    Amazing!
This free museum has exceptional architecture and design inside and out; it’s shaped a bit like the Guggenheim, with a circular path. There are six floors, chronologically arranged from the Renaissance forward. We especially loved the way they grouped pieces by subject matter: all the Diana statues, Adam & Eve paintings, Madonna & child, Adoration, Pieta, etc. were near each other for comparison. On the very top floor there’s a collection of Rodin sculptures too huge to take in. We spent 3 hours but easily could spend all day there.

Impressive collection, however a bit looking like a warehouse ….
… the overall setting is impressive, wide entrance with the master piece from Rodin just at the end. The museum would deserve more focus, the works are presented in a cumulative, not intuitive way. Could be also perceived as charming finding a Picasso in the middle of the exposition. The top floor with all the Rodins and many other master pieces fron Degas etc again looks impressive, but equally a bit like a warehouse. A pitty. Great to mention that entrance is for free providing access to everyone who enjoys art

Fascinating collection. Great outing on a Monday
We went to museo soumya because most of the major museums were closed on a Monday. We were glad we did. It's an odd but fascinating collection in a gorgeous building and beautifully presented. The first floor is a collection of high quality robotic reproductions of famous works of European art - pieta, David, Moses etc. It's odd to think about having these reproductions so prominent, but Slim brought to Mexico City artwork that most people will never get to see. The rest of the museum collection is truly remarkable and eclectic. A large exhibit on the history of communication technology that is very enjoyable and thought provoking. There are floors of European and Mexican art that contain an enormous collection of second tier and early works by famous artists and nice pieces from second tier artists working at the same time. It's cool to see some early works and drafts from breughel, rodin, Manet, Picasso etc. Essentially, there are few "outstanding" single pieces, but taken together, the collection is astounding. We passed a very engaging few hours here. And it's free!

    Really interesting art museum.
This is a really interesting museum. The collection is very broad and interesting. I think that the people who wrote that there is too much « filler » are not used to spending the substantial part of the day in an art museum. Of course, this is Mexico and the highlights concern Mexican art but there are significant works by Rodan and other European artists, It is also free. And the building in which the museum is located is also very interesting, reminiscent of the Guggenheim,

Wonderful and surprising museum in Mexico City!
Museo Soumaya is a wonderful museum in Mexico City and I highly recommend a visit if you're in the city. The building itself is worth a visit for its architecture but the art collection is more than I expected. Paintings and sculptures from very well known artists including three pieces by Vincent van Gogh. I went on a Monday morning and had no wait to enter and there was no entrance fee.

A must see! Free admission. Paintings and sculptures by masters. You could see Da Vinci, Rodin, Diego, Monet, Dali etc under one roof. Beautiful building with 6 floors of cultural gems. Very well maintained with friendly but strict staff, better not go close to the art. Con: Only one. No descriptions or brochures in English. I could not read and understand descriptions as they were only in Spanish.

    It's a Little Overwhelming
There is so, so much art in here! And weirdly that's the problem. It's like three museums worth of art got mashed into one museum. Given that it's free and there's a lot of amazing work to see here from across continents and centuries, I shouldn't complain but I found it overwhelming and weirdly claustrophobic. My advice: go during the week and ground yourself in the idea that you're going to be seeing a huge amount of art without very much curation. And then go ... there's definitely something for everyone!

It’s a beautiful place, but we got the run-around from several employees about whether there was a restaurant. We were first told there was a restaurant, but it turned out to be available only for museum employees. We asked if there was a restaurant open to the public and were directed to the only restaurant they have, which is for employees only. This wasn’t a language issue, it was possibly a function of poor training.

We only had time for the European old masters, so no comment about the other collections, but besides a couple nice Botticellis and a some El Grecos, it was a B-grade collection. Recommended if you can walk, but not if you have to drive from Centro.

The Soumaya Museum is known to be a non-profit cultural institution that was founded in 11994. It has three venues in Mexico City. The first is Plaza Loreto, Plaza Carso and the Casa Museo Guillermo Tovar de Teresa. Its main task is to share some of its collections such as the "Carlos Slim Foundation" that offers more than 3 centuries of American and European art, in meeting spaces for all, that motivate reflection and dialogue in the Latin American cultural scene, through commitment and social action. It preserves, protects and investigates the art collection and promotes some temporary and itinerant national and international exhibitions of various kinds. This museum contains • Pre-Hispanic Pieces •Collection of medals, coins, banknotes of the largest viceroyalty.

An afternoon of culture in Mexico city. I went to the Soumaya museum where I would appreciate very nice and beautiful sculptures, specially the extensive collection of Rodin sculptures, paintings and ancient artefacts from Mexico and the world......!
The place, the museum itself, it is an impressive and architectural building with an excellent distribution and environment.

Mr Slim's visually stunning metal-clad monument simmers in natural and artificial light. Inspired by NYC's Guggenheim, the 5-story spiral floor plan allows visitors to to move easily from floor to floor. And while there is nothing original here that you will have seen in your Art History class, beautiful, full-scale reproductions of Michelangelo's David and the Pieta greet the visitor upon entrance. The collection includes many minor works from many important North American and European artists, including Degas, Monet, Cassatt, Grieco, as well as many derivative works from Central and South America. To see Diego Rivera and Frida Kahlo, visit The Palace of Bellas Artes as well as the casa Frida Kahlo. The top floor includes an exhibition of early cellular phone equipment, the font of Mr Slim's beneficence. Plan on two hours.

This is one of the museums donated by Carlos Slim. It is quite modern in design. In the entrance is a replica of Michelango's Pieta that is quite nice. The interior is very open and light and one winds up a ramp or stairs to each display area. There is also an elevator if needed. The two large ivory carvings on display are gorgeous. The room with timepieces was also interesting. There is a restaurant that smelled delicious and a gift shop.
