I have attended almost all of the Spanish schools in Guanajuato over the past 10 years of coming to Guanajuato and really think Escuela Mexicana is the best one!!! My husband and I attended group classes for 3 weeks and really advanced a lot in our Spanish. The teachers were really excellent and class sizes were small. We were there for Dia De Los Muertos and Escuela Mexicana taught us how to make an altar along with all of its meaning.. including putting up photos of my deceased parents. We also made a tapete (made from colored sawdust) of the famous Diego mural. There were lots of other interesting activities all the time. But the best was learning Espanol.

The teachers at Escuela Mexicana are warm, friendly, skilled, engaging, and smart! Our family was at the school for 4 weeks. When I arrived, I knew very litle Spanish. By the time I left, I had learned present, past, and imperfect conjugations, a ton of vocabulary, and was able to carry on a conversation with other students in Spanish confidently. Others in our group were intermediate level, and they also felt they learned a lot - both in terms of grammar and vocabulary. I couldn't recommend the school enough! And from my daughter: Hi my name is Zora and I am 10 years old. I live in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and I was in the kids program at Escuela Mexicana. It was my first time in Mexico, and it was really fun. In guanajuato, i woke up and walked to school every morning at 10! Whoop whoop! And in the morning, all of the teachers were very nice. I especially liked the exange program. Kids from guanajuato come to escuela mexicana and they are learning english. We have to speak Spanish to them. There was this cute girl in the program who was 4 and it helped me alot with my Spanish. Escuela mexicana was definitely by far one of the best summers i have had. thanks for everything, zora

This was my first year going to Mexico with this trip and Escálala Mexicana. When we got there everyone was welcoming and excited for us to be there. I had not take a Spanish class sense primary school, so everything was new to me. The classes were tailored to where I was at so that I could learn the most. There were also the cultural classes that we took which were extremely engaging and hands on. Over all I learned a lot and was inspired to take on studying Spanish in hopes to go back next year.

As a Spanish teacher, my trip to La Escuela Mexicana five years ago with my own children has turned into a yearly three-week study abroad trip for 30-35 students each summer. I knew there was something special about the school and Guanajuato in the first few days of living there with my own children, who at the time were 11 and 13. They could easily navigate the walking streets on their own and within the first few days had made friends with local shop owners and neighbors, some who would allow my son to walk their dogs because he missed his own (we were there for two and a half months). The streets are filled with families, musicians, artists, school children, local vendors - all who make GTO vibrant and offer my children and students a rich cultural experience where they can immerse in the Spanish language. I was traveling without my husband at the time, but all my concerns for traveling alone melted away by the second day and I knew I was cared for by the staff at La Escuela if I needed anything. GTO is a pedestrian city, and the lack of cars make it safe for my children and students, and the walk-ability forces you to connect with the amazing people who live there. La Escueala Mexicana has gone above and beyond in helping me plan my yearly trip for students, which focuses on language study, cultural immersion, an exchange with students learning English at a local school, and volunteer work at a local orphanage and a dog refuge. For every detail - busing (which in all my years have never run late!), trips to museums, markets, theaters, musical tours, housing at the dorms (only a four minute walk away from the school, which includes a host family who cares for my students like their own children), helping with immediate health care for students, transportation to and from the airport, planning side trips (San Miguel de Allende for a weekend with horseback riding up the mountain), incorporating cultural classes (dance, cooking, candy making, crafts, music, pinatas, movies, and so much more), setting up volunteer hours, and providing classes for me to prepare for the upcoming school year - the staff at La Escuela Mexicana has never--ever-- let me down. Feedback from all parents and students over the years has been very positive. One hundred percent feel their child was safe while studying in GTO. Many students have returned to repeat this trip, some three times, and it is a joy to watch their Spanish fluency increase. I have even had families vacation there after seeing how much their child enjoyed their time in GTO. Students and chaperones have continued their studies through the school's live Skype classes and are building fluency quickly. The school helped every single student change their thinking as they broke down stereotypes about our neighbors - the staff is totally committed to teaching their students the true heart of the Mexican people as they teach 100 percent through Spanish immersion. I can't say enough about this school and the city. The staff over the years have become like family to me and they make learning Spanish fun and rich through their immersive programs that meet the levels and ages of all learners. My trip is open to all students interested in learning about a new culture, and for some, their first experience with the Spanish language is at the school, but this has never been a barrier. I have had students who study other languages in my district repeat this trip and their Spanish fluency seems to be increasing as quickly as it is in German, ASL, French, etc... Guanajuato is the cultural center of Mexico, offers endless possibilities to explore the rich Mexican culture - symphony, ballet folklorico, dozens of museums, hiking, foods from all over the world, street vendors, the roaming musicians, markets, movies, unique architecture, local art, daily parades, sports, etc… If you need a safe place to learn Spanish for your own children or to take students, La Escuela Mexicana is the place. I have done several other study abroad programs in my career, none can compare to the experience that La Escuela Mexicana offers my students. I know that they work tirelessly behind the scenes all school year to help me give the best experience to my students. If you are looking for a place to take your family or a group of students, reach out to the directors at La Escuela Mexicana, or even better, plan a trip to study there....and you'll get it.

I spent the last two weeks attending school at Escuela Mexicana in Guanajuato Mexico. What a wonderful experience!!!!! I had four different teachers and each one had a different but great teaching technique. I would recommend this school to anyone interested in learning Spanish. Whether you are a beginner like me or a pro at speaking Spanish and want to hone up on your skills this is the place for you. I can't say enough about the quality of all the teachers, staff , and their all around professionalism. I definitely plan to return for more classes.
