Mojdeh (Journeys Beyond the Surface) was an invaluable resource in planning a trip to Mexico City. She provided options and ideas that I could not have found on my own that turned out to be the highlights of our trip to Mexico City. In particular the cooking class with Lety was a favorite for everyone in our group. We also learned during our visit to Lety’s neighborhood how much Mojdeh has done for the whole neighborhood around the restaurant. If you go to Lety’s restaurant make sure to visit the youth center that is around the corner that Mojdeh helped to build. The guide that Mojdeh arranged for the day trip to Teotihuacán was very professional and informative and explained the history of the site, which needs some explanation as there is not much signage. In addition to arranging tours and activities, Mojdeh was also available for follow up questions about touring questions that she was not arranging, so you don’t have to have her make all the touring you want to do. If you make plans on your own, she will also help with tips on how to make that work better too. It was well worth the fee to assist even those who like to plan their own trips to have a local resource to answer questions.

We visited Mexico City during Memorial Day weekend 2024 for 3 nights and we loved the city. We were 7 people and our best decision was to hire Journeys Beyond for our transportation needs. Mario Fernandez was very friendly and patient to take us everywhere we asked him to. He was punctual in picking us up from the hotel every morning and patiently waited for us to any place we asked him to take us. We communicated through WhatsApp. I recommend having a local driver take you to site seeing places, restaurants and shopping while you just relax and enjoy the city without stressing out about parking and traffic.

Journeys Beyond the Surface, live up to their title. Every detail is thought through and knowledgeable guides carefully selected. In our case, tours in Mexico City, Mojdeh worked with us over several months to select an itinerary that included downtime and self organized days. Tours were spaced out over 2 weeks and that is a good length for a CDMX stay, while covering locations within reasonable driving distance.
This tour company is highly recommended and especially because they listen, tailoring to your interest, while informing the best way to enjoy the trip.

We are so glad that a work colleague introduced us to Mojdeh, the owner of Journeys Beyond the Surface. She is very knowledgeable, responsive and impeccably organized.
We signed up for a private guide and driver to take us from Roma Norte to Teotihuacan, the archeologic remains of the ancient city that lies northeast of modern Mexico City, including the Pyramids of the Sun and Moon. (Be sure to see the murals in the "palacio" too.)
Many thanks to our guide Elias. He is an impressive historian who brings the site to life in his descriptions. He provided us so with much appreciated information that was very interesting and thought-provoking, spanning millennia and centuries of this part of Mexico.
We were able to have a few hours in the historic district with Elias as well on the same day, walking through Alameda Park, admiring the spectacular architecture of the Palacio de Bellas Artes, seeing the Zócalo (main plaza) and the Templo Mayor (and so much more as we strolled the streets).
It was a truly wonderful day. (Many thanks to Luis our driver too.)
Mojdeh also provided great suggestions for the days that we were on our own in Mexico City, taking into account our interests.
If you are planning to explore Mexico City, be sure to reach out to Mojdeh and Journeys Beyond the Surface.

We used Journeys Beyond the Surface for our recent visit to Mexico City and we are so glad we did. Mojdeh was absolutely fantastic to work with. I contacted her several months before we left and she asked the right questions to understand what we were interested in so as to be able to provide a great plan for us. Not only did she arrange for David Zaragoza to be our guide for two days, but she also provided suggestions for our other days. Plus, she gave us restaurant recommendations and advice on everything from airport transfers, taxi/Uber help, money changing, etc. And while we were there, she was available in case we needed help - such as cancelling a dinner reservation. Mexico City is not only huge, but it can be a little intimidating since a lot of folks don't speak English. Having Mojdeh available, was so comforting.
As for our touring with David, he was beyond great. The first day involved walking in the historical center and included a visit to the Education Headquarters to see the Diego Riviera murals. This is a MUST SEE and having David explain everything really made the murals stand out. Then we were off to the Anthropology Museum, which is another highlight. And without David's background, (he's an actual anthropologist!), we would have been in and out in less than an hour. But David really tied everything together and the museum is an important visit for anyone going to CDMX.
The next day, David actually drove us in his car to the southern part of the city to visit the National Autonomous University of Mexico, Coyoacon, San Angel - Bazar Sabado and a boat ride at Xochimilco. We definitely would not have done that on our own and David really made it a special day.
All in all, we loved our visit to this great city and Mojdeh and her team at Journeys, and especially David Zaragoza, were the main reason. They are great at taking the worry out of planning a vacation to Mexico City. Highly Recommended!

A last minute decision (night before), this was great way to end our trip! The private tour for 6 of us gave us the flexibility to leave our place at the time we wanted and make a specific itinerary based on the time we had. Elias our guide was amazing! He was more than a tour guide he was a passionate historian and made sure we were comfortable at all times. We stopped off at the cave restaurant (La Gruta) to start, an absolute must!! Then moved to the museum, residence and pyramids. We spent the perfect amount of time there and were given great history. Thank you to Elias, our great driver Luis and the operators who made us have a lovely trip!

We found this company nine years ago on Trip Advisor and used them for a wonderful private guided tour of Teotihuacan. This year we went back to CDMX to stay for a month, then were joined by four other family members for another week. During the month we had two sets of visitors who wanted to see the pyramids, so we recommended Journeys Beyond and we used them ourselves for a tour the last week. Everyone agreed that the tour, guide, communication and transportation were excellent and they could not have been happier. For our own tour, we were met promptly at our accommodations by our guide, David, and a 10-person van with an excellent driver, Fernando. The trip to the site was easy (with a quick stop for breakfast). David was not only incredibly knowledgeable, but a lovely person to spend the day with. After our tour, we went to a very good restaurant, Mayhuel, and he got us a shaded table outside with a view of the Temple of the Sun. Everyone agreed it was a highlight of the trip. We got so much more out of this visit than e would have on our own. Yes, the pyramids are amazing to look at, but without knowing what you are looking at and what archeologists have learned about these people, you are really missing out.

We worked with Journeys Beyond the Surface to book three tours during a trip to Mexico City in March 2024. We had an awesome experience with both the booking process and the tours! All three guides - Elias, Rodrigo, and David - were friendly, knowledgeable, funny, and kind. We learned so much from them and I can't imagine our experience in CDMX without them. Our group included young teenagers and the guides were wonderful with them. Our drivers for the tours outside of the city (Teotihuacan and Xochimilco) were safe and professional. Mojdeh was wonderful to work with - she sent clear and prompt communication. Thank you so much, Mojdeh and the Journeys Beyond the Surface team!!

Mojdeh made our time in Mexico City amazing! She communicates promptly with you each step of the way and listens to your feedback when planning. The guides she works with were all amazing ! We learned so much from each of them and we enjoyed spending the day with them just talking , eating lunch , and getting to know each other! Rodrigo , Jaime , and Maria were our guides. The trip went smoothly thanks to Mojdeh with airport pickup , restaurant recommendations, and neighborhood suggestions for our stay. The drivers each day were prompt and the vehicles were clean and comfortable! I would recommend Mojdeh and Journeys Beyond the Surface in a heartbeat! We already have to our friends!

I reached out to Mojdeh to get some advice on an itinerary I had already developed. I really liked the suggestions and feedback I received and after a few exchanges felt like we could use their services in a day-long trip to Teotihuacan. Rodrigo (our guide), was excellent. Super knowledgable and friendly, and was able to get a sense of our group and what we were looking for right away, as well as make adjustments and pivots as necessary. Our whole group really enjoyed our time in CDMX, and I feel good about recommending this service to others.

Sorry, I don't speak Spanish, but I'm guessing that they're asking whether the tours are good for children and whether they can be picked up at a certain location. Journeys Beyond the Surface was very accommodating -- if they contact Journeys I'm sure all their questions would be answered.

Greetings I will be in Mexico City on Friday 16 of September. I am keen to arrange a tour and guide to see as many mural paintings by Diego Rivera and other Mexican Mural painters from the same period as possible but cannot find an email address for you. Please can you post your email address for me to make an enquiry. Many Thanks, Hollie Hollie

Ditto re the email address and the quality of the guide. He is a professional artist who sees Diego's art at an eye opening leve and can explain it so well. However let me strongly encourage you to visit Frida's home. That is something that still resonates with us - in fact drove to Boston to see an exhibition centered on her picture 2 women.

We have a 6- hour stop over in Mexico City. There are 7 of us in the family. Could we take a driving tour around the city in the afternoon with dinner? If so how much would it cost for the tour and how much for a standard dinner per person? We arrive on Wed at 3:00 pm and our next flight leaves at midnight. Thank you.
Written June 10, 2016
If you have a wonderful tour guide as we did you could easily get it done. Might want to do a quick dinner. Don't hesitate call Journeys Beyond The Surface. They will make it work for you.
Written June 26, 2016
What does the tour cost per person?
Written March 20, 2016
Up to 8 hours with the guide, with his car, costs USD $240 total, not including entry fees and food. That can be divided between the number of people you have (although they'd have to fit into one car!). I thought it was well worth the money for his knowledge, experience, good company, driving through all that traffic and avoiding all the hassle of having to get to places oneself.

Hi tsamczyk, where did you stay? We are wanting to do the same as you - loose schedule, not being guided every step of the way. Is there a particular area to stay in you’d recommend?
Written December 28, 2015
Hello Kelly, tsamczyk stayed at the Red Tree House. Both the choice of hotel and the tours were planned with the support of my company, Journeys Beyond the Surface.
