This is a beautiful church both inside and out. It is worth walking in to walk around and look at the beautiful detail. This is a working church still so there may be people inside paying respects (as they were when we were there) so keep noise levels low and respect their time as well. We were in and out in only a few minutes. They did ask for donations for the church when we walked in so we put a few pesos in the container as well.

This is a lovely church........truly the heart of Puerto Vallarta. The church is located a short distance from the waterfront and a block from the plaza.
It was a Sunday when we were there and services were being held; so we just stood just inside the front door as not to disturb the service. This is a must see if you are ever in Puerto Vallarta.

This church dominates the skyline of old downtown PV. We visited on New Year's Day 2022.
We are not Catholic, but enjoy viewing the architecture and learning about the history of such buildings. In front of the church is a beautiful and shaded plaza. The church we see now is nt the original church built on this location. The first church was built in 1883.
For the church we see now, the existing foundations were strengthened and finished by 1917, including the main pillars and walls. Construction really began in earnest in the early 1920s around the still functioning chapel, including the blessing of the Eucharistic or the major bell in 1926. The official start date, celebrated at the church each year with a mass, is October 12, 1921.
To “crown” the Parish, what better than a crown. It was built in 1963 and placed on the main tower in 1965 (based on the city historian, Carlos Munguía Fregoso). It was sketched by the priest Rafael Parra Castillo, the same person who designed the tower. The original crown was designed and sculpted by José Esteban Ramírez Guareño in 1965.
We entered the church to stand in awe of the interior, then walked around the outside where church members were selling mementos, books and rosaries. Anyone who visits the old downtown area will surely want to see this fantastic building regardless of religion.

I visited this beautiful old church in Puerto Vallarta during outlast trip in Jan '20 and found about 40-50 visitors. It is about5 blocks inland from the Malecon near old PVR. There is no admission fee but there is a jar for donations to keep the church in nice condition.

Thursday 3rd February we were sightseeing in Puerto Vallarta and no visit to the City is complete without a visit to this magnificent Church, it should be top of the list.
It is located in the Centro area of the City, across from the main Plaza. As we approached the Church along Independencia, we were very aware of the Church with it's impressive tower dominating the skyline.
The magnificent tower is topped with a most distinctive sculpted crown. It stands directly over the main entrance to the Church and is flanked on either side by two small bell towers.
We climbed the steps up to the entrance and as we entered the most striking feature that greeted us was the ornate golden altar in its arched recess at the back of the Church. Not overly ornate but still beautiful, adorned with statues, a golden tabernacle, a crucifix topped with a painting of the Virgin Mary.
The main altar is flanked on either side by a smaller, not as grand or ornate, altars.
There is a circular domed part of the roof, in front and above the altar, where sunlight floods through, the many arched windows, illuminating the Church below.
Everywhere we looked there was something to catch our attention, a statue, a coloured glass window, a painting of religious images, an absolute treat for the eyes
As we exited, on the steps of the Church were some Nuns selling religious souvenirs.

Our cruise ship, the Majestic Princess, docked in Puerto Vallarta the day after Christmas. The first thing my husband and I did was to take a taxi from the dock to visit this amazing church. This was our fourth time here. The ornate crown topping the bell and clock tower can be seen from a distance. It was the day after Christmas, and the church was decorated in incredible finery. Flanking the painting of the Virgin of Guadalupe on the main altar was a poinsettia themed draped fabric. Dozens of potted poinsettias adorned the altar. There was a nativity display in the patio area on the left side of the church. To the left of the altar were three wise men statues. The front of this church is festooned with colorful and lacy pennants. Vendors on the steps were selling small religious items.

We arrived in PV via a cruise ship and took a cab to the Malecon. We continued past the Malecon into Old Vallarta when we came across Our Lady of Guadalupe Church. It was Sunday and we arrived in the middle of noon mass so we just stood in the back and tried not to be too conspicuous. I could see the Main Altar and many of the artifacts and would love to have spent more time and will next time we are in PV. I recommend a visit and perhaps a Mass if you are here during Mass time.

We visited on a Sunday morning initially and it was absolutely packed with people attending A service and so we returned later to look around inside. It is really stunning with a beautiful alter and stained glass windows. Donations are being requested for renovating some of the church buildings

This place is a must if you want to see something breathtaking. In the morning the sun hits the steeple in such a way that the crown has an aura and the cross on the crown glows. It looks like heaven came for a visit.

How to get from Princess cruise port pier to The Church of Our Lady of Guadalupe?

It's a short distance to the south. Here's what I would do if I were you. I'd get out on the pier, find my bearings and walk out to the main street. I'd find a place where a uber driver can pull over to pick you up and I'd grab an uber, The main street drag is a very busy and ubers are plentiful and very reasonable. (down load the app and set everything up before your trip if you have not done so) I'm guessing about 4-5 USD. A bus, they are super cheap and there's tones of them, can take you but you'll need to know where you need to get off. (problematic unless you know your way around the town and what bus to get onto. If you're interested look for a bus going to "Centro" and when you return look for one that says "wal-Mart") After you've finished visiting The Church of Our Lady of Guadalupe, I'll recommend that you walk the 1 block to the west (its a very short block) and stroll along the Malecon in either direction. there's so much to see. It's very pretty. You can grab a bite to eat or have an adult beverage and relax for a few minutes before hailing a Uber to take you back. Don't for get your camera and sun screen as there is not a lot of shade on the Malecon. apologies for my slow reply. Enjoy your trip!
