    A Wonderful Museum
This museum was the childhood home of one of the greatest Mexican muralists, Diego Rivera. It is worth the very modest price of admission just to see the house, the place where artistic genius was nurtured. But then, you also get to see the art of this amazing artist as it is displayed quite naturally in his early environment. While in Guanajuato, you must make time to see this charming museum.

Good spot to begin learning about Rivera
As we lived in Mexico City (in Coyoacan), we knew a lot about Diego Rivera and had seen a lot of his work. However, we are glad we visited this small museum, which is his birthplace. Our favorite art works were illustrations Rivera had done showing the creation story of the Mayan people. There is not much here, so don’t come expecting rooms and rooms of great art. But what there is shows a different side of Rivera than what one gets in Mexico City.

    Must go place in Guanajuato
A must go place in Guanajuato where you can see and feel the history of this genius and his talent. Our guide was very knowledgeable of the Master’s history. Very interesting collection of Diegos prolific work in the house where he grew up. Dont miss it, just go there. Recomended.

    Hidden gem
This is a fabulous hidden gem in the center of Guanajuato. Incredible collection of Rivera and other artists' work, housed in a beautiful space that incorporates the home into which he was born. Well worth an hour while exploring the city.

    Excellent for Appreciating Diego's Diversity
As this small museum built around his childhood home cannot hold the large murals for which he is famous, it is still a great place to see the works of his earlier years, showing a mastery of many diverse styles ranging from Picasso to Winslow Homer. He even did a stint transcribing archaeological artworks to printable form which perfectly matches the spirit of the old Aztec codices. We no longer think of him as merely the pioneer of grand Socialist Realism which appealed so much to the post-war Soviets.

    Small museum
This museum's highlight is getting to see Rivera's childhood home and the evolution he went through by seeing his early paintings and drawings. It could be a bit lengthy to see all his early collections as this is a 4 story house. The bottom part is the original house, the rest of the floors house his early work with a few rooms (about 3) showcasing other artists work on rotation.

One of the key art museums of Mexico
This museum has an excellent expose of the works of Diego Rivera, but does not have such a high profile to overseas visitors. Perhaps if it was located in Mexico City, it would be visited more. In my opinion, this museum is comparable, if not better then the Frida Kahlo museum in Mexico City, although this is also dependent upon one's tastes. This museum also has some great biographic information which includes works painted by Diego when he was still quite young, which display his immense natural talent. Note that photography is not permitted, except in the courtyards. You will receive more value from your visit with the assistance of a guide.

    For hard core fans only
As important as it is to preserve the history of this remarkable artist, and the house in which he lived, the early artwork on display here is a little underwhelming when compared to the mural artwork on display in Mexico City. If you miss it, don’t lose sleep over it.

    Pleasant Surprise
With only average expections on our part, the Diego Rivera museum turned out to be a delightful experience. The combination of the preservation of Rivera's upper class home near the center of Guanajuato along with a good collection of his work is worth a visit. In addition, at the time of our trip, the works of two contemporary and provocative Mexican artists who were also featured were every bit as fascinating as those of Rivera. The museum is low-key, uncrowded and quite interesting.

Why all the fuss about Diego Rivera?
Well, if you go to this museum, you'll find out. 1. He was incredibly prolific and 2) Over the years, his painting style changed dramatically, but his technique was always masterful. There are paintings by other artists there as well, but his seem imbued with a life and vibrancy that others lack. Also nice to see the furnishings in the house he grew up in.

The Diego Rivera museum is a great mix of period furniture and art. The rooms walk you through the significant periods of Rivera’s work and provide very good insight into his life through his art. I wish they would have shown photos of some of the finished murals the sketches were done for. I really enjoyed this small, intimate museum.

Hearing it was a small museum, we thought we would zoom through in a few minutes. No way...it was so interesting and the visiting exhibition of photographs of Latin musicians was so fantastic, we spent well over an hour musing over the installations. I look forward to returning to Guanajuato and this fascinating museum.

I spent a very enjoyable hour wandering through this museum. As well as extensive art works by Diego Rivera, you also get a profound insight into his formative years when he lived here with his family until the age of six.
