tldr seems like we were socially profiled.
Our reservation was for 9:30pm on a Saturday night, we arrived on time and there were two empty tables. The waiter greeted us and was gesturing towards the seating beside the DJ booth. We didn’t want to sit near the DJ booth as it was too loud, so we asked to sit at one of the empty tables. The waiter said no because those were for parties of 3.
We understood and proceeded to sit at the bar. 5-10 minutes later, we look back and see both tables occupied by parties of 2. We were obviously not happy about this but still proceed to our our drinks.
By 10:15, our drinks still had not arrived. We thought it was maybe because they were understaffed but we counted three waiters. We therefore look at the two tables of parties of 2 (who for sure arrived after us), and they both had received their drinks. We walked out after not receiving our drinks as the wait had been so long by then.
Maybe I’m just salty from my experience but the bar also looked like a regular speakeasy. Have been to a bunch of speakeasy’s in Mexico City all with better service

To maintain the ambiance of a speakeasy, Xaman is difficult to find. Google maps will take you to a slightly sketchy-looking side street off the Paseo de La Reforma opposite the side entrance of the Marriott. A gated door blocks your entry; there are no signs or any indication that there is a bar one flight down the stairs. Best to make reservations for weekends and late in the evening, but we were early and able to get a table after a short wait. It is an intimate space, with a youthful international crowd. My husband and I were not the only gay couple (this is two blocks from the gayborhood) but my in-laws enjoyed the energetic vibe. The upbeat lounge music set the buzzy tone, with a DJ coming on later in the evening to pick up the pace.
The drinks were a bit weak for our taste so we switched to shots of mezcal (1oz at a time). They do specialize in a “birds nest” social drink, suspended from the ceiling, in which everyone at the table partakes, like a hookah. The guys at the table next to us were unable to tell us what it was besides sweet, and played a drinking version of spin the bottle with it.
The place has low-level lighting, the air is filled with the smell of incense and burning rosemary, and the music is loud enough to make conversation a challenge, but a great spot for a pre-dinner drink or nightcap.

Visited Xaman bar in CDMX in Jan 2020. Loved the hanging plants and the dark, cool vibe in the bar. Easy seating and service was great

It looks like a total dump from the outside, like you're walking into a parking garage to get shot but once you walk in, it's like you're in a hip cocktail party. The ambiance is on point as are the cocktails.

Whoaaaa WHAT A BAR!!! It’s a MUST when in Mexico City, absolutely AMAZING!!
It’s a small bar, but the concept of it is for all of the senses! If you’re into spiritual, mysticism THIS BAR IS THE BAR.

This bar is down a small ally and looks sketch at first but once you are inside it is awesome! They are playing chill music and great drinks! They also have a small smoke room which is awesome so you dont have to go outside. The staff was very friendly and accomodating! Would definitely go back when in Mexico City again!

My husband and I love to travel and explore the cocktails in every city. This place looked to be highly rated and it completely let us down. The service was severely lacking and when we followed the recommendations to let the “experts” make us a drink based o taste profile it couldn’t have been more off. And even better they still charged us for it. Save your money and check out somewhere in this diverse city that isn’t run by self-centered millennial who are too busy trying to chat up the girl at the bar rather then satisfy paying customers....

One of the best cocktail bars in the world. Many great options; owner is also very friendly. We tried a variety of drinks and they were all great. There is a sister bar to Xaman in the city as well.

Few would ever associate the word "hip" with my lifestyle but that is how I felt at the cocktail bar. It is not as difficult to find as some say. The address is over the stairwell leading to the bar. Inside is a dimly lit cocktail cave. I was there early and music was not loud yet. The cocktails were very good but very much style over substance. It was more about the art and presentation. They were lovely looking drinks but nothing awe inspiring about the flavors. I could see this being a more enjoyable experience with a large group or a date night.

Xaman is a really cool Bar, it's sort of hidden and it has a mysterious vibe.
The cocktails are very original and delicious, they all have very mexican ingredients.
My favourite was Pie Negro, with zapote!!
