As with many large cities in the world, there is a Chinatown area in Mexico City. There are plenty of shops and restaurants here and the street decorated with red lanterns. There is some seating in the street, which we rested at briefly while enjoying some incredibly cheap and tasty hot dogs which we bought from a hot dog cart nearby.

Nothing exciting. But I like to visit the different China towns in each large city. It is about 2 blocks south of the bella arte plaza. It is one block long and the street is closed off for pedestrians. Numerous restaurants lined the street offering fast food like bao or steamed bread filled with either sweet fillings ir meat. We did not eat, but they do have the specialty dish of bbq peking duck, which I love. The shops sells typical Chinese traditional medicines and herbs. Nothing amazing, but a sign of diversity of a large metropolitan city.

The barrio is just a two-blocks street with some Chinese restaurants and stores. It is closed to traffic so pedestrians can walk in the middle of the street. The Chinese arc is relatively small, and there are two white lions at the entrance. I went on a Sunday, so there were street vendors selling steamed Chinese buns, white and colored. If you are going to the Museo de Arte Popular, or the Mercado de la Ciudadela from the Bellas Artes Palace, you can pass by the Barrio Chino on your way.

We visited El Barrio Chino as we wanted to see how big it was in comparison to other cities. Primarily it only encompasses one long street with restaurants and souvenir shops on either side of the street. What I liked about it was the Chinese lanterns hanging all over the street. They looked really pretty from far away. We ate at a restaurant but I was disappointed with the food. The flavor was okay but it was just warm and not hot, even the rice was just warm. I'm glad we went just so I can cross it out of my bucket list.

Mexico City’s China Town has existed for 100 years but wasn’t a tourist attraction until the 2018 Chinese New Year celebration. It is very small, only a few block with really only one truly Chinese block filled with restaurants and shops. There are other restaurants and bars in the neighboring streets as Barrio Chino is only a block from Parque Alameda. Inexpensive souvenirs and nap buns (pan al vapor) can be purchased.

No matter where you go in the world, in almost every big city you will find a Chinatown , Mexico City is not different , but what makes this one aside it is that is all one single block with restaurants and shops.

It is a very small Chinatown. They offer Chinese food, fortune cookies, ice cream. I went to some stores, and people speak Spanish with Chinese accent. You actually can find ingredients to make Asian food such as vermicelli noodles, soy sauce, hoisin, etc.

Chinatown in Mexico City is really not impressive. It’s tired, the restaurants do not look enticing in the least and I don’t think I saw a single Chinese in the the area!
It falls into the “don’t bother category”
