- SlowtravellerBalnarring, Australia6 contributionsGood hotel with a few minor defectsIn looks, this is one of most unique hotels I have stayed in: it has an expansive stained glass roof and ambience and an old world feel that is quite exquisite. The building was I believe an old department store once and you can sense its past opulence. When you arrive they also give you a ride in the James Bond lift and there is a small dining room at one side of the building where you can help yourself to drinks and dainties at any time of the day. The location is fantastic and close to many attractions. From the restaurant you also get a fantastic view of the Zocalo. There is a good breakfast and food at the restaurant is generally good. The staff are also keen to help with any problem. As this is not a cheap hotel, it is probably worth also mentioning some of the negatives as well. We had a double room facing the courtyard out the back. Nice comfortable room but outside was a very noisy air conditioning unit which was noisy enough to make us wear earplugs at night so we could get some sleep. This worked ok but not what we were expecting. Also at odd times with no windows open, we would smell a gasoline smell in the room. We were not sure what this was, whether it was just Mexico City pollution but we did not notice it in other parts of the hotel or outside and it seemed to go away when we put on the air conditioning. We cannot say whether this effected all rooms or just the room we were in. But overall a great stay but with these minor defects.Visited February 2024Traveled with familyWritten February 17, 2024
- scoozle33 contributionsMust see the lobby and ride the elevator! Drinks are HUGEWe went for a drink on our last evening in CDMX, which happened to be a Monday so was very quiet. No problems walking in and getting the lift up to the roof terrace. We ordered a margarita each and a flavoured water to try but beware the size of the drinks!! It was about 3 or 4 normal cocktails in one giant glass! Tasted ok, but seeing the building and the atmosphere on the roof terrace is what we were there for. Staff were all very polite and friendly. I would actually recommend going during daylight to see the ceiling in all its glory.Visited May 2024Traveled with familyWritten May 18, 2024
- Wendy W1 contributionWow! Loved the food, view and experienceSpectacular view of Zocalo square lit up at night with open air feel. Dress as you like for cocktails or a 5-course fine dining gourmet experience. We received the same attentive service for our romantic dinner as the friends who gathered for cocktails and the large family with little children. All are welcome. The tables are spread out far enough so we had our quiet experience while the family enjoyed theirs.Visited May 2024Traveled as a coupleWritten May 27, 2024
- Ariel1634Montevideo, Uruguay485 contributionsTraditional city hotelIt is worth entering the lobby to see the dome on the roof. Some incredible colors. If you can, go for lunch at La Terraza, from where you will have an impressive view of the Zocalo. What's more, there is a special space so they can get close to take photos and videos.Visited May 2024Traveled with familyWritten May 28, 2024
- nick cLondon, United Kingdom9 contributionsThe best place to stay in Mexico CityThe location is spectacular overlooking the Zagato with a view of thse cathedral. The interior art deco is magnificent. We had two meals in the restaurant which were first class and reasonably priced. It was our visit to Mexico City and the concierge was extremely helpful in helping us make the best of our 3 days in the City. Special thanks to Jose Luis, Cynthia and Emanuel.Visited May 2024Traveled as a coupleWritten June 9, 2024
- Ella_RMNew York City, New York369 contributionsOasis in cacophony of CDMXWe had a very enjoyable stay. Hotel lobby and ceiling are gorgeous, with many tourists popping in to take pics. But they are never obtrusive. Rooms are large and comfortable. Front desk is efficient and helpful. Guests have access to a 24 hr 'lounge' serving sweets and coffee/tea/water. Breakfast on the terrace has an incredible view of Zocalo, but it primarily serves a large selection Mexican hot 'breakfast' dishes (which is to say 'lunch' or 'dinner' dishes). Small selection of breakfast breads and fruits. There is an omelet station (which also cooks 'breakfast' tacos and enchiladas. Service is excellent. The hotel's location comes with two slight negatives - 1) the central area is incredible busy - think Times Square during Holidays...plus some . 2) it is a pedestrian zone, so taxi/Uber are at least 100m away. In fact Uber's indicated pickup/drop off spot is about 600 meters (3 blocks) away - you need to insist on being dropped off closer (ie 100 m), which drivers will do. Or drop a pin rather than hotel's name.Visited November 2024Traveled with familyWritten November 24, 2024

- bcsystemsAnn Arbor, Michigan5,402 contributionsLike a grand train stationThe lobby of this hotel is truly Gran. The stain glass, elevators, and iron work reminds me of a historic train station. We were able to go in as part of a walking tour. I'm not sure if you are not a guest staying there if they may or may not let you in.Visited January 2025Traveled as a coupleWritten January 25, 2025

Beautiful old hotel in the historic district of CDMX. The cupola is made by Tiffany, also the elevators and some other elements are made by them and are extremely beautiful. Worth a short visit when in the historic district. A part of a James Bond movie was turned here!

We stayed five days on this beautiful, royal and well-located hotel. We received what we paid for in quality, cleanliness, attention and most than anything else closeness to the most important sites of Mexican's capital.
We can see the Plaza de la ConstituciĂłn, Mexico's huge main zocalo, the Palacio Nacional, the Metropolitan Catedral and other colonial buildings.
We were close to numerous museums, including the Museo del Templo Mayor.
We got room services twice; the food was excellent.
We will return and highly recommend the Gran Hotel de la Ciudad de Mexico.

Our waiters Marcos and Christopher at Terraza restaurant were very attentive to our table and of course the floor captain Ignacio Rodriguez was incredibly attentive courteous and professional.. can't say enough about the view, the mixology and the breathtaking hotel interior! Highly recommend the restaurant!

A beautiful and traditional hotel in unbeatable location. Unfortunately, even in the Premium Room for more than 320€ / night it is only enough to look into the courtyard. Even more regrettable: Hotel guests become second class guests for breakfast. Instead of sitting on the breathtaking terrace, you are transported to the restaurant below for the benefit of buffet guests (for 20€!). These are not 5 stars

We have stayed here six times, and each time we have visited the service/facilities have just got better and better. The doormen, reception staff, waiters etc are very welcoming, efficient and helpful, obviously the building is absolutely beautiful. We had a lovely quiet room, kept extremely clean by Rocio. Buffet breakfast, included in our room rate was excellent, and the grill restaurant located on the terrace is well worth a visit. We will be back.

Our stay was excellent, starting with reservation process (thanks to Martha).
Everybody at the front desk (Rosa, Cynthia, Daniela as well as doormen) were knowledgeable and courteous.
The fears we had about the noise and disorders outside the hotel were mostly unfounded. The hotel is a charm of the old world and we enjoyed that very much. The room was spacious and the terrace on the roof made every meal enjoyable.
You can never be tired looking at Zocalo square and it’s majestic surroundings.

I've stayed here several times and it's always been a pleasant experience. The staff is great and the rooftop restaurant has the best views of the Zocalo (make sure to reserve your table!). The best part is always seeing the breathtaking stained-glass when you enter the lobby.

We stopped here for a quick look at the interior of the hotel. The 3 glass domes on the foyer ceiling are exquisite and worth a look. The street outside is closed to traffic and there were some talented opera singer buskers performing when we were there.

The inner courtyard is breathtakingly beautiful. We entered at night, so we didn't see the light shining through the ceiling, but even then it was gorgeous. We went out on the terrace for a meal, looking over the zocalo. Service was fantastic. We used the salad bar, which was super generous and lots of variety. I had the salmon, which was perfectly prepared. My partner had the portobello, which he was very happy with. We left very full, and we so enjoyed the view.

Location on the Zocalo was wonderful. Most of the sites we came to see were within walking distance. Our room looked out on the Zocalo which always had interesting events. The staff was extremely gracious and accommodating. Price was good for such a hotel as this. Highly recommend and would stay here again. One of the best hotel experiences I have ever had.
