I went out with PV Sportfishing on a private charter for 8 hours. We ended up catching about 30 fish (needle nose, bonita, and Jack Cravelle) we lost a rooster but all in all a good day out. Travis and Albert knew where the fish had been biting and made every effort to snatch a fish. Both guys were very welcoming and personable. I went out on My Marlin and would do it again. I come down to PV about 4 times a year and fish each time and this was the by far the most success I have had.

Chartered the 29' Panga with Capt Scooby and "Chicken" in search of Rooster fish. Unfortunately, we struck out on the Roosters with only one hookup that may have been what we were looking for, but it came off pretty quick. With that being said, we did catch more Cero and Spanish Mackerel than I could count. We basically had tight lines 80 percent of my time on the water with many times having 3 or 4 fish on. Throw in another 3 or 4 large Jack Crevalle to round out the trip. Capt Scooby had a nice selection of live bait for the larger fish and we also caught fish casting and trolling lures. Both the Captain and First Mate worked hard to keep us on fish and the lines baited. The reason for 4 stars instead of five was that Capt Scooby pointed to a spot that we should try and asked if I could help with more gas money, we would go. I asked how much and he said $50.00 US. I was a little put off by this as I believe I chartered the boat for a certain amount of time, not a certain amount of "distance". All in all, I would highly recommend Captain Scooby as he definitely knows how to find fish, runs a clean boat and is a lot of fun to fish with

Response from PV S, Manager at PV Sportfishing

Thanks for taking the time to write such a great review we really appreciate it. Im glad you guys had a good day and caught alot of fish. All of our trips have specific distance they go depending on the amount of hours which is explained on our charter page if captain Scooby took you out further then a normal 6 hr day that means he gave you guys the distance of a 8 hour day at a big discount. So I think you should give him that extra star. Thanks again for fishing with us and taking the time to write a review have great day.

We went on a 4 hour trip with Captain Scooby we caught some mackerel & Bonita on our way out of the marina, and literally within the first 2 hours of our trip we caught a Mahi-Mahi & had hooked 2 sailfish at the SAME time, my fiance and I were both reeling in our sailfish together. It was an awesome experience, scooby & chicken showed us a great day on the water. Had a cooler of ice to put our drinks & food in. And gave us the option to play our own music on the boat. Plus when we were waiting in a different area at the marina they found us and we’re ready for us at 7.

A bit of background - I have been on many charters up and down the west coast. I am a 6pack captain that used to live on a 45’ Bayliner in Seattle and chartered my 28’ apollo for Tuna, Halibut, and Salmon. I have been living in Mexico for several months and have been on a few 4-6hr charters in the bay. I say that to give perspective that we have been around a few fish, and I know how a charter should be run and understand the methods some captains do to cut corners. My brother was in town and wanted to land a Marlin. I did my research and the boat and crew of My Marlin seemed the most capable from what I could gather (mostly from their tournament success). I was specific in our request to target Marlin and the charter was booked for 10 hours to be in the Corbetena area. My correspondence on email was with Danny. Day of the Charter – 11/7/2021 Local catch reports have been very favorable for Marlin, Sailfish, and Mahi Mahi. Our experience “My Marlin” with PV Sportfishing: - Captain was Late for pickup at La Cruz. - Captain never introduced himself. (I still don’t know his name) - It was not the captain and crew booked. It was not Captain Steve Torres (The mate was nice but he had never caught a marlin on that boat) - Never gave any sort of briefing or safety talk. I am not some woke sis but when you’re going 36 miles offshore its unacceptable to not show your customers the basic safety equipment and where it’s stored. i.e. lifejackets. - Booked for 10hours to go to Corbetena and the captain kept us near Las Marietas Islands all day. That’s about halfway to where we discussed targeting Marlin. (I am not saying there are not Marlin closer to shore, but that’s not where we paid to fish) - Cruised at 6kts all day. Didn’t matter if we were getting to the fishing grounds or lines in the water, it was 6 kts. The 28’ Bertram is capable of comfortably cruising at more than 4x that. They put lines in the water less than an hour into the charter when we were in the middle of the bay. - The captain controlled the music and routed Mexican music to the flybridge from the cabin and lower deck where we were. At the start the trip the crew played country music down in the cabin but a couple hours in turned off the cabin speakers and played their music up top. Results: 4 bites all day. 3 skipjacks and an adolescent Mahi Mahi. Summary: My impression walking away is this company goes hard in the tournaments and then has an alternate crew run a cash grab for tourists. This captain’s goal was to conserve fuel, leave late, and get back early, couldn’t care less if you land a fish. We were very disappointed and I would NOT RECOMMEND.

This review is embarrassingly late on my part. We charted the 32’ Luhrs with PV sports fishing in December of 2020, just my wife and I. Though it was during Covid and not many boats headed out that day, we were determined to bring back fish. We charted our boat for 10 hours and our crew used every minute of that, and then some to make sure we found fish. We headed out over 40 miles and finally came across a Dead Sea lion in the middle of nowhere. Our crew capitalized on this opportunity and immediately hooked up on a 50+ lb Dorado. One in the ice chest! Throughout our several passes on this carcass we hooked up on two more dorados and landed them as well, 12+ lbs and 35+lbs. Dorado is my favorite fish to catch and we could not have had a better time. Our crew was outstanding, always working different lures to Change look. The boat was maintained perfectly and we could not have had a better crew and boat. While making my reservations, Damon was sure to answer all of my questions, making our over all trip one of my best ever. To close, we were one of the only boats to bring fish in that day. I HIGHLY recommend PV Sportsfishing whenever you visit Puerto Vallarta. As a matter of fact, we just booked another trip with them in November 2021. Happy fishing!!
