3 amigas went to cooking class
monica welcomed us into her outdoor kitchen where we learned to make mole. she had all the ingredients set out for us to see, while she gave us a brief history of mole and where it’s from. monica took us through all the steps of making an absolutely phenomenal sauce. all of us thoroughly enjoyed the experience.

Authentic Mexican cooking passed down from grandmother to granddaughter
Monica's cooking class was a delight from start to finish, with tips and tales shared from time she spent in her grandmother's kitchen adding to the "flavor" of the experience. Our family group of six enjoyed Monica's demonstration of how to make chilaquiles and two kinds of tortilla soup on her charming patio. We dined on authentic food and came away committed to making the foundational red and green sauces the way Monica taught us. I can't think of a better way to to experience true Mexican cuisine. This is a must do experience!

A wonderful culinary adventure from start to finish!
On 2/5/20 last we, my wife and I and another couple were treated to a tour of some of Monica’s favorite food vendor in downtown Zihuatanejo. We learned about chocolate, coffee and mezcal, ate street tacos, and selected the best fresh ingredients for the 3 lunch dishes that she later cooked for our class (Peruvian beans with chorizo, nopales/cactus salad and squash blossom soup.) Her instructions were clear and we were each given a pamphlet containing the recipes. The tilted mirror over the 3 cooking pottery pots gave us all a clear view of the colorful dishes. We all would give Monica and her son five stars out of 5 stars for this cooking adventure.

Amazing experience - take the trip to the market
This cooking class was fantastic, and an amazing value for the price. Monica and her assistants are friendly, knowledgeable and professional. The trip to the market was really special. My husband and I wandered around the municipal market before, but we didn't even know the tiny farmer's market existed, and it was great! We got to try a bunch of things, at the market, and enroute. The cooking portion was fantastic, and the food delicious.

Chile Relleno Five Ways!
Last week I had the privilege of attending one of Monica's cooking classes and it was fantastic. There was just the right amount of her demonstrating/cooking, and participants helping. We learned about different types of chiles, how to work with them, and how to enjoy them! She is a true professional and really enjoys teaching others her craft. I can't recommend this class enough!

Amazing experience
We had such an amazing time with Monica. We started off by doing a tour of the market— they had us sampling so many different types of foods and show us the typical cuisines.
We then cooked the fresh fish that we bought at the market and made ceviche, tritas and fish tacos.
She is an excellent cook and very hospitable.
Will do this again when we come back to Zihua!
Gracies 🤓

Mexican cooking class
Just spent the morning with Monica and her boys at the market and fish cooking class, it was excellent.
A great way to get immersed in the Mexican culture, and try some foods you may not usually eat and visit an area you may not always venture on your own.
Try it, you will not be disappointed.

One of the best things you can do in Zihuatanejo
This was our second time attending one of Monica's cooking classes. The first time was three years ago when we learned to make two kinds of tortilla soup and chilaquiles (all delicious). This time, we learned the complex art of making mole. Monica is a wonderful teacher, kind, funny, and communicative, and it's very homey to be learning her recipes in her own backyard. The food you end up making under her professional eye is wonderful and the atmosphere as a whole is great.

Most activities in Zihuatanejo you're better off figuring out for yourself instead of booking an excursion or tour. Monica is the exception. If you only book one activity, make it a cooking class with Monica.

Personal Service with Monica
This was the only activity I booked before we arrived to Ixtapa-Zihuatanejo. I read about it in West Jet Magazine. It was so cool. Before we arrived Monica kept in touch with me via email. The day of the class, she received ya with a great smile. Our first stop was the coffee shop, where we got to taste some expreso and some Mezcal. Available for purchase as well. We proceeded to the market, where we got to see how the locals shop. I am from Ecuador, so I was reminiscing about it. Fish availability was low due to the pier being closed because of the recent Tropical Storm Lorena. Monica was able to find a substitute fish from the one she had planned to use. While walking around she gave us some history tips of Zihuatanejo.

When we got back to her kitchen, which is very rustic and quaint. We got down to business right away. We made tuna tacos with gustillo sauce. Tiritas and also ceviche with a fish I can’t remember the name. All three dishes were really tasty.

It was just my husband and I as September is low season for tourism. So it was a bit more money, but I highly recommend doing it like this. It was a personal cooking class and totally worth it. Monica is a super lady and a very traditional cook.
