looking to continue our search for authenticity and Mexican cuisine. We were recommended to take a day trip with Ruth. We met her around 9 at her beautiful house and she... More
