Friday 13th April and we visited San Sebastian del Oeste as part of Vallarta Adventures cultural tour, Pueblos Magicos tour and one of the highlights was a visit to this Church in the centre of the Town, with the Square nearby. This is a beautiful Church, with its high arched ornately decorated ceiling. At the far end of the church is the impressive altar with the ceiling frescos above it and yards of fabric draped around. Definitely striking. It was a tranquil refuge and a place to sit with your thoughts, memories or whatever else this sacred place inspires. Well worth a visit. I

Took the tour of San Sebastian on Jan 29 2018. First stop was a home Tequila factory then on to town for lunch. After lunch we toured the town and stopped at this glorious church built in the 1600's. Our guide told us of the history and allowed us to tour inside the church. On the top of the church there is a cannon protruding from it. We were told they ran out of material for water drainage and the cannon worked perfect as a drainage spout. This tour is a must to get the feel of Mexico and how they live.

Arranged this trip to see a old Mexican town when time stood still. Travelled with Vallarta Adventures via tour rep from hotel. Air conditioned vehicle however it was still hot. Visited a tequilla distillary which the owner had made himself and now sold his goods to the public. Again we had to accept a 8 shot tequilla challenge. Beautiful home and surroundings around distillary. Alot of walking around the old town with buildings going back hundreds of years. There used to be only 600 inhabitents so many families still live in their old ancestory homes. Our tour guide Almando was very knowledgeable and was assisted by our driver Valentino - visited one of the oldest homes where a lady called 'Mary' had lived until she died a couple of years ago at the age of 90. She had 21 children herself, 62 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren. She was well known for growing coffee and fruit trees. We sampled traditional coffee and had chance to buy various types of coffee, flavoured coffee beans - lunch was in a typical mexico open air restaurant with four courses. Very enjoyable eating the old typical meal and desert. Loved the sugared tortillers . Most enjoyable day with knowledgeable guides.

The church, dedicated to San Sebastian, was originally built in the 1600s but was rebuilt after an earthquake in 1868. Cobblestone streets in the town, the church is located near the city square and is very nice to see.

If you want a piece of history you should visit San Sebastian in Mexico. You can book this tour through Puerto Vallarta Adventure Tours. The trip you will take stops at a Coffee Bean Farm, an original Hacienda, and a Tequila home operation. You will continue on to have a home made lunch at San Sebastian and a tour of the city. The church is breath taking and beautiful. Your tour guides will provide you with the history of the three original families and you will meet an original ancestor who still lives in the village. Well worth the money, and Edwardo was our tour guide who impressed our group with his banter, humor, and extensive knowledge of the history of San Sebastian. You will be gone for the whole day, and you will see the real Mexico.
