This museum is a little treasure. While most museums in Mexico City reflect the religiosity and turbulent history of Mexico, having a dated quality to them, Carillo Gill shines brightly with the art of the more immediate past and present. Its focus is modern and contemporary, offering a nice contrast to its peer institutions. We visited it after a visit to the Museo de Frida Kahlo and fine lunch in Coyoacàn. We had planned to walk, but I am glad we took a cab. It would have been a very long walk.

We suggest you tale the time to visit this museum. The art is first-rate and the facility is absolutely stunning.

I'm glad I made the trip! This museum isn"t easy to describe. It's four floors, each completely different. The beginning was lesser-known works by Rivera, Orozco and Siqueiros. (Have you seen Rivera's Cubist paintings? I hadn't! A very knowledgeable guide (I wonder if he was the curator or director?) showed me how to look at Siqueiros' paintings by walking around them in a semicircle. The other floors had contemporary installations that I thought were fascinating (I love contemporary art).

Outside, just south of the museum, is a very fun mural (printed on paper, so I'm not sure how long it will last). It's cartoon-style, ask in Spanish, following two recent university art graduates as they search Mexico City trying to become the city's most important contemporary artists. Spend ten minutes with this... it's hilarious! (Tip: If you don't speak Spanish use Google Lens in your phone to get instant translations.) I'll include a couple of photos.

Small museum in San angel neighborhood. They are currently having an exhibition of works by Sequerios, one of my favorite artists, and Orozco and Diego Rivera, so I found the visit very enjoyable. Paintings were “normal”size as opposed to all the murals we saw through Mexico by these artists Display was good. The San angel neighborhood is a great walking experience with higher end residential villas etc, some shopping. Very glad we went, but as pointed out by others, museum probably not worth a dedicated trip unless the exhibits at the time are of interest to you

This small and out-of-the-way, off-the-beaten-track was hard to find, and a long walk to boot. It's dedicated to the art of Gil, which is too austere for my taste, but I'm glad I went!

My wife and I stumbled upon this museum after leaving Museo Estudio de Diego Y Frida. The art they had exhibited was more modern, but still a delight to see. There was a lot to see, and the best part is that the museum is free on Sundays! It's worth checking out if you're in the area, or a fan of modern art (especially on a Sunday).

... the permanent collection was traveling! But we were tired of walking in San Angel, the building was good, and they suggested that we look at the temporary exhibit (we did) and all the catalogs. So we spent such a nice quiet time in the little library, with a delighted young man who kept bringing picture books of Orozco out, when he saw that we appreciated the collections. Check that the permanent collection is there and see it at the end of your strolling through San Angel.

This museum is located in lovely San Angel, a somewhat remote area of the city. I would not travel to San Angel just to see this contemporary art museum, but if you're there already, it would make for a pleasurable hour or so. Interesting ramped design in the interior.
