This was a great and interesting fine in the town of Valenciana, just three miles north of Guanajuato. It has an interesting history to the Inquisition in 1692. A man by the name Ferdinand De Miera was appointed the Inquisitor of Guanajuato and he was a vile, greedy, dangerous & deceitful man charged with the responsibility of getting suspected criminals to confess to crimes like thievery & blasfamy. His power went to his head & he would torture these suspects to confess by using terrible torture devices from Europe. These devices are on display for you to see. What De Miera did to the bodes will make you cringe. The tour guide has passion when he describes the horror of De Miera’s ghastly deeds. Upon the discovery of De Miera’s deadly antics by the local people, they killed De Miera immediately without due process. This is a must see for those who want the truth about the justice system of the past.

It is very interesting to hear the story of the Inquisition in Mexico. Something one would not imagine that happened in Mexico and also that some of the torture instruments were still used in the past century!!

Interesting torture exhibition, the music, the ambience, everything goes according to the theme. The tour guy will make it both Spanish and English. he was always attentive. Brief tour, one hour at the most. Reasonable price. The surroundings are beautiful. The whole building is nice, beautiful gardens. The restrooms are clean. they have a little restaurant too. Across the museum there is a candy store. Very expensive candy.

A very unusual type of museum. It doesn’t take too long for the tour. It was worth the time and small entrance fee. The grounds are lovely.

The Inquisition was actually in Mexico as well and this museum documents the history with replicas and original instruments of torture including a dungeon. It is definitely a good way to spend an hour or so to learn of the history.

The tour was awesome, it was a perfect small sized group. The guide noticed I was a foreigner and first spoke in Spanish and then again, in English. He is very knowledgeable and well spoken. The artifacts were disturbing but the mood was kept light by the guide to reach all ages. It was interesting to learn about the history. The outside gardens are very beautiful, perfect place for a picnic. I would recommend visiting this museum along with the Mummy museum. A perfect spooky combination. Thanks Guanajuato!

This Guanajuato museum is an historic find. Our tour was lead by a docent of great knowledge, whose family once owned the hacienda at one time, he spoke English during our tour and told stories of horrible torture by a man from Spain who became the "Inquisitor". The man was Fernando Miera who was appointed inquisitor. Miera would interrogate suspects of crimes that ranged from thievery to blasphemy using imaginable horrible torture devices that are on display.

Miera became insatiably greedy, from the power of being an inquisitor, he was sadistic and realized he could become enriched by the estates of these suspects. Some of these suspects came to the area to start businesses and had seed money for those startups. Miera would torture the suspects until they died, dismember their bodies and drop the human remains down a concrete hole about twenty feet deep into an underground area filled with water. The local people eventually discovered what Miera was doing and killed him spontaneously without legal process. This is a remarkable and terrible tale of human horrors and man's inhumanity to man. Very educational, interesting and enlightening. See this museum, if you dare!

The hacienda and grounds are lovely, and the stories of the Spanish inquisition and their instruments of torture have a gruesome fascination. Holographic pictures add to the spookiness. Our guide spoke only Spanish, so it's wise to research or study up beforehand if you don't speak Spanish.

We had no idea it was a former torture chamber! Our guide spoke slow Spanish for us and we learned so much. Beautiful grounds on the outside and spooky as hell on the inside. Cheap, informative and fun.
