For just a few pennies you can ride the funicular from the back of Teatro Juárez to the Monument to El Pípila on the mountains overlooking Guanajuato. It is a brief but very entertaining ride. But the best part is watching the panoramic view of the picture postcard that is Guanajuato reveal itself. I would not recommend walking up to El Pípila, but the walk down is very pleasant passing through many charming alley streets.

It reminds me of the rumbling funiculars of Valparaiso in Chile but is probably more modern. You can walk up but unless you want to keep fit, this is a more relaxing way to enjoy the view. There's plenty of space to soak it in for an hour. You might catch a mariachi band hired by visiting groups!

Being on a bus tour meant we were taken to the top of the city where we walked to El Pipila Monument for the incredible view of Guanajuato. It truly is Mexico's most beautiful city. This funicular then took us down to the city right behind the Theatre and San Diego Church. This is the perfect way to see the city from the top without any effort and to get down as well.

We rode the funicular once while in Guanajuato but chose to walk the other times we went to the Pipila. You can't beat the price and certainly a must if you have difficulty walking.

Best view in Guanajuato, in my opinion. Starts about a block from Jardin de la Union and ends at La Pipila statue. Just a great place to hang out for awhile. Price is 36 pesos each way (up and down) - I rode up and walked down the stairs. If you like views, it's a must.
