My wife and I loved this museum. Imagine, an entire museum dedicated to the mythical exploits of a fictional character. This might seem absurd, but then you visit the museum and the genius of the place reveals itself. The many galleries contain lovely works of art depicting the improbable events in the lives of Don Quixote and Sancho Panza, and scholarly books about the author, Don Miguel de Cervantes, and his world-famous book. My wife and I loved this place. In fact, we visited twice in our five-day stay.

I visited here many years ago and found it interesting but it mainly held editions of the books. The museum has expanded its focus and now has murals, more sculptures, paintings etc all reflecting some aspect of The Quijote. Love it.

To be real, I didn't exactly know who Don Quixote was before this. I had googled the name once, because of the Japanese department store and I looked briefly a very long Wikipedia page to know that it was something to do with a book and then instantly forgot anything else about it. The museum is very interesting though and the guy who started the museum is my idol. His story is very interesting and I want to be like him. He went to jail during the Spanish civil war and someone traded the book for his pack of cigarettes and then he just became obsessed and bought so many Don Quixote related artworks and started commissioning famous Mexican artists to make Don Quixote art. Some art in the museum though does not seem Don Quixote related but they were also very good and nice and also they were only finished this year and were not even fully dry which is crazy.

A museum dedicated to a fictional character will seem strange to some, but this collection is really interesting. There are works from many eras, all celebrating Don Quixote. It's a small, modest museum but interesting nevertheless.

We were amazed at the high quality and diversity of art work related to Quixote and what Cervantes used him to represent. And also the story of the man who was inspired by Quixote from a refugee camp to create the collection and museum as a lifetime passion. A gem waiting to be discovered!
