Wow!

When I rounded the corner and saw this church I felt as if I had been transported to medieval Europe. Just gorgeous inside and out. Most reviews will mention the mechanical clock but for me, the best parts of this church were the soaring vaulted ceilings, stained glass windows and the spiral chandeliers.

If you are waiting for the mechanical clock performance, there are some great Mexican style ice cream shops across the street to sample!

Faithful were praying
Mar 2021 • Solo
I came here on a monday evening. It was almost empty except for a small group of locals who were praying and singing near the front. I did not want to intrude or be disrespectful so I only took a few pictures. The architecture is striking however and the spire is beautifully decorated with stained glass. It is very different from the main cathedral and, to me, seems more authentic and worth a second visit.

Nice cathedral -really a don’t miss!

Beautiful neo-gothic cathedral. Reputably the best example in Mexico. It’s a pleasant walk from the cathedral Guadalajara. Lovely square in front. Even though it says closed on Saturday, it was open to look in.

Stunning
Feb 2020 • Friends
This is an absolutely stunning church. The kind that could take your breath away as you walk through. During the day or during the night it is just as beautiful. At the top of every hour, there is a showing of mini statues of the 12 disciples to music/bells ringing. The statues rotate out of tiny doors under one of the church windows.

In the evenings I saw some great street food at the back of the church as well.

Impressive building

Lovely 1km stroll along one of Guadalajara's main boulevards from the Cathedral to Templo Expiatorio (you may want to get a bus if you're tired though). Got there at sundown, when the golden hour light falls perfectly over the impressive facade. Shortly after dark the church is illuminated by subtle lights, giving it a mysterious aura. Vendors flock around the square, although there are no places for quiet introspect.

Sunday Night at the Parque Expiatory
Jan 2020
Yes - the cathedral is amazing. The doors are open and you can wander in and see this amazing "temple". And the Parque (better described as a plaza or square) in front of the temple is fabulous. Not sure how many nights a week, but definitely on Sunday nights the square and the surrounding streets are full of street vendors, street food, music, dancing and families enjoying the festivities. There is a restaurant overlooking the square (Tertulia) that has wonderful food and a great view of the cathedral and all the activities in the square. We enjoyed it very much.

Impressive cathedral
Jan 2020 • Couples
We weren't feeling very well on the day we came to Guadalajara, but we did manage to make the short walk from our accommodation to see Templo Expiatorio del Santísimo Sacramento and we thought it was a worthwhile place to visit.
It is a beautiful cathedral that is nicely light up at night. It has a beautiful interior with statues such as one of Pope John Paul II lining the walls.

Stunning historical architecture
Jul 2019
We were walking by one evening and came upon this beautiful historic building. Absolutely beautiful. Unfortunately, we didn't get a chance to explore inside, as it was already closed but its lights against the night sky made for some great photos.

Amazing church

This is a gorgeous church with tons of history. Dedicated to the Blessed Sacrament. I felt such peace being inside with gorgeous stained glass windows. Construction took 75 years. A must see.
