Chef Mavi is the absolute best ever! I am a total fan. After selecting from a menu of recipes she took us through Puerto Vallarta to purchase ingredients. We went to a half a dozen different stores for fish (I recommend the seafood options from her menu and since you are in Puerto Vallarta…) and meat and spices and fruit/vegetables and dairy and Masa! It was so great to ask questions and learn about the food world around us. I love being able to ask questions! I felt so much more connected to Puerto Vallarta after the shopping, She also throws in information on Mexican history and a little tour of a church. It was lovely. After shopping she invited us into her wonderful home and we chopped and cooked and ate the very best food I have tasted in Puerto Vallarta. I can’t say enough about what a wonderful experience it was to spend the day with Mavi and her husband Kirk. When we come back to PV we will do it again! Or maybe she will let me know when she is in California! Thank you Mavi!

We cannot say enough good things about our experience with Mavi Graf’s Arte Culinario experience!

Prior to meeting Mavi we corresponded by email and selected our menu (we choose two appetizers and a main for lunch) from a 3 page menu options list she had sent us. We arrived at Marina Vallarta by Uber at just after 10:00 AM. Mavi, the delightful, kind and charming Mexican chef who met us, personally took my partner and I shopping to six local places where one can buy delicious and fresh ingredients: like seafood, meat, fruits, vegetables, tacos and wine. We got to taste a few local specialties along the way. The fresh fruit in particular looked amazing (pineapple, guavas, avocados, and freshly picked limes)! Each stop of the food tour, we picked up a few things that compared to Toronto prices seemed ridiculously low. Mavi educated us in a gentle and fun manner about Mexican food, wine and culture. Bonus! I learned to select the perfect avocado in the vegetable shop aside from gaining insight into many other food, tequila and wine tips! Mavi is well travelled, well read and very personable.

After shopping we drove back to her home (which is warm, light filled and has a well equipped kitchen), where we met her charming husband, son and her cooking assistant. Then Mavi instructed us in making a fabulous Margarita and a guacamole appetizer. After cocktails and our snack, we focused on preparing a delicious and memorable meal. I got to be her sous chef, and learned so many inspired cooking techniques from a true master.

As if that weren’t enough, along the way of sharing food and life experiences, we formed a special connection with this woman and her husband, Kirk. They treated us like family. They got a special bottle of wine for us, they talked to us about their hopes, their dreams; the conversation was rich, detailed and unforgettable.

We spent a wonderful 7 hours together in total! My partner wept at the end when we left them - who could have imagined such a thing? I really could not get over the feeling that we were family who had been invited for a special dinner party, just the four of us. It was a brilliant day, a brilliant experience and certainly the highlight of any of our trips here. Thank you very much Mavi we will definitely be back!

I would highly recommend this experience to anyone who wants to experience a culinary high. Mavi and her sou chef were amazing in the kitchen. My husband and I had an amazing time learning not only about what we were preparing, but in addition learning about all the special herbs and plants used in mexican cooking. Mavi is one outstanding teacher and great chef. And, to top all this experience we were treated as friends and guests and dined with Chef Mavi and her dear Hubby!! what a deal!!!

I’ve been visiting Puerto Vallarta for 14 + years and have experienced many different activities, but if you want the BEST experience, that you will forever talk about, and replicate, it’s taking an authentic Mexican cooking lesson with Chef Mavi.

We immediately hit it off. We first went shopping to the fish market, where I experienced learning about so many different kinds of fish. We then went to the vegetable market where I saw radishes the size of softballs! From there we went to where they make tortillas! I will never eat a packaged tortilla again. I sampled one right off the press – literally! From there we went to Pitillal Centro, where I experienced the most incredible spice market ever, and I have been to many.

After shopping for all of our delicious food, we went back to Chef Mavi’s beautiful condominium to cook! With her sous chef at her side and me (Sous Chef #2) we prepared the menu I chose from a list of many different choices.

Preparing the authentic Mexican salsa with true guacamole (no tomatoes) to a delicious shrimp cocktail made with scratch shrimp stock, that I have made at home, was a total delight. I chose the hibiscus enchiladas, they were mouthwatering, stuffed poblanos, a foodies joy, and then we prepared a ginger tart with jackfruit. (Something I have seen in grocery stores – Chicago -but never purchased.)

The wine flowed, the conversation never stopped, and I was completely in awe of this delicious food we cooked and ate together. Chef Mavi also taught me how to style the plates for the presentation. I have made a friend for life. Even if you’ve never held a knife, or chopped an avocado, this experience is something you cannot miss!

Cooking with Mavi has become a yearly tradition when we visit PV. We enjoy visiting the markets with Mavi and learning about the local ingredients and flavors. The real treat begins when we arrive back at Mavi's home and begin cooking in the kitchen. The dishes we make together are always delicious and her plate presentations are spectacular and the conversations are always fun. When you are cooking in the kitchen with Mavi, you truly feel like family.
When visiting PV and looking for something fun and delicious to do, I highly recommend taking a cooking class with Mavi.

Amazing class. What a wonderful view into local cuisine and markets from a woman passionate about food. I surprised my partner with this class as part of our anniversary and he and I were both amazed. Chef Mavi shows you her favorite locations around PV to shop for ingredients and then welcomes you into her gorgeous home to learn how to make amazing food and feel connected to this beautiful place away from tourists. We cannot wait to come back and book again!

Our love for Mexico, the people, food captured our hearts after a day at Mavi’s cooking class. Mavi is an exceptional cook with a bright personality. Our day started out at the market where she explained on how and where to buy seafood, meat, fresh produce and spices. After we pick up our food we went to her house where we made our modern Mexican dishes. Mavi offers classes in traditional Mexican cooking as well as modern, with a twist to your favorite dishes. We were offered wine pairing with each dish which was an added treat. The atmosphere was lively, personable, filled with laughter. Her husband was there offering his love for Mexico, family and his wife. My husband hit it off with him when he found out he born and raised in Ohio near my husband’s father. We went home with a to go bag of food to enjoy for lunch the next day. The day of cooking was the highlight of our trip while in Puerto Vallarta. We almost forgot about the world of COVID while we were enjoying what seemed like the good ole days.

I took this cooking class with a friend while vacationing in PV and it was a truly unique experience and a highlight of our trip! There is no better way to experience the culture and food here than spending a day with Chef Mavi! We selected one of her many delicious menus to prepare and she took us around to local markets to shop for ingredients. She educated us on the area and food we were preparing throughout the day. Then we were welcomed into her home to prepare the meal which added an additional local touch. I highly recommend this experience for your trip, it truly is one of a kind!

We had the best day with Mavi. It was a thoroughly marvelous experience . The day started by visiting several unique markets that allowed us to buy the freshest vegetables, seafood and pork for our menu. These were hidden gems in the city of which we had only been to one previously. At stop at Pitilial to a secret spice shop was an education in itself. She showed us the spices that are the basis of many wonderful Mexican dishes. We sampled a fermented corn drink from a vendor who has occupied the same corner for the past 37 years. We also learned where to get the best churros. Her kitchen was set up to accommodate meal preparation and to teach us to be better cooks. What I enjoyed the most was her conversation and knowledge of food and Mexico. The final meal was like going to a 5 star restaurant. We plan on going back to learn more from her.
