Melchor is a wonderful guide. We were directed to him by our hotel concierge and eventually hired Melchor for two days. He is wonderful. We hit the highlights of Guadalajara plus out of the way places and met people he's known for years. He simply knows everything and everyone! Restaurants were fabulous. Food recommendations wonderful. Shopping a breeze since he also knows the best shops. As a matter of fact, he's the person people go to when furnishing their homes with authentic Mexican furniture, handicrafts and marble/tile! Awesome contacts. On top of his knowledge of Guadalajara he's a fun person to be around and was very sensitive to our wants, needs and schedule. Great two days! Mobile phone: (33)14-11-39-17 and no, we're not related but wish we were even after only 2 days!

Despite a number of trips to Mexico, we have been cautious about digging too deeply into the cuisine. We decided to throw caution to the wind and take part in this tour. We are very happy that we did.
Our guide, Cesar, was great! He was informative, friendly and kind. He is clearly proud of his city and enjoys meeting people from different countries. He led us from location to location in the vicinity of the historic squares. We started with a margarita and ended with a nice coffee sample. In between we had drinks and tasters in 4 restaurants (making it 6 stops in total). We were given some Mexican candy and a tasting map with discount coupons and information about other restaurants and shopping in the area.
On this tour, we tried for the first time: tortas ahogadas (yes!), pozole, carnes en su jugo, enchiladas con catija queso (a salty cheese that reminded me of feta), and some interesting drinks: jamaca, hortchata and fruit water (I missed what it was called). (My apologies if my spelling is off).
Oh I should mention - Cesar (and the restaurants) were great about accommodating vegetarians and offering alternate items to sample.
One of the highlights: Cesar led us to the roof deck of a hotel overlooking the Plaza de Armas (I think it was called One Guadalajara) where he pointed out the historic buildings, explained their significance and offered to take photos.
There were six of us in total on the tour. We enjoyed chatting with the family of four we toured with, and I really appreciated the opportunity to ask Cesar many questions about his city as we walked from restaurant to restaurant.
A fun and educational day - highly recommended especially for first time visitors to GDL.

Tour covered some of the key meals for Guadalajara/Jalisco/Mexico like torta ahogada, carne en su jugo or typical desert (don't remember the name...). Guide was very nice and gave us a little story about the places where we ate and meals that we had. Little bonus to this tour was that it was merged with a small "centro historico" tour as our guide told us some stories about some places in the centro historico and brought us to a terrace with a great view to the Cathedral. Another bonus is that it is a half day tour located in the historical center and near Mercado Libertad (San Juan de Dios) so you can easily merge it with a sight seeing or little shopping and have a pleasant day in Guad.

Cesar cancelled our tour due to a COVID lockdown in Guadalajara. That's understandable. The problem is the phone number provided in our confirmation was for a tour operator in a different state of Mexico who says he has nothing to do with the GDL food tour. Cesar would not respond to our multiple emails and phone calls for a refund. Unfortuntately we will need to dispute with American Express. If you're willing to take this risk, the tour otherwise looks great. It's a shame he holds on to your money when he shouldn't. We cannot recommend.

If you have ever eaten Mexican food before, you can skip this tour. On our trip, we ate: a jericalla (Mexican custard), half a torta ahogada, horchata, a small bowl of carne en su jugo, one enchilada, a bowl of sopa azteca, and a cocktail (I forget the name but it was similar to a mojito). The food was ok. Nothing amazing or different than you can get at any Mexican restaurant in the US. Additionally, my we were the only 2 people on the tour this day. So, it was a little awkward making small talk and just having the tour guide watch us eat. Oh, and most of the restaurants are located near each other with the exception of the last stop where you get the cocktail. This place was pretty far from the others (felt like almost a mile) and the drink wasn't anything to write home about either. I would suggest skipping the last stop otherwise you end up having to trek it all the way back to the plaza or having to pay for a taxi. Or just save your money and treat yourself to eating at multiple places on your own.

Our food tour of Guadalajara was an absolutely exceptional experience. Jesus was an incredibly knowledgable and interesting guide. My entire group felt that he tailored our experience to meet our individual interests. The food was outstanding, but the real gem was our guide. Jesus was top of the line. I would highly recommend this tour to anybody interested in the food, history and culture of the beautiful city of Guadalajara. My only regret is that this was the first thing we did when we arrived in the city and all other activites have failed to measure up. DO THIS TOUR!!

You could learn anything from history of a place to the nitty gritty of a food dish on this tour. We were shown the many historical parts of the city alongside traditional regional dishes. This food tour is an excellent mix of walking, dish portion sizes, and exploring features of the city. The local guide was very respectful of our food allergies (we had a lactose intolerant person), and enjoyed sharing cultural aspects of his city. I would recommend doing this tour at the beginning of your stay, because it gives you a great lay of the land and introduction to Guadalajara.

The foodtour in Guadalajara was excellent. I've never had a better experience. The food is delicious and well chosen in order to get a perfect overview of the Mexican dishes. Cesar was a great guy, he knows a lot and is open for any questions. I can recommend this tour/company to everyone who is visiting Guadalajara.

I do not eat beef or pork. Would this still be a good tour for me? I love chicken and seafood.
