What a great time! I felt like previously, I kept having a lot of food failures but this definitely made for a happy me! We arrived a bit early and were promptly greeted by Alice, our host for the evening.
Let me preface this by saying, if you are looking for a shot throwing turn up, this is NOT for you. HOWEVER, if you enjoy food food (like most do) and an artisan pairing, this is the spot for you.
During the tequila and food pairing, there is a serious deep dive into what tequila is, where it originated and how and why certain foods pair so well. Our host Alice, was so excited as she shared all of her knowledge of tequila. As a chef herself, she understands the complexity of food flavors and how powerful the right touch of tequila can bring. Swish and swirl. Swirl and swish. Smell the body and the aromas - what a pleasure it was!
We had an artisan tequila, Arette was the chosen brand, and it was a four-course spread paired with some absolutely delicious tequila. We enjoyed jaw dropping ceviche with green apple and basil oil (yummers!). Next course was tortilla soup which was so good I asked for another cup of just broth. The third course was the chicken mole. Hearing how in depth this sauce is made and the variations and then experiencing it with the tequila and its delicious smokiness. Ummm ummmm ummmm! The fourth course was FLAN! I’m not a flan fan but I took one to go. And the tequila that was paired with it? Lawdddddddd it went down smooth and with a warmth that will give you something special on the chilliest day.
What I also appreciated was how intimate the scene was and how Corinna made it a point to keep social distancing at the forefront. I thoroughly enjoyed my experience and when we are blessed with the opportunity to return to PVR, the chocolate and tequila pairing (YES, you read that right lol!) is on deck! Disfruten y buen provecho!
