Inside the carved wooden altars are gilded with gold leaf and possibly the most elaborate example in Mecico. The pulpit is lavishly encrusted with ivory and precious hardwoods and magnificent paintings depicting scenes from the Bible adorn the walls. The exterior made of pink stone and the front facade is a mixture of the finest stone carvings.

Old, interesting but unfortunately nothing rings a bell (pun intended). Its hard not to appreciate the work and especially the day in which it was done.

Just a short drive from Guanajuato and worth the drive. Very historic and good example of Christian Churches in that area.

Caught a bus up the hill to this well-known church built in the gold days of Guanajuato. While small, the level of detail and sparkle is well worth to trip.

Incredible altar done with gold leaf. Very ornate carvings line the interior walls of the church. The church was completed in 1788 and sponsored by the owners of La Valencina mine.

Impressive golden altars. This is a beautiful church not to be missed. And the views of Guanajuato from the hillside are stunning. There are not a lot of places to park here, so it is best to taxi from town. The church is close by the La Valenciana mine and can be visited at the same time. Interesting history.

Similar to the other churches in Mexico built during the Spanish colonization of Mexico, this church exhibits intricate designs inside and out. With its attractive pink/reddish hue, it is so attractive and stands tall uphill. The altar is gilded in gold!

Don't think I've ever seen as much gold leaf in one place, sometimes over intricate woodcarving. Outside, a panorama of the city and old cactuses with people's names carved in them.
