Beautiful neo-gothic cathedral. Reputably the best example in Mexico. It’s a pleasant walk from the cathedral Guadalajara. Lovely square in front. Even though it says closed on Saturday, it was open to look in.

This is an absolutely stunning church. The kind that could take your breath away as you walk through. During the day or during the night it is just as beautiful. At the top of every hour, there is a showing of mini statues of the 12 disciples to music/bells ringing. The statues rotate out of tiny doors under one of the church windows. In the evenings I saw some great street food at the back of the church as well.

Lovely 1km stroll along one of Guadalajara's main boulevards from the Cathedral to Templo Expiatorio (you may want to get a bus if you're tired though). Got there at sundown, when the golden hour light falls perfectly over the impressive facade. Shortly after dark the church is illuminated by subtle lights, giving it a mysterious aura. Vendors flock around the square, although there are no places for quiet introspect.

Yes - the cathedral is amazing. The doors are open and you can wander in and see this amazing "temple". And the Parque (better described as a plaza or square) in front of the temple is fabulous. Not sure how many nights a week, but definitely on Sunday nights the square and the surrounding streets are full of street vendors, street food, music, dancing and families enjoying the festivities. There is a restaurant overlooking the square (Tertulia) that has wonderful food and a great view of the cathedral and all the activities in the square. We enjoyed it very much.
